Not a lot of change at practice today.  Same Bat time.  Same Bat channel.

Pelletier probably gets sent down after the Seattle game, to save cap space.

#Flames at practice Wednesday:

Dube-Lindholm-Toffoli

Lucic-Kadri-Huberdeau

Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman

Pelletier-Lewis-Duehr

Hanifin-Andersson

Zadorov-Weegar

Mackey-Stone

Tanev not practicing. Ruzicka and Ritchie skating as d-men.

I understand the reluctance to pull Lewis out, but I would be ok with putting Duehr in the press box for a game and have a 4th line of Pelts-Ruzie-Lewis.

That's an encouraging update

It's encouraging but at the same time, sounds like it's serious but he's going to tough it out.  At least not as bad as Pacioretty blowing out his achilles after having surgery on it.  Or like Josh Norris needs surgery again on same spot.  Both players coming back too early.

Markstrom  gets CHI again as the starter.

Yikes, keep the leash short.

Vladar starts in Seattle I assume.

Yeah tonight will play out the exact same as last game.  Might as well give them the 2 and take the 1 and save 3 hours.

I'm just messing around.  Markstrom can have a good game, but it's up to the team to score 4.

Can't keep trying to win game 3-2.

It's a 4 goal league, not a 3-2 league.

Markstrom still has a sub-900 SA%, but we could have had wins in games with the extra goal.

We are shooting about 30+ shots in almost every game, but are scoring little.

Yeah, it's tough when your goalie lets in 3 on 20 or so shots, but give him a lead to work with.

In general a stat like that isnt good anyway but when you factor in that usually 1 sometimes 2 of those 3 goals look stoppable then it gets tough to swallow. Sure Marky has been left out to dry with breakaways and such but its the "shoulda had it" ones people remember.

And sometimes it just comes down to make the next save.

Markstrom isn't alone in letting in the next one.

That has been the case for years.

Smith

Talbot

Elliott

What I notice about this team is that we always come back with the line that scored.

Regardless of circumstances for the goal.

Many, many teams do that, but we also seem to lose momentum immediately after a goal.

Instead of putting the foot to the floor, we come back with rolling 4.

We seem to be gun shy to shorten the bench.

Playing the lines that are pushing the right way.

Not the top 9, but whomever is pushing.

Vladar has been giving opportunities to seize the net and hasn't exactly run with it so I don't really get the constant complaining about the goaltending. I get the record is great but Columbus went to OT in part due to him. He's hasn't made this decision easy on the coaching staff.

The Flames don't have a number one right now so they are managing their goalies accordingly. Makes perfect sense to me.

I don't know that too many are complaining.  Just uneasy, which is fair.

Markstrom (last 12 games 12 starts) 5 wins, 5 losses, 1 OTL, 1 no decision

Vladar (last 12 games. 11 starts) 9 wins, 0 losses and 3 OTL.

Really it comes down to W's.  Who is giving you the best chance.  Who can steal a game.

So far neither goalie is stealing games.

  • 2 weeks later...

Also notice that only Pelletier and Gilbert assigned to Flames.

No Duehr.

I think that is more because they feel they need an extra D over an extra F.

With Ritchie back, there isn't really an extra roster spot for the 14th F.

I am sensing that Sutter has no faith in Mackey now, since they already have a 7th D-man.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. ET, Wednesday, February 8 in Detroit, MI, while riding a scooter on his way to dinner, Flames defenceman Rasmus Andersson was struck by a vehicle. Andersson was taken to local hospital for a full battery of tests before being released last night.

Ooof I guess it could've been worse.  Andersson is listed as day-to-day now.

3rd pair will probably only play 8 minutes.  It's the powerhouse Red Wings right, so...

Need Lucic playing 13 minutes again.

I laughed at the Oilers game which had almost as many "fights" as the Flames-Rags game.

Most of it was around Kane being a D-bag.
