  1. I just did a draft lottery simulator. About 70% of the time we moved to 10 or 11 draft spot. Once in the whole time we got 1st...
  2. ya, I think he's priced ok... and if he was on the market could fetch a bit.... but I like him.
  3. then we don't have enough depth in the A. If he's doing Bennett things then he's not NHL. Bennett needed the A to get his timing right. We probably play Coronato for a few years then trade him like Benny. theyre sending a few to the A for a playoff run. He'll have guys to play with then.
  4. sounds like you're downplaying Weegar a bit. Maybe he's not worth his deal? What would he get on the open market?
  5. I don't think it's forgotten at all! I think we could be scarred by it lol, as some of us worry they'd fall into that again. I also wonder about the improvement of scouting. Conroy definitely has a philosophy, a slight shift in His approach. But I think there's improvement. Back then, it was by necessity and Sutter trades that got them there. I don't know how many of us expected it to go the same as it did at that time period. but you're definitely right, there is a place a team gets to before improvement. Sometimes it's signing a glimmer of hope in 2nd chance players with previous upside. Chances at college kids, or best goalies out of the NHL. Or guys with good KHL numbers yet to translate. That was a rough time.
  6. There is no way the NHL will ever go to an unweighted lotto. While we think tanking is a horrible way to go, there are going to be some poorly run clubs and teams that need to benefit the system. Calgary will never be a team that does that. Are they penalized for it? No. Because that is their choice. They choose to operate that way in hopes to gain extra revenue for a round of hockey or catch lightening in a bottle and then lose to them due to poor video on the goal that was in. That's just the way the Flames operate. we complain because the system doesn't work for us. Fact is, teams that are horrible need to get more draft picks to possibly draft better nhl players. It's how to build. More picks equate to younger players. i like what Conundrum said, what do you do when players decide not to play for your club? Calgary has never had that problem. Not a problem of them signing players at market value in UFA. Calgary needs to do a full gut of the team and start from scratch. With your proposed system you assume teams need to keep the studs and rebuild. Our studs left. There aren't any anymore.
  7. you are being hypocritical. Staying the course with Iginla, Kipper and Bouw, you'd even said it yourself changes needed to happen earlier.
  8. I don't think people see him as average. Sure his numbers are dropping, but that's also after only having 2 top4 D on the roster and one that is only in his second year or possibly being a top4 in Kylington. I wonder if Kylington is a top4 or a #5? I think he's lost the will to play in Calgary. But I don't know, just know the play has dropped after the team got further out of contention... could be other factors, but I think he's better than average... he's even better than good. that also depends on philosophy, as I think he's a product of a crap team in front of him, and its relative.
  9. ok. So trading Iginla when they should have traded him 3 years earlier is inorganic? Maybe teams shouldn't be allowed to trade anyone and only draft players organically? I don't see the difference. A team's player ages out, that's organic. A player starts to age but has value and your team is getting worse year by year, trade them and that's organic. Trade players away when there's no hope for a cup, that is organic... staying the course is horrible, and you know it. That is what the flames would have to do in order to be your version of organic.
  10. no, I don't assume anything like that at all. I'm all for the Flames getting a top pick. I'd hate if they were in last place and not get it because some team in 8th overall spot got it because their star is injured. Everyone does get to the bottom organically, there's a reason and it's because they are trading off all players to get as many picks as possible. Getting more picks helps to get more young players and hope they develop. Not dissimilar to the way the flames traded Lindholm, Tanev, Zadorov, Toffoli, and so on, and how they might do so next year as well. Some call it a retool, some a rebuild. We would love to trade more and get more picks.
  11. They have a lot of good young D, could be a good forward and goalie they need. They are IF Calgary retains to make it work for a team that really needs him.
  12. I don't think they're being punished. I actually think teams are punished by having to drop selections when other teams win the lotto. The bottom ones are ones that need the help. Detroit, to me, is on the up and they've had their chance at those top5 picks...
  13. Met mine on Bumble! 🤣 I got lucky... I do wonder about the draft lotto if it's fixed? I mean, Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, Edmonton... I think the Rangers even won it... Jersey. I dunno. Tough call. i still think they should just throw 16 loser balls in for the sharks, then 15 for the Hawks, then 14 to the next... They can keep pulling balls, then if repeat balls come out, it goes to the order of the next round? It would be a true lottery... you get two sharks in a row, they get the spot in round one and two. And keep going... once a team is out of balls it diverts to their standing in subsequent rounds... no weighted balls. No weird math equations... the Lotto would then span nearly all seven rounds if the balls come out in differing orders. Just for the teams that don't make the playoffs.
  14. im all about being as down as possible because opposites happen for me. I lost the lottery tonight!!! I lost the lottery!!! only $70M
  15. my bet is, we win last game, we stay in 9th, but tied with NJD and they win the lotto! 🤣
  16. I didn't catch who wins the tie breaker. Are the Flames guaranteed the 9th place odds in the lotto? Or can they leap NJD still?
  17. tough call, it looks like he's done a lot to try and do better, which I find admirable. how many of us grew up saying,"that's so ---?" Or used the "N" word. We do learn from those if we are able to understand that sometimes these things hurt. So, I'd do a whole bunch of research on whether he's done what it takes to make up for it. So far from that article it feels like he's moving in the right direction...
  18. I saw an IG reel where a gardener wore a piece on their leg that looks like a brace, but when bending over in the garden, you can use it to sit on it.
  19. Is it RW or ROW that determines position? If we tie NJ and do they have the tie breaker?

    Goaltending

My only guess is that our Goalie scouts seem to like him? We've done decently with scouting international goalies lately. I wouldn't say Big Save Dave is a grand slam, but it was a pretty good hit. And the LA insider says he's quite impressed with his play this year. So, maybe it's not about numbers so much as it is about mechanics? The LA guy talked about how good Rittich's mechanics can be, and that when he plays within them he can play well. He also mentioned that when shooters wind up he used to kind of start further away and start to kind of back into his net to give a split second longer to react, and that he has gotten back to that... I heard this guy speak about 2-3 weeks ago on Flames Talk with Pat...... I do think they've done a bit better, so we will see.
  21. Just playing along with suggestions, I don't think Flames want him out, and maybe happy with him and Weegar to mentor and be the beacon of attitude growth in CalgaryZ so gotta weigh that into it. only a year ago we heard players want to leave but then here we are shipping everyone out and then pissing on them because they don't want to be in Calgary... I get it's fanaticism, but then we gotta expect a loyalty spectrum, if we can't be loyal, how can we expect them to? I get this is a problem I have. I want a really good team and while the flames have had good seasons, I wanted more... so it's a catch for me
  22. I was thinking more that Andersson is the value, and Flames would have to add and probably retain on some salary? Maybe not, but thinking maybe it's Mangiapane added with retained, and hope they think the adds push them up.
  23. I wonder, I know you've said on a few occasions, the Flames tend toward the WHL? Maybe... or maybe it's more the W over the Knights, as you seem to mention them a lot and the Flames might not draft them often enough.
