  1. Well, if that's the case then why are they interested now? Could just be smoke, but it does make sense to trade now. Team has one of the best chances in the east to win the cup. Maybe load up? Hanifin doesn't miss games, unlike some of their D.
  2. So, if you make the trade today, then you have the chance to flip the asset. Or you sign him when he gets here. If it was Forsling, then it would likely be an easy sign. I doubt it would be Montour, since he's quite the player there. In either case, they become trade bait. FLA isn't trading either during a cup run. But trading because of needing to sign Hanifin and Reinhart? Anyway, just musing. I would be fine with Lundell + Mikkola + a pick. Mikkola has term. If we needed to retain salary, then add a pick
  3. I would say that the early rumour was Lundell. To make it reasonable, it should be Lundell + Forsling or Montour or Mikkola + 2025 2nd. Mikkola in the deal makes more sense than say Montour, who had 73 points last year. Lundell and one of those D would need raises next year. Montour could easily make what Hanifin was offered here. Lundell alone maybe is worth the deal, but we have to take salary to do it. That involves the D and the cost to take salary is the 2nd. Or do a 3rd this year and a 4th next year. Make one of them conditional of making conference final.
  4. I laughed when I read that. The impression I had was he wanted to find a mask he could puff a smoke through. LOL
  5. I think you should be a little more carefull about saying that kind of things out loud. It's not very respectful. Talk about that stuff in beer leagues. Who really knows when Ruzicka even started that. Perhaps after he got waived and picked up by a basement team who wouldn't play him. Or that was the reason we waived him. We never were accomodating for drug users. Nyway, not trying to trash you, just stop spreading rumors please. That's my request as a fan, not a mod.
  6. I know you have a good handle on the CBA and cap stuff. I sometimes have to go look and sometimes get results that are no longer in the CBA. The way some of the trade conditions work can make you head spin as well. Almost need to write a program to test the possible results. With Hanifin, I am hoping we have a free hand in making a trade. In theory, the only teams that should be scared off should be Canadian teams. I'm sure though that Toronto could convince him, because centre of the universe and BT loves him.
  7. So, I believe you can trade a player at TDL and he can sign 8 years with that team. Tkachuk was a different story because he wasn't dealt at TDL. Hanifin would be on a team's reserve list. I think I have that right.
  8. Yeah, I think the Devils are desperate. I doubt they want to give any assets to an East team like MTL and I don't think Allen is that good now. Elvis? I doubt he is anything more than he has shown. So, take the deal if it's fair value. Evaluate the player. Trade in the future if you like. Player has pedigree value.
  9. If it was a first, you have to think it was lotto protected. Thos conditions would have to be offset by another pick if moving it to 2025. But I think they wouldn't even listen if it didn't include a 1st. One player and a 2nd isn't a ton. I don't know if there is any smoke around EF, but I do think we would be better off solving the problem now. The news is out there and players listen. No point in holding off, since the players will look at this and be affected. If you are trading him at some point, you might as well get a read on both your other goalies and see what they can do, because frankly that is all we have left for now. Can adjust later but you have to know.
  10. BT learned a difficult lesson as a GM. You can respect a player's wishes to not negotiate if you are willing to lose said player for nothing. I have no idea what he was expecting to happen. A player with the opportunity to play elsewhere under a different coach if he walks to UFA. He can still hold the team randsom. Why were we the dumbest team in the NHL? Only thing missing was being fined a 1st by the NHL.
  11. When I first read this, it was before the EF stories and other so-called insider talk. I thought, well if the offer was something they wanted in the first place, then it should be done. Pretty hard to walk back off the ledge now. Can't PO a goalie about a trade that almost happened but didn't, then turn around and turn down the exact deal they wanted. Saying all that, if these insiders are all full of crap, then they are ruing the sport. If you don't know then shut your pie hole. My understanding is a way of saying you don't know, but think that may be the truth.
  12. And then EF comes out with his stupid comments. I never get what his angle is. Does he want to trash the fans some days or the players or mgmt the next. Everything with him is drama. Markstrom plays the season well, he's the savior of the team and we don't deserve him. He has a shakey playoffs and it's on him. Thachuk hates Doubty, and there we=ill be blood. Tkachuk hates EDM so and so. RIval cities want to crush one another. Johnny wants out. Tkachuk hates the coach. Toffoli wants out. Lindholm wants out. Tanev wants to win in another city. Markstrom isn't happy. Now he wants out. If you were to sum up EF in a single column, it would be some players are lazy spoiled brats and Flames fans want everything and deserve nothing. Player of the week is a god. Next week he is the goat. As far as trading Markstrom, to me it's because we have gone the rebuild/retool route and we won't have him at the top of his game by the time we are ready to compete. Last year we were a bottom 10 team and we got just enough wins out of him to land out of the top 14. This year we are the same thing and have won enough games because of him and the kids that have bought into the NHL game. We lose Zadorov, Lindholm, Dube, Toffoli and barely missed a beat. Markstrom picked up his game when we were on life support. Trading MArkstrom doesn't make us better, but it does shine a light on the areas that need improvement.
  13. The later take on it was not the retentin issue, just the offer for retaining. In other words what they offered to us to have us retain 2.25 years worth of salary retention.
  14. I think it's in bad taste to report a guy was asked if he technically wasn't asked. He may have suggested that he might waive for a certain team or teams. But that's as unlikely as being formally asked without a deal in place. What if Connie had said in passing that they might ask him to waive but weren't there yet. Would you really call that being asked to waive?
  15. He's saying they have backed off from asking CGY to retain salary and approached with the same original offer, just no retention. If you are Connie, are you inclined to take a solid offer or decline because you aren't giving up on the season? I don't know. Sounds like an odd decision considering you are looking to trade Hanifin. Unless the offer sucked.
  16. So, he had 8 goals and as many assists in his last junior year. Is 8 goals and low assists (+7) better or worse than 3 goals and 25 assists (-7) ? We are talking about a team whose top scorer had 56 points in 66 games. I'm not going to pump up the guy without seeing his rookie season in the NHL.
  17. I can see NJ backing off the ledge until this weekend is over. They made their pitch where they stood at the time. Two big games standings wise this weekend. On the road, where they have been better overall. They may decide to push the chips in or fold. If something about the ask wasn't quite right, they could make an alternate offer or just bite the bullet. NJ always surprises me as to their decision making. Go for it in some circumstances. Hold off in others. I don't think Dougie would be available to them for the playoffs, but that's at the edge of his recovery timeline. They have some really decent young talent that could do some things in the playoffs. Shame for them to barely make the playoff and have sub-NHL average goaltending.
  18. I'm not going to argue the general sentiment. When you talk about him as a kid, do you mean his 20 year old season in the Ontario Junior Hockey league? Not the OHL. He's probably not the right player to use to support your argument. With regard to Grush, I think you need to at least watch a game or two at the AHL level before you say he's a bust and hope to be proven wrong. No doubt you may end up being right, but you are starting on the guilty until proven innocent front.
  19. There was some talk that Grush was the target they had in mind. And that Dallas didn't want to include him. Could be collective smoke being blown up our butts. I find it odd that we target a defensive D when trading a defensive D. I thought we got that in the Lindholm trade, but that guy isn't here.
  20. Not sure why you are all of a suddent saying that he said no. There wasn't am actualy trade, so he didn't have to waive his NMC. Speculation says that he was asked if he would to go to NJ and that he was okay with it. They never got to the formal part of a trade with paperwork that needs to be filed. NJ is 5 back of Philly for 3rd and 6 back of Tampa for WC2. NJ has 1 and 2 games in hand repectively. CGY is 5 back of LA and 9 back of 3rd in the Pacific. EDM has 2 games in hand and LA 1. I don't give us or NJ any advantage to making the playoffs. Both teams are on the bubble. NJ getting a very good goalie is more likely to benefit them than us without Tanev annd Hanifin. Next year, we are in a re-tooling year and NJ is getting Dougie back. Having Markstrom just makes too much sense for them. So it makes sense either now or in the summer to trade for Marky. Maybe cheaper now due to less teams to make that trade. If I was NJ, I would do it now. Better chances at making the playoffs vs relying on rookies to save the day.
  21. So now we are using The 4th Period as a trusted source? One guy quoting another guy? I doubt the NJ GM told him that or Connie texted him or returned his calls. I get the logic of not folding up the tent, but we are selling the stable if not the farm. How does keeping Markstrom send the right message to the room? If the offers are not there, sure.
  22. Similar in chance to the VAN pick with them making it to the West conference final, right?
  23. And they should be doing anything to make that happen. A sign and trade for the teams he is on the fence about. Yes, I get he has control about any trade like that, but a known offer in $$ and term vs going where he wants to and limiting his leverage for a new deal. Sign and trade would only be with that known and agreed to destination obviously. Francis is saying Kylington near a deal for extension.
  24. Well the conditional adds a level of complexity, since some teams may have a 1st and no 2nd or a 2nd and no first. Of the top teams, Vegas and CAR have all their first 3 round picks this year. FLA, Tampa and BOS are problems.
