The big club has been getting killed in the dot lately. From what I understand Arnold is our best face-off man on Addy, but Knight is still a solid option (but not 100% sure, seeing as I can't find their FO% stats. I just hear a lot more about how Arnold is put out in a lot of important faceoffs). Similar numbers in the AHL by both, but Knight is a bit more of a shooter. Knight is a better option for a 4th line center. Arnold's game is more like Backlund's; defensively responsible. But this thread is about Poirier. We don't need him yet. He is going to be very good given some time to work on his complete game. As I see it, right now here is where he stands: Skating - check Goal scoring - check and re-check Gritty - check Bigger - tall but needs a few more pounds of muscle for the NHL; he is still very young Defensive game - work in progress, but he is a plus player now Maturity - can't comment, but he is so intense that his temper/playing style will get him involved in scrums Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

With all of Johnny's success i figured they would want to see what the other BC alumni could bring. Ad far as drafting Poirer everyone on this site gave a collective "who?" When his name was called but there was plenty of video for us to get excited about on YouTube especially when it comes to his blazing speed and hard nosed play. Is he the better pick over Hunter? Wrek Posted November 23, 2014 Report Share Posted November 23, 2014 Honestly I was just happy we didn't pick Shinkaruk just because he was a "hometown boy" and all I heard about was his attitude and not his play.I sure as heck didn't see Poirier getting picked but so far looks like a great pick to me, I hope he keeps up his strong play and makes it to the big leagues full time in a year or two. Unless they perform like Granlund or Jooris and force the team to keep them up. Reinhart got his chance. Ferland and Knight are getting some time. I think we will see Arnold and Poirier eventually. But they are both in their rookie seasons in the AHL so there is no rush. I think there is a decent chance Hanowski is the next forward called up. I don't think you mess with a good thing and when they get some players back I think Poirier moves down the list. His stride was unusual, but he still managed to get to top speed quickly. Imagine if they actually improve his skating. Byron's biggest asset is his heart. Not the most skilled guy, but you notice his skating and his hits. I am yet to see Poirier play in a pro game; was disappointed he wasn't ready for pre-season. I think we may see him sometime later in this season as a callup. It does not seem to matter who he plays with and is tearing it up in the AHL so.... Obviously the most dangerous player on the ice every time he's out there. If he wasn't a first year pro coming off a long injury, he would already be in Calgary. This is great news. Poirier is back strong from injury and back on track with his development. There's talks that maybe he should get a cup of coffee in the NHL for a few games before the season is over but i think there's no point because there's the chance he might put up a ton of points and then the pressure will be huge on him next season to score. I am not saying Sven won't one day play full time in the NHL nor am I saying that Bennett won't end up being an impact player in the NHL. What I am saying is Poirier fills the position we are IMO weakest. I watch him play and I see a player that will come in and be the winger we need for years to come. Some may not agree with me but I think him playing with a NHL center be it Monohan or a future Bennett will give him even more production. I think he could play his best hockey with a guy like Jooris. Poirier may even be Iginla 2.0 I know I know, but listen he is a very offensive gritty guy that has ( from what I have seen ) a faster game than Iggy did, I know some will get made at me for my next statement but I think Poirier has a more rounded game than Iggy at this age.
