Apologies to 'ol Gord, boredom made me do it...

The legend lives on from the Sawridge on down from the big swamp they call Champion City

The city it’s said never gives up its dead when the gales of October turn gloomy

With a load of #1 picks at least 3 times more than most other teams could ever hope for

But all the other picks sink in the 'skeg like bricks when the gales of October come early

The team was the pride of the hype machine blind coming back from behind in 3rd periods

As hype-machines go it was bigger than most saying “a crew and good captain well-seasoned”

Concluding broken dreams against a coupla midwest teams they packed up and went back to the swampland

And later that night against the Rangers without a fight could it be cold reality come stealing

An outdoor game in the swampland they reigned and all was back to false glory

Every player knew and the captain did too, they were back in an arrogant flurry

But 4 more games and the parade had to wait, they were searching in vain for answers

They said the right things and they thought they should be great, in the eye of a media crapstorm

In Seattle they won and the coach came in saying fellas I’d like to blow ya

But the very next day in his pretentious way he said fellas it’s been good to know ya

The captain called in he’s gotta coach coming in and paraded around all spoiled

But later no spark as they fell to the Sharks came the wreck of the Edmonton Oilers

Does anyone know how reality goes when you think you’ll be okay in Florida

The hype machine fades disillusioned with rage and the playoffs seem like a dream now

They might find a goalie they might play D their stars might wake up to help out

But all that remains is the overpaid names and the losses maybe bad trades at discounts

In a musty new arena in the swamp they pray in the Rogers Place cavernous eyesore

But the jerseys they fly until at least 19 times for each man on the Edmonton Oilers

The legend lives on from the Sawridge on down of the big swamp they call Champion City

The greasy owner it is said wants everyone dead when the winds of the season come early

Awesome.  I found myself reading it to the tune.  The fickle media has turned and burned.  Now the brillian insiders are calling for heads and flushing the season (in their minds).  Why did we fire that coach again?

Had to edit the 3rd verse. How could I say "pride" when "parade" was right there!!

Felt like the NHL was doing a lot of good things several years ago but they are descending back into joke status amongst the major professional sports.

If a player does something serious enough to warrant his contract being voided how in the hell can he be free to sign for another team only months later? Just a brutal look for the league.

I mean it's the OIlers so not surprised at all they would stoop to this level but it's more of a joke that the league allows this. Just no standard at all.

"Chicago released Perry in November following what was described as an 'alcohol-fueled incident' that included Blackhawks employees and corporate sponsors."

Yup that's probably a good reason to seek out mental health assistance.  A month and a half later, he is good to go.  And you are spot on saying that it's a joke that he can be terminated one month and then sign a similar contract.  EDM will justify and embrace him.

The funny thing is his 60 day window to file a grievance hasn't even concluded.  Well, that sure sounds familiar.

Well three things come to mind.

1: Kane now has a gambling casino partner

2: Maybe McLotto wants him to impress his fiancé

3: Holland is a complete moron

Kidding aside, not funny maybe to some but I agree with Cross16, this just shows the integrity of this league has no boundaries do what you want all is forgiven I cant imagine what or how the Hawks feel personally they must just think what a joke after assessing he violated the terms and agreements and had to waive him.

2 months isn't a long time to be in rehab.

For Corey's sake I do hope he finds his health and succumbs to his addictions whatever they may be.

13 game win streak.  Why would the Oilers want to disturb the locker room with Perry right now?  If it's not broken then fix it?

This is because they feel they are being pushed around, even though they get good calls from refs whenever somebody looks sideways at McD.

Perhaps they feel they can add a level of cheating they haven't had in the playoffs.

Or Nurse's sister needs a date.

Next practice Nurse turns up with a black eye.

The other thing I would add, and this is more about us than them, is we need a 13 game win streak to counter the records of the other Pacific division.  We were not as tragically bad as the Oilers prior to their win streak.  But without it, we can think about passing them or making up 6 points.

13 game win streak = 73 points in 59 games.

34-20-5 record

73 points = .618 points %

Closer to a normal playoff team.

A steady .618 points % for the remaining games = 101 points

Looking at that, there is almost zero chance of the 13 game win streak and/or a .618 points %.

Our current record is .511 so at that pace we end up with 84 points.

Nowhere near a playoff team.

Let's not kid ourselves in thinking we are getting the first scenario.

The good news for Oilers fans is that with the Globe and Mail reporting that five NHL players have to report to London to face charges, there will be five good players available that the Oilers can sign without giving up any assets!

Love.

Interesting if Dube is one of them? I hope its just for witnessing accounts only if so.

Imagine carrying a 3.2m bonus overage into next year for Connor Brown to have 0 goals and 4 assists in 45 games.

Was hilarious to see the praise he was getting during the Oilers heater.

I still think that's a team being held back by a terrible GM

Edmonton has been really poor in the scouting department for a long time and it's continued under Holland.

That's the reason they still have Gagner, Brown and Perry in their bottom six. 97 and 29 have covered a lot of blunders.

Holland took over in 2019. They've got 24pts out of players drafted by his management group.

Broberg 11pts in 79 games and Holloway 13pts in 78 games. Since 2019, Lavoie is the only player drafted outside of the first round to make the NHL. And he looks to be a bottom six player.

If I was an NHL prospect being interviewed by Edmonton, I would talk endlessly about all my addictions, crimes, and personality disorders.

That would elevate you up their draft board lol. They are the team of second chances.

Looks like the greasers added a couple new forwards https://www.nhl.com/news/topic/trade-coverage/adam-henrique-sam-carrick-traded-to-edmonton-by-anaheim

When will they ever learn adding a couple more forwards albeit 4th line players is not there problem.

They will barely see ice time with the Mclotto ball and Draisaddle playing most of every game.
