Comments from Ruzie:

“Honestly, it sucks, right?” Ruzicka said. “I can’t help the team, can’t do anything, so I’m honestly just trying to get in the lineup and help the team as much as I can” (from ‘Daniel Austin: Flames’ Adam Ruzicka waiting for another opportunity’, Calgary Sun 3/12/23).

Meanwhile, this other kid gets promoted to 1st line and 1st unit PP....

Vrana for a 7th rder might have been fun. Lighting it up in St Loo. But Sutter would pressbox him for a missed D assignment...

Why get a skating forward when you can get Nick Ritchie to come in to sit?

I think one of the issues is the extra year of his contract.

But we are in a situation where we need to only keep the best players.

Trying out a guy for a couple of months makes sense and possibly trading him depending on the value.

What is really troubling is

Dube 2.3 Million 1 goal in 12 games

Tyler Toffoli 4.2 1 goal in 7 games

Nazem kadri 7.0 Million 0 goals in 11 games

Andrew Maginpane 5.8 Million 0 goals in 10 games

Just shy of 20 Million dollars and 2 goals between them.

In those 11 games, what changes have been implemented?

But to look at the player value you have to be consistent in the stats, not cherry pick them.

Toffoli - 7 points in 11 games

Kadri - 8 points in 11

Even with those points, I would be thinking that it's long overdue for major changes.

Huberdeau played for 2 games on LW, but prior was 34 games on RW.

Huberdeau-Kadri has not played tight together.

Mangiapane looks stale or not able to convert.

February showed something was wrong.

The Philly, Vegas, COL and BOS losses should have been a signal that something was wrong.

7 games ago we were close to a playoff spot but didn't react.

Now we are hanging on by a thread and need to win every game.

Lineup alert.....

#FlamesNHL_Team_2022_Flames.png tonight vs. Dallas:

Mangiapane-Lindholm-Toffoli

Huberdeau-Backlund-Coleman

Dube-Kadri-Duehr

Ritchie-Ruzicka-Lewis

Weegar-Andersson

Hanifin-Tanev

Zadorov-Stecher

Hard to really complain too much about a decision that should have been made when the odd of making the playoff were >50%.  I do think that Coleman would be better with Kadri and Dube with Huberdeau, but that's minor.  The Pelletier thing is getting on my nerves though.  Oh well, he won't be injured when he goes back to the Wranglers after the Flames season is done.

Well, let us hope our intuition was correct in removing Lucic. Hate to see a guy like this fall as he appears to be a locker room favorite. However, the game has passed him by the fact he was constantly put in the line-up, and having to take the social media and board thrashing has been weighing on his nerves as well. If we get on a heater than maybe we can just let him walk away with some form of dignity for everyone involved.

If you look at the amount of times his line is on for a goal against, you probably would wonder why they waited.  He's not necessarily bad, but his lack of movement and times he gives the puck away is a bad thing.  The design of the line is the bigger issue to me; most teams have gone with a faster type.  Duehr is a good type to have.  No issue with Ruzie playing C there.  It's forcing them to just grind out plays that's the bigger issue.  Put Pelletier or Dube or Mangiapane there and you have a modern line.  One you don't worry about rolling.

We should start thinking about next season and Lucic and Lewis shouldn't be on the team next season.  Both should retire or move on somewhere else.

And so, just sit them both for the rest of the season.  Go with a 4th line Pelletier - Ruzicka - Duehr.  Give them the experience instead.

Pelts-Kadri-Dube could be an adventure.

Stupid 10:30 starts that actually start a 10:45. Of course I'd have to stream rather than PVR for tomorrow.

Thanks SN.

So, kick our Duehr for Pelletier.

Which is odd, since Duehr only played one shift with Kadri.

Good old SN, wanting to showcase EDM on all channels.

Against a basement team.

Too funny.

Not really.

I don't understand why Lucic and Lewis can't both sit out the same game.

Has it ever happened this season?

I would have tried Pelletier - Ruzicka - Deuhr for the 4th line.

Heck, you could sit just one of them and still have a better line.

But, hey we seem to always win with Lucic in.

Except for all the losses he plays in.

Maybe it's not crazy.

When Lucic sits, he comes back and we get a string of wins.

We win against the Ducks, so he must be the reason.

do you mean 5th line?

I referred to it as the 4th line because if they were ever played, they would get that many minutes.

So, if you think about who is signed for next year and who we have available, let's look at this:

Mangiapane-Lindholm-Toffoli

Huberdeau-Backlund-Coleman

Dube-Kadri-Duehr

Pelletier-Ruzicka-Coronato

Weegar-Andersson

Kylington-Tanev

Hanifin-Zadorov

Gilbert

I wouldn't really go with these lines as such.  I would think you put Hubie on the top line.

Mangiapane back with Backlund.  Pending trades of course.

Hanifin out.

Backlund out.

Coleman out.

Trade chips and getting younger.

I wonder what the likelihood that Zary or anyone else in the system could be ready?

I doubt some of their skills tramslate but wondering if Schwindt or more so Pospisil can ever fill the 4th line the way they play? I doubt it.

who will we have to rid of to be compliant?
