Love it. Oilers just provided some quality entertainment. can’t wait to see all their best writers defend this one and claim

its their missing piece

I'm assuming the money is the finer points.

Since they don't have a 3rd this year, it has to be a 4th or next year's 3rd.

They have been defending this for the last week, using tweets from CHI beat writers etc to justify it.

Already saying this gets them closer to top 1/3 of NHL.

Media parrots suggested that Larsson was a lock to sign after the expansion draft, and that it was a formality.

Now they are saying they are working on a long term deal with Barrie.

So much for improvements to the team with all the added cap space.

$11m to re-sign Yamamoto, Khaira, Kahun, Barrie, Smith ($2m expected).

Almost certainly, Neal or Koskinen is a buy out in the making.

That's basically needed to just ice the remaining players and add a $2m guy.

Whether or not EDM signs Hyman is one thing, a sign and trade doesn't make much sense.

They shouldn't be giving him 8yrs, that's just way too long, but Holland did that in DET and may be doing the same with the Oil.

While a sign and trade likely wouldn't cost too much. It would still cost a pick. The Oilers always talk about building through the draft, well right now they have traded 5 of their next 14 selections, with the potential of both 2nd's being moved.. I'm not complaining about it, but objectively that should be concerning.

I believe they want to compete now, so trading picks is in that wheelhouse.

Except.....

The picks they have traded only accound for Keith still being there.

Ennis traded for a 5th - UFA

2020 2nd and 2021 2nd for Athanasiou

2020 4th round pick for Mike Green - gone

2021 3rd for Neal - potential buyout

Losing Larson in the expansion draft too.

D gets worse with the addition of Keith, then loses Larson and now they are going to put Smith behind that for more than 1 year?

Yikes.

Welcome to Ken Holland Edmonton. Now he'll give Hyman too much term and $$$, like Hyman is a saviour.lol

Next year will really be fun with plenty of players to re-up and no money to do it.

I guess the Lucic trade was the only real win for him.

Player starting to decline.  Oops, Neal is worse.

Player had NMC.  Oops, he waived it.

Player had high actual dollars owing.  Oops, he traded after major bonus paid, now owed less than Neal.

Only cost a 3rd rounder if Neal was able to score 21.  Oops, league prorated it.

His reputation still has some fooled that he is the right choice.

Some are catching on that he may be a quack.

Amazing no one thought to look at how devastated the Wings franchise had become due to his stupidity. 32yr old frans nielsen, 6yrs, 5.25 per to replace Datsyuk. He loves giving term to make sure he destroys the future. The Wings had to wait and clean house, Holland left zero choice. Now he's doing the same to the Oilers.

The fans have always been stuck with name brands.

Coaches that people heard about years ago.

Figureheads to prop up the losing culture.

GM's that won a cup somewhere.

Defense that were good years ago.

I find it amazing that a lot of fans believe in what he is doing.

Doesn't matter how confused the message is or where he goes in the other direction after saying it.

Defending the Keith trade, protecting Kassian, blaming Larsson for being a douche.

The media hacks suggest that its some master plan and every thing is done right.

If the Oilers acquired Risto Twitter might actually break from all the reactions.

Nothing like being specific.  Between now and training camp.  Brilliant.

Please, please trade for Risto.

That would be the trifecta.

I don't know why Barrie would want a 3 year deal.

Pretty much means his next deal is much lower.

3 x $6m?

First NHL D-man to lead the NHL in points and not garner a single Norris vote.

I'm undecided which tire fire I want to see in EDM.

Barrie or Risto.

Oilers walking away from Khaira and Kahun.

I get Khaira is on a downward spiral being forced to play as a tough guy, and it's smart to not spend a ton of money on him.

But, Kahun did what they wanted, just not enough goals I guess.

The water needs to be investigated.

We can assume in almost all cases it's mutual...

Speaking of walking away, how much longer do we think McDavid has there?    Surely people are placing bets on this
