That worked for me as well Conundrumed! Thanks again for your help buddy. FF52 is definitely missed.

That's awesome. Like I said, my account is screwed. It doesn't work for me, just pure frustration. Thanks for letting me know, because that will not work for me.

I know I found the root of the problem, but can't resolve the problem.

Huge respect buddy, and don't worry, when the Bruins stomp the Leafs again, TDot will have no option but to cover the Flames in rd 2.;)

I live in ON. but travel in AB a lot and lived in Calgary for 18 yrs. My Leaf-loving friends and relatives have fully woken up to the Flames. Christmas was awesome for a change.lol

Anyone else see that tilt between Gabriel and Lucic? Gabriel was pretty good and got in a few hard blows. The dude has clearly worked on his balance, and those guys make for difficult fighters. Glad guys never figured that out when I was playing!

I have said it before.  This team is in their window to win now.  They are built, the pieces are in place, they should be trying to win a cup.  And if they aren't good enough that is a problem.  I will give the team another 30 or so games, but right now I think there are some SERIOUS flaws on this team that may require a complete rebuild.

I`ve been on this board so long that neither my start date nor any other data is accurate (there were server switches & other things as it seemed the NHL was trying to kill all these team specific boards). In every 1 of those years there have been fans calling for a total teardown.

There have been teams that succeeded by being bad for about 5-8 years but only 1 that I recall doing that deliberately (iwhen fans actually bought tickets again they denied ever deserting even though they almost lost their team while finishing high on the picking order). The others were just that bad.

The Sens tried the deliberate approach in the `90s & have 0 Cups. The Oilers only hit paydirt on 1 of 4 1st OA picks & by then had little to no supporting cast.

There is a very rare thing that the Jets managed to sell to a Canadian NHL base that saw them remain a respectable team that maintained throughout that they would build via draft & develop. It was a unique circumstance that wouldn`t work with a city that hadn`t been starved for the big league. If QC ever gets a big league team again it could work there but Canadian fans are impatient. The existence of this thread is proof.

This is from a thread called "Burn It Down".

The first quote is the OP, clipped to spare everyone the fluffy rant reasoning.

And the second quote is why I loved this guy. Balanced and educating.

Then his last line is the clean-up hitter clearing the bases. lol

Man he was great at staying balanced and reasoning.

2 weeks into last season and a thread about rebuilding again.

I do stupid stuff like, "fluffy rant reasoning".

FF's posts are like training, study material.

I remember harassing FF (jokingly) about where my all time favourite goalie was, Bernie Parent, in his sig.

He told me that a compatriot on the Flyers board built the sig and that's it. His all-time favourite line.

Maybe yearly I'd let him know his sig reminds me of my idol, Bernie Parent, just for laughs.

Now every time I hear Holmgren's name I think of the times he pissed off FF.

It worked! And I will heed your warnings :)

Thank you very much Conundrumed, and again to Carty as well for creating it!

Don't thank me yet, you've got my original one, lol.

If you wanna give it a try (wouldn't work on mine),

    Right click Carty's, "Copy".

Paste it in My Pictures on your hard drive. Go into where you pasted it.

    Open it, right click "Copy".

Go into account settings, my sig, same as before and right click paste.

My account is screwed for for sure. That route might work better for you.

At any rate, just asking was enough.

Thanks buddy. Just nice to see how much he meant 'round here.

Peeps, jj....post how you did it, we're hockey grunts. lol

Hey Conundrumed, I too would like to show my respect for FF52 in my signature. How do I go about adding your graphic to my signature on these forums? I don’t see where I can add a signature to my posts.

    Thank you in advance!

    That's awesome Pal.

Unfortunately, you're asking the guy that fights with everything computerese and my account is, well, Blockchained as per the above post.

    Try this should work.

Right click and select, "Copy Image Location".

Go to your username pulldown at the top right.

    Select Account Settings.

As you scroll down, on the left you'll see "My sig" or similar, Left click that.

It'll give you a new page where you'll see where to insert the sig.

    Right click and paste.

    Scroll down and "save".

You'll get a message that your sig has changed.

Now go back to one of your posts and see it's there.

Because honestly I'm not positive it will work, it should. If that doesn't work, post it here, don't fight it.

Then we KNOW for sure The People will describe it in full as I see he has done it. And not in a PM Peeps please.

I'm sure many others have the same question as lou.

If my advice worked lou, just say, It worked!

Warning: This won't work on Carty's, ours are set up different.

Go figure. It was my idea. Carty built. I screwed it all up. lol

Warning #2. Never ask other posters to make a sig for you. This was a special case.

Figure out how to make hero stamps on Google. It can take hours, don't ask others.

I asked Carty as a memorial, and thankfully he agreed. I would never ask for any other reason.

  7. nvrmnd, I can't copy and paste a 30 kB image on this board, and no one can tell me why.

No more images for me. Yet most others can throw endless memes and images up.

Funny that know one seems to know how to solve that, hey, DHT?

    Pyro, you're my last hope!

  8. Well yesterday was amazing. Although we lost a hard, contested battle to the Jets, at the end of the game I physically shared a cheers to ff52 aka Larry with 2 other posters.

Amazing how common interest strangers become new found friends!:)

Now I can breath a bit easier that FlyerFan is a legacy, not only as a poster, but as a person.

Sorrow from us all from the one (you know who you are!) that couldn't make the trip for a legitimate reason and our thoughts are with you too.

Special thanks to the gracious host and hostess.

I made it back in record time, lol.

That was a special day for me.

Thanks guys and gal, I hope it meant as much to you as it did to me.

*insert joke* And we didn't get all out of it and break stuff, lol.

    Hi to Opie!!

  9. I finally figured out how to insert a sig (kind of).

I had made a request to some anonymous :D friend who I knew would have the right words.

If anyone wants to use it, feel free!

I'm prolly well bad at sizing....

But it's a tribute to one of the truly excellent people here.

Many of us here have noticed that it has been quite a while since Flyerfan52 has made a post...   It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that Flyerfan52 passed away peacefully while at home the day after his last post...   His name was Larry...

A lot of us often called him FF52...   and I will do that here...   After months of some of us trying to contact FF52, yesterday Pyro managed to find an obituary that he thought might be his and passed it along to me...   I knew Larry's full name and quite a bit of of personal info, so as soon as I read it, I knew it was his, and I needed a day to digest the sad news and make this post...   I thought that I would post it here in the 'Flames Talk' section where he made most of his posts, as he deserved to have it here, and not tucked away in the 'General Discussions' section where many might not see it...

As you know, FF52 was a true fan of the game of hockey, and we were fortunate to have him share his tremendous insight of the game, as he was as close to a human encyclopedia of hockey as I have ever known...   Larry was also a very kindhearted and soft spoken soul and he also had a great sense of humour and wit... His posts would sometimes make me see a different angle on something hockey related, and he often brightened my day with his good sense of humour...   We have lost a good fiend to the Flames Message Boards...

Please feel free to post any fond memories of Flyerfan52 in this thread, and I know many of us have them...   One more thing...   When the Flames host the Rangers tomorrow night, raise a fresh cold beer and say "To Flyerfan52, SKOL!!!", have a drink and then say "GO FLAMES!!!...   the Rangers suck", and have another...   He would have liked that, and somewhere in heaven above, he will be smiling...   FF52 hated the Rags...

    Condolences.

Thank you Carty and Pyro for caring so much that you took it as far as finding out. That is a special kinship.

I could see years ago the friendship and respect between you guys had for each other was special.

As for FF52, I don't know that I could possibly say enough. We shared PMs, not frequently enough, but I have a world of respect for him.

Your description of him Carty is to a tee based on his posting. He never put on airs that he was the smartest guy in the room when most of the time he was.

He never let a debate fall to anger no matter how heated. He is charming is the best way I can describe it. Because I travel a lot for work I'd been hoping I'd get to Winnipeg to look him up. Alas, I never had that good fortune.

Way back in the day on this board when I was crash, we had a section called "Trash Talk". Other team's posters would come and try to light into us and it was a free-for-all of slamming posters. I quite enjoyed it, but it also set in on me that it's a fun thing to do.

Reading FF's posts taught me that I'm going about it wrong, post-trash talk. He stayed level and balanced all the time and didn't suffer fools, because there is no way around him just detailing why he's right.

He had incredible knowledge and insight and used it with a refrain and humility we should all learn from.

I know we mainly agreed, but sometimes I'd throw up things that weren't well thought out. FF would quote me, kindly give me points of contention, and I'd just accept I was wrong. lol

I literally cheered for Winnipeg and Philly in the playoffs solely out of my respect for him and being excited for him.

Last year I PMed him about the Jets run and if he's seeing games. I have a season's tix holder friend I wanted to ask about getting FF 2 tix. But he wanted no part of pandemonium when he has a perfect view on his TV. lol

Sometimes I work with guys nearing retirement that are the most miserable people you've ever been around. Occasionally, it's the opposite.

We refer to those few guys as, ol' codgers or charmers. They have a twinkle in their eye and a smile on their face. And whether you're at work, in a restaurant, having a beer, whatever, they have an appeal that just lifts the atmosphere for everyone around them. A kind of magic about them.

Unfortunately I haven't been in Winnipeg for a lot of years.

Because I know I'd have met a relatively rare "ol' codger" or "charmer".

Thanks for the early warning yesterday Carty and Pyro, I well up just thinking about it.

He's one of the 1st Ballot Hall of Famers here in my books, and I've been here for 26 years.

Rest well Larry, you were a model and an influence on all of us.

I wonder why Mason McDonald hasn't been given more of a chance at the AHL level this year. He is having a very nice year in Kansas City of the ECHL. He is 5th in the league with a 2.32 GAA, he is 5th in save % with a .921, he is 1st with 4 SO, and 6th with 20 wins (in just 29 games).

I was one of the few people around who were actually ok with drafting McDonald ahead of Demko. McDonald has had some hiccups along the way, no doubt, but he has always had the ideal size and athleticism for the goalie position, he has struggled with confidence and the mental side of the game, as well as fine tuning his technique.

At 22 I think there is still potential with McDonald and I hope they don't give up on him now.

I'm with you on MacDonald. Not a care that they took him over Demko. For the reasons you cite also.

My opinion on MacDonald is that he has simply been too nice and accommodating.

He's very mellow when I've met him a few times in the past.

In Pro, as a goalie, stop saying please and thank you.

It is all battle and attitude or you'll be taken advantage of.

I'd point to Rittich's game now, he's not taking anything from anyone.

MacDonald is young and has been extremely humble in the past. When you get to pro as a goalie, humble will kill your career.

Hungry and angry will get you further.

Hopefully MacDonald is playing that way now. Putting Parsons ahead of him, with no stats to back it up, hopefully lit his fire.

I'm not writing him off, to be certain. Goalie is psychological, just find the right nerve to make him want to prove you wrong. imho

Ya,  was just talking about who's one the roster.

I am a little hesitant on bringing up a guy just off an injury in his first pro year.

The playoffs is maybe not the greatest time to groom him.

If we were down to 3 LD available I might have something else to say.

I remember reading at tdl that they were expecting to call Vali back up in mid to late March.

I hope they do. Stockton isn't making the playoffs so seeing what the playoffs are like isn't a terrible thing to be around even if he isn't in consistently.

But if Hanifin doesn't get better, he might be regardless.

Ice the best team is all I ask. If that's 2 rooks on D, so be it.

Can't be afraid due to preconceived notions.

And he's not really "just off an injury", I believe he's played 16 in Stockton now.

    Recall-wise, there is no impact.

Extra guys floating around with not enough spots to play them regularly for the right reason.

Stone doesn't play LD, which is the only place where he would possibly beat out a player.

I suppose you could move Brodie to 3rd pair and play with Stone, but Fantenberg has been playing pretty well.

    LD                   RD

    Gio                  Brodie

    Hanifin            Hamonic

    Fantenberg     Andersson

    Kylington        Prout

                           Stone

Pretty tough to find spots to play these guys in.

    And haven't added Valimaki yet.

I’m not too concerned with our goalie situation tbh. We probably have one of the best tandems right now. If we can get Gillies and Parsons to develop into NHL goalies we could be set for years to come.

I agree. Every goalie gives up shaky goals. Both have been pretty solid recently.

When I tell people that I used to play goal, I add, "and never gave up a goal, not even in practice. I got bored with it". lol

At the end of the day, it's only one loss.

Losing a single game does not concern me.

    It's how you lose.

It's how the loss affects the players.

The bigger part for me is how they manage the starts from here on.

The Flames want to guarantee home ice.

Smith, even with his 5 game winning streak is still only 19-12-2 with a .895 SV% and 2.92 GAA

    Rittich is 22-5-5 with a 913 SA% nd 2.56 GAA.

Give the guy with the best chance to win and worry about needing a backup in the games you need one.

    Affects the players?

Score more than 2. That's what they should be worried about.

We've been playing room-for-error hockey imo.

Time to tighten it up. Capitalize on chances, show urgency.

    Doesn't matter who's in net.

This year is scorers paradise, so score.

He is an important cog imo. Not your pts guy, but removing him last night had an impact. imho.

    No hearing...

  17. I don't get it. We aren't going to close out the season 35-0.

Excited about 1 loss after a hard fought February.

My takeaway from last night was mainly, we would kill these guys in a series.

    Let's not kid ourselves.

The challenge was goalie interference but it's not clear if this was interference by Bennett or by Czarnik.  Bennett clearly cut across the crease on the follow through of his shot and pushed Dubnyk's pad.  What also appears clear is the puck was under Dubnyk and Czarnik stabbed into Dubnyk's pads in process of getting the loose puck.  So Czarnik's stick also made contact with Dubnyk.

Either way, the league doesn't have a protocol for what is and isn't allowed. I'd assume this was against Bennett, so Suter's push from behind should have been taken into account. Bennett still did a good job of trying to avoid, so I thought the contact was incidental. But I'm a homer, so there's that. lol

  19. 5 minutes ago, The_People1 said:

To me, the disallowed goal was more Czarnik pushed the goal and the puck in.  No different than that Senarots game where two goals were disallowed because the player hit the goalies glove and pushed the puck in.  I don't believe the drive to the net and that incidental contact was the major factor... but of course, it probably was.

Goalie interference was the challenge and result. Czarnik really just got his stick on the loose puck between Dubnyk's legs.
