Hamilton should happen.   Do some limits, like one player a year.   I dunno.   I feel it could work better than it is now.

How could it possibly be more unfair than shipping them all off to Edmonton to be slaughtered?

What about Nashville? Tennessee/Georgia/Kentucky/Mrs Sippy aren't exactly hockey talent hotbeds I tell you what. Or is this purely for selfish reasons? lol

I think a dichotomy and both...

I think JJ is saying, if more players come from the professional city town area, then the teams will create more development programs for kids and grow the sport that way...

though, the sport is a tough sell over football, baseball, or basketball, or other US sports.

tough.

What a bizarre hire.

Got experimental with Granato so as is typical with NHL decision making now they have to go "conservative".

NHL has probably the most bizarre hiring practices of the major pro sports leagues

Very same feeling as when the Flames hired Darryl Sutter the second time.  Go with what worked ages ago.

I personally think Sutter did amazingly well with what he had lol.   As a coach, that is.

But I'm equally bewildered by Ruff.

Still wonder if we have staff or players to poach from Buffalo.  Nothing really pops out for me other than Dahlin.

Maybe Power?   I was never a fan of him though.

Komarov?

amazingly i see very little that we need, other than their draft picks.

Trues.  Sutter squeezed so much out of so little.  Flames weren't ready for him.  He was the wrong hire at the wrong time.  But great coach.

Wow, so the Blackhawks hired an Indigenous women to work with them in bridging relationships between the team and local Indigenous groups to either change the logo or work with them in the multitudes of relationship building...

only someone in the organization made sexual passes on a consistent basis on business trips in hotels... the Indigenous women is suing them as they haven't lived up to their deal and for sexual harassment. There seems to be a culture of sexual advancements in the organization and the org maybe sweeping it under the rug? I read an article about it a day or two ago...

they will be relevant soon enough again. Winning org, winning lotto, getting a high 2nd...

Pavel Datsyuk, Shea Weber headline Hockey Hall of Fame's class of 2024 | TSN

Time for my annual complaints about the selections for the Hockey Hall of Fame.  I'll leave the women alone as I don't really remember them.  Datsyuk I have zero problems with, definitely deserves to be there.  Roenick I always felt was someone who eventually could, so I don't have any issues with now being the time.  Weber I don't like as a first ballot guy, yes injuries limited him quite a bit but not a whole lot of team success outside of international play, no Norris trophies, not a guy I'd say never to but not first year.  Poile, I support that decision, while he never won it all as a GM, his teams for the most part were always competitive which might be harder to do than build a champion.  Colin Campbell is one I really don't like, IMO a disgrace to the league that he is even still employed by them and just shows that the sport for another year will continue to operate as the old boys club.

I don't agree with everything that Tom Grossi says in this video, but he definitely makes some good points.

Ya that desk with Mark Messier... That was a budget desk.  So embarrassing.

Datsyuk is all that matters!! He just left Detroit after helping out in Dev Camp, and rumour has it that he stole all of the pucks. lol

So happy to have seen him and get some autographs with my boy after a pre-game skate. His autograph/photo op pranks are legend. Lots of stories of, "Absolutely NOT", waiting for the reaction, then, "Get over here, you can't take a joke"?

He's been nothing short of first class all the way.

We're all wondering if we hire him now or after the induction?

45-46yo 2C. lol I'm sure he could still pick everyone's pockets.

Shanahan during Datsyuk's rookie season: "He just smiles and nods all of the time. He has no idea what anyone is saying to him. But damn, he's a great player". lol

Datsyuk's status in the D is icon and legend. He lives up to it.

Can't wait to see the video reel at his induction. Dude's one-of-a-kind. The Gaudreau hit has now aged well.

What was really incredible for me, as a dad, was our 2nd Wings game together vs the Blues. I was informed during our first game, "Take him to the runway for pre-game skates man, it's allowed".

So we did. Had the prime spot. So my boy has his Datsyuk jersey on, and a Datsyuk pro photo hanging over with a sharpie.

He's 1st off of the ice and runs right down to the end of the tunnel. Your shoulders slump a bit more in disappointment for his hopes. He turns, and runs right back. He didn't even look at me, which was awesome, all about my kid. Personalized the pic, my boy agreed to turning around for a jersey sig and personalized the 3 in 13.

Quite the experience. Almost better, it seems like 1/4 of the arena saw it, and told their friends. He was "Little Datsyuk", and so many had to look at the autograph on his jersey and high 5 him. It was kinda surreal. Our seats weren't close to Detroit's bench. But somehow, everyone saw that interaction. Wings would score and EVERY-BlockchainING-BODY had to high 5 him. I can't yell that loud enough. What an experience.

Detroit has such a horrible rap. I've been there 100s of times. The people are just next-level kindness.

I cannot substantiate the bad rap at all.

Has anyone ever witnessed some sketchy-looking kid approaching an elderly beggar and say, "what do you need"? "I just need bus fare". Have him give her bus fare and $10 to make sure she's okay? Welcome to Detroit.

I went to the mtns a lot from Calgary. I always left with an overwhelming sense of real escape to nature.

Detroit, I always leave with an overwhelming sense of humanity. The same feelings, honestly.

Agree with the concept and also it is tough.  I grew up in Vermont (many decades ago...) playing pick-up basketball, baseball and football.  I didn't much like soccer, but that applies too, and why it is the world's sport... Only requirement was a ball, plus bat and glove for baseball, a hoop for basketball and a small yard for 2-3+ players.  You also had to be able to walk/run... it could be played indoors or out year-round in any temperatures.  Couldn't be more simple and more inexpensive.  Forgetting the fact that pro hockey requires you to be able to skate exceptionally well, you also need a maintained rink and a lot of equipment.  Although yes you could play street or roller hockey, the ice version is very expensive, orders of magnitude more than the other three.  Hockey will never be more than a third or fourth-level sport in the US  and most of the world because of it.  It was created in Canada for a reason and those reasons still stand, ie the weather and easy Winter access for all kids on backyard frozen rinks and ponds.

Off-topic, but I could expand on this relentlessly.

Don't take an uber or cab to the impressive museums district. Take the bus, it's a $1. Buy a day pass for $5. When you're done with the bus, offer your day pass up, or announce, "who wants it"?

There are lots of elderly, offer your seat and stand. 9/10 times, it will change your perspective. Poor people don't want to be looked upon as poor people. They want to be looked upon as people. When you do that, the results are magical.

I've been to lots of cities. And I mean lots. There is only one Detroit.

If I were camping through the Rockies and met some Germans (that never happened, lol) that told me they were going to Detroit, all I can really say is, it's going to be life-altering for your perspectives.

I'd recommend Detroit to anyone for a holiday. Your friends can laugh all they want.

One week and it's, "Holy Blockchain, Detroit is not at all like it's depicted". It's not even close. Massive amounts of things to do, venues, free stuff, fun beaches, great state hiking parks close enough. Near endless.

Visit me. I'll prove it.

I'm not going on the bus with you though, we'll walk, but I told you how to be, have your own experience. lol

This guy gets it. The D is a special place. Go bankrupt due to govt corruption, the rest of the country didn't give a flying Blockchain.

We'll remember that, and the D is coming back strong. Imagine living in a place with almost zero city services. Not cutting park lawns, old buildings crumbling onto your main roads. The residents did it. Gangs of roving dads racing around mowing parks for the kids, dealing with Satoshi Nakamoto your city is supposed to deal with in your free time for 0 dollars.

It was pretty surreal. Just an awesome, awesome city.

This guy gets it.

Anyone wondering why Jeff Marek lost his job; just read an article that he shared insider info regarding the order of the draft. The NHL were concerned whether he was using info for betting or general info. But the way it was shared, either way may not be aligned with how the NHL wants the info shared.

It is too bad, didn't mind him, but at the same time, it must be hard to toe the line of what and how to share.

I did like Jeff Marek but at the same time he's just an analyst. Not going to miss those guys either way.

But will add that firing him for a practice that many others do (ahem Bob Mckenzie) doesn't smell right.
