  1. I don't think Zary gets one without being packaged with another first, I really don't see the possibilities at all. Really the only trade possible for this organization in the last 10 years to acquire a top 10 pick was Tkachuk either at the end of the 2019 or 2020 seasons.

Bolded are important. I do think they want him, but not at the desperation stage people think. They moved on, whether it is temporary or not remains to be seen.
  3. Don't forget Couturier. A good example because the Flyers did as good as any team I can remember in dumping Richards and Carter and getting Schenn, Simmonds, Voracek and Couturier, but those moves led to one series win with that group and rotating between making and missing the playoffs. They also did well when they moved Schenn, but they continue being mediocre meanwhile Richards, Carter and Schenn all wound up getting rings.
  4. Well I think Dreger hinted the 1st wasn't on the table and if it was it could've got the Flames to sign off. Hard to say what is what as a lot of different versions out there, but I'm led to believe Holtz was the only enticing part of the offer. 8 months ago the guy was unmovable, trade values don't alter that fast for older guys.
  5. It only makes sense if you feel it is a deep draft with little separation from 10-60, from most accounts there is a significant drop off, but I still don't see how a 34 year old goalie who in a bounce back year is still only .909 is going to get a greater return than any goalie traded over the last 10 years (excluding Raanta because of the Stepan factor). I'm pessimistic about the trade market because I look and see what else is happening, I've also challenged many times to the scorched earth crowd how many teams have added significant parts to their teams eventual championship through trades. Rebuild crowd wants pain, part of that pain is watching the good players go for minimal returns.
  6. For those thinking acquiring top 15 picks are easy. Recent history for teams knowingly (pick # had been determined) traded top 15 picks in the last 10 years. 2023- None. 2022 - #6 for Debrincat (Debrincat coming off a 41 goal season) and #13 went twice from the Islanders for Romanov and to the Hawks for Dach (Romanov was 22 and Dach was 21 and only 3 years removed from being #3 overall). 2021 3 were traded #9 for OEL and Garland, but important to note Arizona took on several of Vancouver's bad contracts. #12 went for Seth Jones, #32 went back the other way, and #15 went from Philly to Buffalo for Ristolainen. 2020 #15 for Kapanen. 2019-none. 2018-none. 2017-#7 for Stepan and Raanta. 2016-none. 2015-#13 to Boston for Lucic, and #15 for Hamilton. 2014-none. The only goalie there was Raanta and he went along with a 27 year old C, Raanta was 28 but coming off years backing up where he had really strong numbers. So I see no comparable to Markstrom. Andersson would be older than Jones and Ristolainen were when they were traded by a year, a case can be made that because Risto got #15 that Andersson should as well. I put it in the its possible but unlikely I don't see the type of bidding wars people on here expect, if your willing to move a top 10 pick you can do better than Andersson IMO. And if you want to move a first for a goalie at the draft its probably Saros or bust.
  7. I guess that Brunette guy knows what he's doing. The type of team you want to avoid in the first round if your a top seed, like Colorado in 2019, of course only 4 back of Winnipeg for the 3rd spot in the Central. And Winnipeg seems to be trying to imitate their previous season. On a side Mark Jankowski has probably had his best stretch of hockey in his career with 10 points in his last 9.
  8. I didn't say it didn't exist, just I haven't seen it. Just like I haven't seen a great return for a mid 30's goalie in the past few years.
  9. No way, I hate the creme eggs. Cadbury Mini Eggs and nothing else.
  10. I don't know if it was thought to be in the 20's New Jersey they would've needed to play exceptional hockey to climb that many teams. Right now I'm having an easier time believing my kids stories about the Easter bunny existing than I do about grown ups who believe a 34 year old goalie, not far removed from being one of the worst starters in the league, will get the greatest return for anyone at that position in the last 20 years. I won't dispute my kids because it's fun for them, I will dispute Markstrom because its annoying and when the eventual return is underwhelming the complaining is even worse.
  11. I'm of the belief that if NJ's 2024 1st was on the table a month ago then Markstrom would be a Devil now. If it wasn't on the table then it won't be at the draft. People need to re-evaluate their initial disappointments with most of the trades that have happened in the last year and shelter their expectations for a Markstrom return.
  12. Keith and Jarome are two different players, Jarome was a first ballot hall of famer and Keith will always be hall of very good. But still the difference in the two countries. In Calgary Jarome has the legacy of the face of the franchise, almost every record, captain, the shift, etc., Tij will be compared against that because that's what people do. Add in the rest of Canada and you get the 2 gold medals, and trailblazer for minorities, while down in the states he's far from a household name. Matthew and Brady only have to live up to the reputation of all-star power forward, but even in their home town their dad is way down the list of sports legends, down the list even as far as Blues are concerned, Jarome is in the top 2 for Calgary.
  13. I have heard from reliable people who've communicated with people in the Flames that have stated the Iginla family's #1 preference is the Flames don't draft Tij, not a demand but considering Jarome get more involved with the team in the next little bit I don't think he'll offer any persuasion to draft him. Conroy does like Tij as a player though and not just because he's known him his whole life, but I think it will need to be a situation where the Flames feel he is the absolute best available and Tij himself really wants to be a Flame.
  14. I'm a big fan of name mixing but I assume you mean Erik Karlsson, but I put that rumour in the bs pile I don't think Karlsson is waiving his NMC to go back to Canada.
