    Goaltending

Kipper credits the Flames, might have been Noodles, for telling him that he needed to change things up to maintain his ice time and helped him change up some training.
  2. Coleman's contract ends the 2026-2027 season. retaining would be a lot of money. So it better cost the other team. Even retaining 500k is 1.5, in total money. Retaining 900k per brings him to a manageable 4m. But that cost the flames 2.7 mil
  3. I agree with this. Trade Coleman to Dallas or something. He likes a community feel. A feel good story for Calgary and him choosing the Flames. I like him enough to keep him to mentor, but if you can get something then it's in line with what we did this year.
  4. I don't even know if they need to play the 4th as per usual anymore. Why not just role all 4 evenly? Or play Coronato and like Travel says, push up and down the lineup? Maybe a Backlund Bump? I dunno. At least I think we only have mangiapane for one more year. He's ok, but I think he's a 4m- player, not a 5+. I never really liked him, because he falls. I liked his get up and go, literally, but being down too much... I think it's a good pick, but at the same time, having too many small guys like him hurts the team.... Dube's gone now though.
  5. This is the time of year where (Maybe more theoretically) other teams start their backups against the teams that are clearly out. Hope that happens a lot and they can get a few extra points. I've never been a team tank, no!
  6. which is why we can't be drafting guys who need work on skating. We need to draft skill and speed. I think we tend to go safe on 2-way play. We need wheels. I get you can move up ice as fast as the puck can go, it's the defending where speed is a factor...
  7. Looks like the best we can do if we won lotto is draft 2nd overall in our current 12th spot. We need to drop a few more to get slightly better odds, and only one spot to have a chance at 1st overall.
  8. they'll get the Chicago treatment as well and win the lottery.
  9. for me it's like playing poker, would the Flames want to play that hand so soon, to let everyone know they want or don't want to draft someone? For me it's a closer to the draft thing. I just hope we don't go reaching. I feel Honzek was a touch a reach... but not much. Not the player.
  10. i think if jersey stays out of the top 10 and is drafting 10-12 it could be a Markstrom for their first. The idea is that before the deadline Holtz was included based on the chance the pick would have been around 20 or later. it depends on the market. Typically rentals cost more at TDL but then draft picks cost more at the draft because of potential and value of having ELC in a roster in a few years when teams will contend... teams are willing to gamble for a chance at a cup at the deadline.
  11. can we do a Markstrom and Andersson with salary retained? Then their 1st and Holtz or something like that? I have this eerie feeling we dropped the ball on not trading Markstrom at the deadline. It's going to cost us more if we wanna trade, or it turns into same deal but the 2025 first? Silly not to trade Markstrom when it could have given the devils 3 runs possibly instead of 2, since they probably felt he was the missing link when they were close enough to sniff the playoffs.
  12. i think trading up in drafts works when it's 2-3 spots difference. The team trading down has to see value in the lower spot and gain another pick for it, like the Flames did with situations like Zary, etc. sometimes teams might trade a pick completely with no other firsts in return... so I see us being able to maybe trade our 9-11 to move up 6-8 using a 2nd rounder. I don't see a team trading out of their spot at 5 and getting the Canucks pick unless we are trading Andersson or Weegar. If Jersey wants Marky, maybe they'd do Marky and the Canucks pick for theirs. In that scenario I think they don't add Holtz.
  13. Coming close to winning the cup, as close as a player can without winning it, Conroy might have an idea on the kind of team that wins it. Granted he's coming out of an era but has learnt to GM in the current one. But I'm hoping he has a vision of how to, and starting with needing (an) elite Defender(s). id say you need one elite D and an elite C. Of course a real 2nd line C and so on, but I think building a team with cap is filling those spots wisely with proper cost allotments in every position.
  14. We can be high on them and know exactly what they are. We know they're not elite top pair. They're the compliments to the elite a team needs. If you can get that trading them, then you do it. its too bad we couldn't get Byram? I dunno if he was going to be elite, but he would have been a good start.
  15. If building net out, I think D is the way to go. Defending, I think, is just as important as G. If team D sucks, we see how a goalie with good numbers in Elliott goes to a Flames team and the D is different and see the results. While he was ok, he wasn't the same goalie, which I'd say is due to team D, which the need is in having elite top2D... Elite C is just as important, but if that isn't in this draft, go for what is.
  16. yup, lists are so arbitrary. All teams have their own lists, which is why you get Jankowski drafts. The Flames had him on their list. Dunno if that's Flames scouts or the ASSistant. GM at the time.
  17. no one was saying it's a controversy. Was simply pointing out that he felt there was a better chance to play with the Flames. he said so himself, that he felt that way, and he also said he thought it would be cool to be a part of the trade...
  18. could you go: 1-5 6-15? surely the top 1-3 tend to be in their own class then 4-5, then 6-8, then 9-15 really. I talk out of my Hash Rate, But like to think a top 3 pick is better than a 5-10... etc i get what you're saying though.
  19. he actually said it himself! https://www.canucksdaily.com/nhl-team/vancouver-canucks/major-top-prospect-hunter-brzustewicz-reveals-why-he-did-not-want-to-sign-in-vancouver
  20. there was a rumour he wasn't going to sign with the Canucks because he didn't see a clear path.
  21. The reason Brzustewicz was happy to be traded was chance at playing. He was blocked by Hughes. Not saying he's looks be as good but, how far away is he from playing? Is it 2-3 more seasons or 1-2?
  22. isn't the Flames' first in 2025 theirs or Montreal's? Could be the Panther's pick going to Montreal instead?
  23. Wow! He was only two years older than me! Sad to see this!!! he was a huge add on the 04 run.
