Oh this could end up stinging....

i wonder if it would mean details around that deal is off the table. Couldn’t they trade the 2nd overall picked player plus what they would have to the Flames if Johnny doesn’t sign?

a part of me feels they should have done it anyway? I dunno. Tkachuk is good though.

While I remain highly doubtful that pick was in play for Tkachuk i'm not really a fan of the blaming Gaudreau here. he is simply exercising his rights and rights that he has earned. I get the situation sucks but honestly i point the finger at the Flames who never should have let it get to this point if they deemed Gaudreau a franchise player (which they clearly do based on their pitch).

I don't mind them waiting it out but if they are turning down deals waiting for him that is their call not Gaudreau's.

No I blame the agent at this point .. but this precisely the reason there should have been a deadline of the draft for at least a direction of where he wants to be ..if they had to spend the next week hammering out the actual deal so be it ..

I don't think we can or should compete on a 7 year offer so I really hope if Juky 13 hits with him unsigned they tell them to pump sand and spend money elsewhere

It would really depend on what " more" is.. but I agree .. tho I don't want the player they took I'd want Wright..#1 centers don't grow on trees

On an optimistic note..it could also mean BT feels strongly he's coming back

Was just reading they'll have around 18.. Keith looking likely to retire + Smith likely IR for the season ..but still ya .not great.. whatever goalie they get will likely be in the 5ish range .. likely gonna be Husso, Campbell or Kuemper

Still think it's funny they won't get the bonus space for Keith if he retires, tho to be honest I didn't even understand why there'd be bonus space anyway

On a side note .. Kane and Toewes probabaly gonna beg to be traded now

They have 10.3 with 7F, 7D (including Klef) and 1G (Smith).

I am sure they would like Keith to retire, but that screws CHI.

He wouldn't do that to them.

He likes playing.

So, if you include Smith and Klef on IR, that gives you a cushion of $7M, but not rreal cap.

Have to get a real goalie + backup - $6M + $1M

Sign Kulak - $4M

Sign Yammer - $3M

Sign McLeod - 1.25M

Sign 4 more F at minimum pay = $3M

No Kane and no Pooly

Total spent to fill the team = $18.25M

Available cap + cushion = 17.3M

Over cap by at a million.

And that's a worse team than they had last season, other than a good goalie.

No better than when Smith played well.

I think the return on Tkachuk would be underwhelming.

Fiala was coming off an 85pt season and went for a mid first and prospect that wasn’t going to sign with LA.

Debrincat has scored 40 twice, coming off a 78pt season and went for 7th, 39th and a 3rd.

Seems as though RFA’s approaching UFA (Fiala) and players with big QO’s (Debrincat) aren’t getting nearly the return that you’d think. Tkachuk is right in the same boat as those two.

Well that's one less Goalie for Edmonton.. breaks my heart haha.

That's why Yzerman is one of the best

Awesome.  I didn't want to have to face him so much.  Keep him in the East.

But I will say this, he could be all that or all hat.

Agreed ..he was just likely gonna be the cheapest of the group ..that's 2 goalies already traded today..

I'm really hoping they get Campbell . He's cracked under pressure many times..

Altho we also have seen what happens to goalies that leave Colorado

Campbell had two seasons; one he was really good, the other he was really bad.

He was a backup that never played a ton of games.

Even so, he managed a 31-9-6 record.

That's nothing to sneer at.

Vanecek and 46th traded for 37th and 70th.

So, EDM loses out on available young goalies to avoid buying out Kassian.

2 goalies they were high on.

They might have space to get into a bidding war with TOR, NJ.

Looks like he's ok screwing them ..lol,. But damn that's another $5.5 Edmonton gets to play with

Huh so his recapture penalty is charged to the Blackhawks??  Not the Oilers?

Correct .. the team that signed the deal

Oilers just lose his cap hit ..

Oilers fans are whining over something that I don't even understand..that there was supposed to be some kind of credit , like a bonus $3m cap they are supposed to get..but league has already confirmed no..   I think that's only if they were the ones getting the penalty

So they lose a top 4D and have to replace a top 4D.

Kulak might be able to do that.

Doesn't make them any deeper.

Likely a sideways move.

Even with the retirement, they don't have enough for Kane.

They could I guess if they dipped into the LTIR overage.

Not sure they can keep Pooly regardless.
