Oh right 3rd.  So we get back a 3rd from Chicago.  How ironic.

But I guess that's a net win in the end then.  We gained Zadorov's services for two years and a 5th rounder.

It is Canucks 3rd Rounder in 2026

and Chi 5th rounder in 2024.

We paid a 3rd for him and most felt that we overpaid for him.

Sometimes I wonder if the crowd fell in love with the person or the player.  The person was always good for a quote and loved being here, I feel the love for the person overlooked his warts as a player.

That a horrible return, Conroy aught to have wait this mouth longer…

thats 2 blown trades now for Conroy he’s not inspiring much faith and confidence…

the only way this makes any sense is like VCR did, he’s clearing cap room to manage larger trades…maybe there is something to the NYI deal? If that’s the case maybe they view Romanov as a upgrade to Zaddy

IDK at the moment this trade is horrible but before being too judgmental I’m gonna wait and see if this is a move to facilitate a larger better deal…it kinda feels like it at the moment I can see moving 1 d to drive the price up on the other two…now there is one less D so maybe a team panics now? Also it dose clear some cap room to take on a bad contract to make other deals so…a lateral gain on zaddy could make sense and work out…

my major concerns at the moment are:

1. this move is to make room to resign Lindholm and other UFA’s which in effect he just weakened the team

2. and more concerning…Conroy is being take for a sucker and is making panic deals to just get anything..

I think we will need to wait and see for now before calling this one

The Flames didn’t retain. That’s being overlooked here.

Thats why the return is what it is.

You can only retain on three contracts, the Flames have four UFA’s….

One return was always gonna be limited because there would be no retention, which happens to be the Z trade.

Zadorov was basically our only heavy weight tough guy.  I still believe in deterrent roles and hopefully our players don't start taking cheap shots.

Heavyweight maybe, tough guy? Not really. His hits are going to be missed more than any fighting he has done.

I just checked on cap friendly…this give Cgy around 5.1 in cap space…that kinda has me thinking…

1. extend and trade for Hanifin

2. could very well have that 5.1 grow for more moves after trading Hanifin on an extension…

3. retain or take on bad contracts to facilitate trades

I really loved Bid Z punishing hits and he has a pretty good wrist shot. And when he is on, he also plays a pretty solid D game. Though I think his game also slipped after his trade request. So maybe it was the right time to trade him, who know's.

And yeah most 3rd pairing guys don't get you more than a 3rd. But overall Zadorov's play improved in his time here and a big, physical D-man would be in demand for playoff teams, that want to go deep. That's why I thought we should get at least a 2nd, especially from a division rival.

And that the 3rd is 3 drafts from now is also not helping us anytime soon, unless we use it in another trade.

And Van moved out Beauvilier for Z.lol

Agree with Sak, liked the person. Bottom pairing, whatever. Picks and no cap back is fine.

Obviously no one wanted to give more than that. Didn't take another problem back is perfect.

Everyone wants the world, this is reality, sorry about the crash landing.lol

I am guessing VAN offered Beauvillier + a 3rd and we said no.  It's a good sign that we don't want ready bodies.  Take the picks.  Take the cap space.

I agree. It was smart not to retain here. Better to hold that card for the other assets that can garner more of a turn.

I don’t love the deal because I think they should have waited and I think they get more closer to the deadline or get picks not so get down the road. So I don’t like the deal from that perspective. Feels rushed.

He potentially became a thorn and a distraction. Wasn't happy with his icetime...self-admitted "I speak my mind"...maybe he just had to go.

I don’t think it would have made a difference, now or at the TDL.

Really?

Montreal retained 50% of his $3.5M salary, so retaining only $1.75M netted them this return - at the trade deadline.

Don’t fool yourself. This is an underwhelming return for a player that would’ve generated a lot of interest at the trade deadline.

Boooooooooo!
