  1. Very same feeling as when the Flames hired Darryl Sutter the second time. Go with what worked ages ago.
  2. Weegar to OTT for the 7th overall in that case. Giordano peaked the wrong time the rest of our core peaked. By the time the rest of the core peaked, Giordano was on his way down. Let's not make the same mistake twice.
  3. I think the Flames should be drafting one of Dickinson, Silayev, Buium, or Catton. And the choice won't be the Flames to make. It's whoever of these four falls to #9.
  4. Well, worse case is we get the right player but he trends Sam Bennett.
  5. But it's hard to trade for a young elite D. Especially if you are talking about Makar/Heiskanen level. It requires we give back an elite player in return and we don't have those, let alone have those in excess. Byram Bowen was traded but he struggled with post-concussion problems and he's only 22. He might be retired from the NHL by 26. Seth Jones was traded a couple of times. Perhaps overrated from the beginning. He plays like a 3/4/5 type D being paid $9.5-mil. Hanifin types get moved all the time but they are not the elite variety. They are good complementary types. When is the last time a young elite D was moved? I agree we need the next Mark Giordano. Norris-level D. Leader. Captain. They are hard to find from trade. Need to draft them.
  6. We need to come out of this retool with minimum one #1 Center and one #1 D. If it takes 3 years in the basement, then do it. Whatever it takes.
  7. Good. Don't sign anyone is my preference. Whether we sign or not, the Flames aren't expected to be a playoff team next season. Better to have assets to sell at the TDL.
  8. Agree, MTL has enough high end D prospects that they shouldn't go with a D again here. Taking Iginla is a flashy move and MTL has not been afraid of flashy moves in recent years. I hope this happens so the Flames don't ever have to wonder "what if" since the Flames never had the opportunity to pick Tij at 9. This really is the meat of the order as far as the Flames are concerned. Assuming CBJ and MTL take Forwards, this means Parekh, Dickinson, Buium, and Silayev are expected to still be available here. And so, assuming Parekh is gone because of RHS, then the Flames have a choice between one of Dickinson, Buium, and Silayev. Worst case is all the D are gone and Catton falls and the Flames take Catton.
  9. It's also okay to spend a lot at the top if the top was one #1 C, one #1 D, and one #1G. Spread the elite around. But spending all money on two C and two RW... then what about D? and G? Team is off balance.
  10. I like these results, https://thehockeynews.com/news/nhl-sour-rankings-mock-drafting-dream-picks-for-every-non-playoff-team My own comments, SJS - Celebrini - no brainer CHI - Demidov - makes sense but maybe they go with Levshunov and throw the whole draft out of whack. ANA - Levshunov - makes sense... Traded away RHS RD Drysdale... They get one back here. Plus, ANA is stacked with C and Wingers. They need the D to start coming along. CBJ - Catton - CBJ and MTL need everything. Can argue Lindstrom and Catton go next in no particular order. Maybe one of them takes Dickinson MTL - Lindstrom - hard to pass on Lindstrom here. But if CBJ takes Lindstrom then MTL should take Dickinson. MTL has drafted a lot of RHS RD in the past few drafts so it's time to take a LHS LD SLC - Parekh - I feel Salt Lake will take a RHS RD since they showed interest in Rasmus Andersson at TDL. Parekh lands here. OTT - Yakemchuk - reaches for RHS RD because the whole world knows they want/need RHS RD. I would be surprised if they don't draft either Parekh or Yakemchuk SEA - Silayev - Kraken has need for D so either Silayev or Buium goes here. CGY - Buium - any mock draft where the Flames end up with Buium, I'm happy about. If Buium is gone by 9, then the Flames should take Silayev. If only Yakemchuk is left on the board, then this is where the Flames should consider Tij. Note: Dickinson falls in the draft. The more I see/read, the more he feels like the next Hanifin. I'm okay to go with Buium (Quinn Hughes comparable) and Silayev for that rare 6'-7" size.
  11. They need G. BT needs to get on the phone with Conroy for Markstrom.
  12. And don't forget 2026 is McKenna's draft year. What a convenient time to have no one who can play at the NHL level for that draft year. Let's have a multi-year plan for once.
  13. If I had it my way, then I wouldn't extend Sharongovich. Nor Kuzmenko and Mangiapane. I think that's 3 pieces for next year's TDL that can be moved for at least one 1st round pick and a couple 2nds. I feel the Flames will still only be in year two of a 3/4 years re-tool. Just keep getting younger.
  14. Just reading some redraft opinions online.
  15. Ya again, "tanking doesn't work" is not the same as "attempt to tank". We shouldn't reward any attempt to tank. I don't think the Flames went all out tank this TDL. And thus, no top pick unless they win the lotto.
