If I don’t have to give the players we got, no question I want dougie back, but only if I get to keep Lindy and Noah

Pretty sure you can’t have both sides.

For me, I thought Byron got away too early but I now forget the situation as to why he was put on waivers.

I think we mentioned it in a thread recently and someone said it was because we wanted to protect Ortio in that 3 goalie fiasco.

for me it would’ve been Hathaway and Kulak.

the last few years with Valamaki being injured we could’ve used the LD depth and I would have kept Kylington in the minors until he was ready, or developed a complete game.

When you consider the circumstances around all of them, no one.

Hathaway gets some consideration but I really don’t like the contract he got.

in a perfect world I would undo the Hamilton trade but that doesn’t exist and I don’t think Hamilton could stay here.

So no one.

Probably Hathaway for me because of that RHS RW, speed, grit, role player, etc.  We haven't replaced that but that contract.  The final year is going to be a write off for the Caps.

I would take Reider over Nordstrom by a slight margin.  Reider was an elite one dimensional PK specialist with breakaway speed.  Nordstrom is so bland and average everywhere.  Reider couldn't do much else during 5-on-5 but sometimes it's better to be elite at one thing than to be average everywhere.

And that brings me to Derek Forbort who I feel is the perfect 3rd pair shut down D.  Only $1-mil-per.  We should've traded Hanifin for a RW, played Valimaki in the 2nd pair role, and brought back Forbort for the bottom pair.  Again, sometimes it's great to have elite shut down D to close out a game or kill off a key PK.

Clearly TJ Brodie, followed by Frolik and Janko

reasons:

1. Brodie with Gio would put Anderson with Valimaki which is the successor D pair to the Gio Brodie pair, well actually we would have 2 super slid replacements considering Hanifin and Tanev are clicking so good, but the sooner we get Valimaki and Anderson together that’s gonna be a heck of d pair too.

2. Frolik would be great to slot in on RW with Backlund again for the 3rd line shut down with either Manji or Dube on LW...crappy part here is Manji or Dube’s offence number would drop, however, I get the feeling of Dube were to be the LW on that he would be the fore checker and make things troublesome for the opposite side and with Backlund and Frolik’s ability to hold on the the puck, I think this line would frustrate the heck out of teams and actually manage to get decent offensive number.

3. Janko, to Ctr the 4th line makes ryan very expendable, added to that I think he would slot in  on the 4 line well with Lucic and either Levino or Simon on the RW...not a traditional 4th line crash and bang or a shut down line but more of a balanced line that could do a little bit of everything and hold their own against any other line.

absolutely no interest in any others.

I gotta pretty much agree with you on Hath and Reider, for the same reasons. Forbert was/is OK, I just think he looks so much better on a mediocre Jets D, he could be easily replaced from within.

I actually didn’t mind Reider either. He could play up and down the lineup but I am pretty sure “he was the reason we didn’t make the” second round. “He didn’t score enough for us.” Seriously though, I think he stabilized the 4th line and would be good here now.

Hathaway, Ryan, Rieder

seems like a good line.

I could say Hamilton, but won't.

Great player, yes. But there were issues here. In Gulutzan's 1st season here, the trade rumours started. He was great in his final year, but again, there were issues. Didn't show up for the exit meetings.

Again, he's a very good player, but there are players that make those around them better, I don't think Dougie is that. I wouldn't be giving him a Pietrangelo type deal in free agency.

Janko wasn’t developed properly, he’s doing better in pits already, show be interesting to see how he develops...however, having said that he was developing here but then took a sudden nose dive so I’m not sure if it was the player or the team...we shall see after a year or so on another team if he flops then it’s the player if he dose well (which I think he will)...it may be a bitter pill for Cgy

one thing I think we can all agree on, back in the day when he was drafted and now, he was clearly a waisted 1st round pick even back then he was at best 2nd rounder

He is?  1 2 point game and very little to show after.  I'm not going to lie, I haven't watched him in Pittsburgh but his analytics are terrible and his traditional stats aren't good either so unless he is doing things that don't reflect in any statistical category (not sure what that would be) I'm going to keep my opinion that we are better off without him.  Also keep in mind once the Flames didn't tender him he wasn't coming back, so the only way he'd be here for 700k is if nobody else wanted him otherwise it would've been over 1.7M, and the price difference between him and Ryan vs. their actual value to the team would be astronomical.  Ryan is better at every aspect with the only exception being size, which Jankowski hardly uses effectively anyway.

The one thing with this list of players that once wore the Flaming C is not one of them is abosolutley screaming to me that we made a wrong move at the time.  You can argue the mertis of the Hamilton trade both ways but apart form him no one is aboslutley lighting it up Martin St Louis style.

I watch my fair share of Carolina games and while Dougie is talented offensively, he's still a soft player and much less engaged in his own end.

With how well Hanifin has played this season, being younger and more cost controlled, and taking into consideration how Lindholm just keeps improving, I'd still do that trade every day.

For me, the one player I regret losing was Baby Jagr.

Frolik was misused by BP, but part of that was the eventual proper use of Mangiapane.

He regularly outscored Bennett.

Could kill penalties.

Not sure how he would fit today's Flames.

Replace Bennett on Lucic-Backlund line?

Be a replacement for Nordstrom and actually be able to score a goal?

If we had him at Nordstroms cap hit I'd be all over that replacement for sure.
