  1. Chris Ilitch probably took Yzerman's phone away this week after watching Yzerman and his endless shenanigans last offseason. Arizona played a real game tonight so did the Flames last night. Some say it's an every day league. DET has some work to do if they want to claim a playoff spot.
  2. Conroy did trade Marky, Marky accepted the trade, someone above Conroy Kiboshed the deal, so here we are.
  3. I'm reading everything but the obvious here. Conroy had a deal with NJ. Marky nixed the deal because he did not like the destination. Marky is pissed because he was not asked to waive his NMC before Flames brought him the deal. Still a week to sort this out.... but NJ is now losing interest the further they slip back in the standings.
  4. Why not just give the 1st pick to the 17th placed team which does not make the playoffs, 2nd pick to the 18th placed team, 3rd pick to the 19th placed team, etc. Peeps mentioned this a few years ago which I argued against, but it makes sense, rewards the teams that don't make the playoffs but are still trying to win. Tanking would be eliminated. Don't really want to debate this as its been beat to death.
  5. Promoting losing is not healthy for any league... except maybe the Beer Cap League. The good old days.
  6. NJ has likely offered the Flames a deal they would accept for Markstrom ....... but Markstrom likey said NO. Why would he uproot his family for another team 5000km away that has the same chances at making the playoffs as the Flames? May as well stay put. With NJ eating $$ on the Tanev trade indicates there is a good relationship between Conroy and Fitzgerald. Marky's ##'s are sure to decline after subtracting Han and Tan.
  7. psst....we are not a playoff team, we are at best 5th in our division, and we are still subtracting.
  8. DS was brought in as a last ditch effort to win and squeeze what he could out of the team that remained, it was a valiant effort. The exodus started with Bennet, but he wanted out before DS even got here. DS gave him every opportunity (2/3 season), but SB proved to be no more than what we witnessed in years prior, he is what he is, so they let him go. Monahan proved to be broken and we paid dearly to rid of him in his last year. Then came the JHG middle finger, then the MT middle finger. BT opened the wallet and paid Kadri with new found money. The newly acquired Weegar was a bit of a wonderer at first, Florida style hockey, but DS tamed him as the season went on, his defensive side of the game improved by years’ end. But twinkle toes (Hubs) was a project that DS could not complete in one year. The core was gone and the newbies brought in were not cutting it, BT recognized it and bolted for greener pastures, Conroy now challenged with the rebuild. BT was here 8 years and he did what he could, with what he had, in an attempt to win every year, which had been the Flames mandate. Twinkle toes and DS obviously had issues, $80M dollar player vs $8M dollar coach. The big problems started when Hubs arrived, and I don’t think the problems are going away. Too much money for too long. New dude brought in, making double the money everyone else, not catching on to the system or producing as he should, which upsets the leadership and salary structure of entire team. I can understand why our veterans want out, this in not how we’ve done it here before and our veteran players are done being loyal, it’s a business and they want paid too, wherever that may be. DS is about SC's, I can't help but think the Coilers will give him an opportunity before McDavid departs, and why not, the Flames will be paying for DS anyways.
  9. Weegar should get a double assist on the DET goal. First he takes himself out of the play for a pointless hit on the sideboards causing Dube to scramble at covering Weegars empty D position resulting in CGY penalty. Then Weegar is a pylon on the ppg against. Useless.
  10. If you look at CalgaryNext web page and their vision, it was surrounded by high rise condos. Every neighbor hood needs an anchor and CalgaryNext would have been the ancho to attract BOOM development in west village, so no I don’t think it had anything to do with commercial space, you need a balance of residential and commercial amenities to attract people. The issue was Nenshi, his argument was “people benefit”, he did not see the benefit of the project to the people of Calgary, he wouldn’t listen anyway. Nenshi was not going to pay 1 cent of tax payer dollars, he probably has never paid 5 cents to go see a hockey game or a football game, sports and entertainment was not in his fabric, so we all suffered. The other hot potato was the subsurface contamination cleanup, Nenshi wanted nothing to do with it late in his 3rd term, let others deal with it, retire unscathed. This guy was a cast off in the real world and banished to a classroom, only to be resurrected by 1000’s of kids at Mount Royal University wanting a voice, it was an anomaly, and we got stuck with him for over a decade. The $890M project (structure) plus clean-up was a Swiss army knife like no other to satisfy 5 major objectives at pennies on the dollar. The opportunity is lost, it’s gone, we are now committed to sinking 100’s of millions if not 1000’s of millions into each objective, one at a time, all because of lack of vision.
  11. In 2015 (8 yrs ago) Ken King and the CESC submitted a proposal to the City of Calgary called “Calgary Next”. It was a mastermind project, and if accepted would have been completed by now. It scratched all the itches the City was suffering from but it was way ahead of its time, at least for the small minded politicians (Nenshi) and supporters. The project was to include an indoor Field House, Event Centre, Hockey Arena and indoor Football Stadium, all for $890M. The cost to the City was half ($450M) plus the cost to clean up any subsurface creosote contamination encountered. The City (Gondek -which is a Nenshi apprentice) has since committed to spent $285M for a Field House at Foothills Park plus an estimated $200M for the BMO Event Centre Expansion. For those poor in math, that tallies $485M so far, which is more than what the tax payer would have paid for their portion of Calgary Next, and we still don’t have an Arena, or and indoor Football Stadium, and the Creosote is still in the ground, waiting to get cleaned up. Bravo Calgary voters, we are doing it your way. Let’s talk and talk and talk some more, maybe talk about going back to Ken’s original plan, Calgary Next. Maybe we can talk about where the Flames could relocate. Murray Edwards has been plenty patient with these moron politicians.
  12. No timely saves. Markstrom has allowed a goal on the first shot of the game many times this year, last night I think he makes the first save but lets the second shot in. Second period he lets the first shot in. Again, on the game winning goal Markstrom is flailing around like a fish out of water no where in the blue paint. Pretty hard to win when your goalie can't stay on his feet between the posts. Another 0.847 SA%. Not good enough.
  13. Who was the German dude that took 15 shot attempts to hit 4 targets? Poor guy was out there all alone with nobody's coat tail to hang onto.
  14. You mean like can the coach on Saturday evening, hand the team over to the A coach for 6 days, then can him too the following Friday? Interesting concept. Tocchet gets booed first game behind the bench, its all going as anticipated, misery and mismanagement on the west coast. Imagine the negotiation leverage Tocchet gained once the story got leaked. Did I say $4M, sorry I meant $5M. Tocchets team probably leaked the news to gain leverage. Pretty sure the switch wasn't suppose to happen until the all star break, but it got moved up and probably cost a few more bucks.
