Conroy is going to keep us in the murky middle. The team's goal is always compete, which is fine, but it is to just get in and anything can happen. These deals he's made all year are very much in that vein...

he is looking for near NHL ready players.

I think they are going to be quite bad.

They have three legitimate NHL D right now.

Somebody has to play here while the picks go in the pipeline. near ready players are like draft picks that have already have time to ripen a little

This is true, has endstrom been in there then we would have had a good return, this is junk…we’ll bare minimum to be honest with a lot more

hope on the picks…endstrom would have been ideal

Don't agree, clearing out all the main UFAs is likely to drop the Flames into the bottom 10, or better.  Let's see what happens with Markstrom.  In addition we gained lots of Cap space, and opened up space for our rookies, while obtaining a few vets to help out.  I think he has done well, if it is a homer overall will depend on drafting...

So.. what you're saying is he took a worse return on purpose ?

Remember..all Vegas had to do was give the best offer .. that means the others were worse

On the positive side .. that was the last of the "had to trade them " club..  any future moves he holds the cards

And hey ..he stacked the deck against the oilers in the process..that's worth value too

So it's not a first rounder this year. It's 2025 unless Vegas trades it this year, then it's 2026.

Vegas hosts the draft this year so not surprisingly they didn't want to deal their pick this year.

Yeah.. just not good all around here for Calgary. Although I don't mind at all the idea of getting 1st rounder in 25/26. Like the idea of spreading that out.

Meh, 2025 first is good, projected to be a good draft…

2026 has beard’s cousin in it, could be a  good draft and maybe LVK has a win year…

either way, still a first round pick.

This year isn't reportedly a deep draft anyways.  Maybe next year's crop would be better.

No Steinberg is saying the 1st might have conditions on it

Apparently, full deal from Seravalli: Conditional 2025 1st, unless they trade it before the trade deadline, then 2026 1st.  Conditional 2024 3rd, upgrades to 2nd if Vegas wins 1 round this year.

As you would expect, the 2025 pick is top 10 protected. Will convert to a 2026 if Vegas is in the top 10 (unlikely anyway)

So 2 conditions on the 1st rounder. 1 of which we'll know soon and the other we'll have to wait a season on
