Or does it lead to a guy that plays effective on the dot, such as Knight or Arnold? A whole year in Adirondack lighting up the league will give him a lot of confidence. That said, he should at least get a taste of the NHL before the end of this season. Dude, you have posted one line posts in about 20 different threads in the space of about 10 minutes. Do you have a points to this? Are you just wanting to up your post count so you can enter a stupid contest? If that's the only reason, then why don't you just stick to posting in the contest forum. I enjoy reading posts from Flames fans new and old, but you don't seem to be saying anything. I think we've got a real good handle on the Keegan Kanzig discusson, and it might be time to start talking about our first round picks. I'd actually hoped someone else would start this thread that was a bigger fan of Poirier. I'm sure those fans are out there (somewhere?), so please speak up. I have to start off by saying that we passed over Hunter Shinkaruk, generally ranked 12th overall, to pick Poirier with our 22nd pick (slated for the 2nd round). After witnessing the strength of Chara in the Stanley cup playoffs, we saw a huge shift towards larger players this draft, sending mid-sized players such as Shinkaruk significantly down from their original ranking. Nobody seemed to notice that Chara didn't actually win the cup, and that the playoff MVP was a smaller player by the name of Patrick Kane. That better suits a Hanowski/Knight/BVB. If our existing call-ups get sent back down at some point, you have to reward guys that stayed and put up decent numbers. The point of having a 4th line is to have the ability to roll 4 lines. In that scenario, we are talking 10 minutes a game without special teams time. We are just used to restricting minutes because McGrattan or Bollig can't be on the ice for too long. Most fans myself included were not happy with the pick. As of right Porier is producing more than Shinkaruk. Poirier was out with the shoulder injury and he has been able to step in and produce. Very excited to see what he will be able to do in Calgary when his chance comes. I thought he was gonna be the next call up but I guess that the larger sample size from Knight was more attractive. Shinkaruk has a attitude problem, if he didn't he could of been picked earlier, and we don't need that in our dressing room. I honestly wasnt impressed with his interview after he got passed up by us and it further proves my point that the flames chose right by picking Poirier. He was projected as a second rounder and we gave up our second first round pick in what is supposed to be one of the deepest drafts in recent history. But so far it looks to have paid off.
