  1. Just an idea. Don't know if it makes us any better, just makes a signed player an asset in trade. To be clear, we re trading somebody.
  2. I guess I was looking at the idea of a free asset coming in and a trade asset going out. Hanifin without PP time. Does he score as much as Kylington without PP time? Is Kylington worth his weight in gold from his breakout season? I don't think it's ever cut and dried.
  3. I was shocked that they waived Richardson and didn't bother doing the same with Ritchie. Faceoffs were more of an issue in the playoffs etc. than team toughness. Not that I was a big fan of Richardson, but I place C above RW. Doesn't really make a difference though. Unless you waived both or didn't go after Carpenter, no room for Rozie.
  4. Just thought I would float this one. Klingberg not signed right now. He's not really a need right now, but would he replace Hanifin? So the idea is sign Klingberg to multi year deal at around $5.5M. Trade Hanifin for a C. The age is different, but the experience level in the NHL almost the same. Don't know if that's a step forward, but maximizing an asset and signing a UFA makes some sense. Only 2 years remaining of Hanifin at this cost.
  5. No doubt. BT does his building in the summer, so we might see some competition. I would like to see Rozie come in like Kylington did last year. The unfortunate trade for Carpenter put him off the roster. Wasn't anything Sutter could do about it. If you want, we could say that we replaced Stone with Meloche and Guddy with Weeger. I mean we could still sign Stone to an AHL contract if nobody picks him up. Or he's waiver fodder should he sign in the NHL. No big deal. Good soldier. I am interested to see what BT does in the next 2 weeks. Two RFA's (not including Rozie) to deal with to ensure we don't end up in arbitration. No reason to not get them signed. I mean sure, get a sense of what the new guys will need next year to have a full view of the cap, but you can't wait on them signing to deal with the RFA's.
  6. Lot's of criminals are found not guilty. The disturbing thing is there was enough grounds to charge him. Innocent and not guilty don't mean the same thing. Anyway, beyond the obvious, he isn't exactly a player that showed he was a awesome player.
  7. The examples were players that "dreamed" of playing for CGY. Taylor Hall with his PJ's. LOL. The big picture is that not every player born or raised in a particular city ends up ever playing there. If that was true, we would be stacked. Arizona would have Matthews and Tkachuk. Okay, so one of those is possible soon enough. It's a gamble but so is drafting or signing any player without them taking a polygraph. Even then, they probably convince themselves that they want to be here. It was painfully obvious that a retool was necessary after two guys bolted. If all we got from Tkachuk was Necas, a top prospect and a pick, then that's a bigger risk. He's a piece you add to a good team, not a starting point. Flames defense. Bigger and deeper than last year. Can't keep em all, so something comes of that. BT always says that you build the team in the summer, so somethings coming. Unlike some players, I doubt you see either of the new guys refusing to have negotiations during the season.
  8. Great predictions. 50% chance of being right on Hubie. But some simple facts required. Unless we are a terrible organization, why won't two pending UFA's sign for really good offers? To test UFA market and end where only Buffalo can afford to match the offer? Johnny said the same thing a few years back that Hubie said about his "desired" team. Wouldn't it be cool to someday play for the team I grew up around. Taylor Hall, Kale Makar, Point all have dreamed of that. The GM that got bitten by false narratives this season and summer is going to walk these two to FA? You expect it to be the case because you want to justify your narrative. It's a theme.
  9. No offence, but we all had combos we were looking to get. No team ever even came close to that or we would have jumped. No Hischier or Thomas was on the table. Necas was mentioned, but as the big piece talked about. People here are very good at puting together packages, but GM's never seem to make those offers. Now, if Tkachuk and Gaudreau were offered as a package, and both had one year left, I wonder how much better a return would have come back. Tkachuk by himself is a very good player but not even worth a top 3 C. A 200 point pair may have been that plus plus.
  10. I am quite excited with the one or two things we have done this season. Looking forward to the team that comes out of camp. As well as the prospects tourney in BC. And we may have a couple guys in the WJC this wummer. Hate to be stuck inside to watch hockey in August.
  11. I mean they can carry 8D depending on how they finish the summer signings and cap left over, but the two that stand out are Valimaki and Mackey. Both would get claimed. Meloche is the type that gets picked up in the end of pre-season rash of waived players. Teams like ARI are looking for a bargain contract to take in. These are players that may not even have considered signing in Zona. Other teams wll have injuries to the top 6 and need an extra. Claiming a waiver guy to replace a short term injury is a no-brainer. Valimaki may be a more targeted claim. Easily the best guy waived. Extra $300k abive the amount that could be stowed in the AHL and is NHL sized.
  12. What I have read elsewhere reminds me of a Zary type. Nothing wrong with that. He's also excited to come here. And he won't have to live in the armpit of California and need to flash the right gang signs.
  13. You notice he is only saing this now. This is for the fans and trying to win over the ones not as excited about the team. Trash your enemy. Whip up the fans. He will shut up and play once the season starts. He will be respectful then at any pressers. Unfortunately, I think the fans are in for a bit of a letdown. They may enjoy the occasional between the legs goal, but they will tire of the antics that produce nothing. Gudas will now have to be his body guard. Or maybe Bennett has to back him up. Gonna be a long season for those guys.
  14. Another thread devolving into a "shoulda got" or "won't sign" thread. I get some are worried about re-signings or the lack of picks for the future, the bottom line is that the defense is better today that it was the end of last season. Futures for a valuable asset are nice, but most would be 3-5 years away from showing that they are even NHL players. The tendency to play a pick in his draft year shows a lot of desperation or the player was too good in camp to go back to junior. Gaudreau was a special player but was back in college for years before he played a single game. Tkachuk was fine in his first season, mostly because he already was NHL sized (weight) but he never was a Calder candidate. We have some interesting decisions to make. 7 guys were NHL regulars last season. 2 prospects and 1 guy signed to be able to go to the AHL. We may end up trading one of our regulars to facilitate depth elsewhere or we may trade prospect D to maximize asset value over losing them to waivers. It's a tough call. We have 5 guys that played here so we know what they can do. Meloche is a known quantity in the NHL and seeing how he fits the team in camp is critical. Not the worst thing in the world if he's not in the top 6. Low risk.
  15. Here's what he brings in case we end up signing him. Yeah right.
  16. I know it puts a team in a worse bargaining position to try to move out cap, but so many teams have done it, it shouldn't really be a difficult thing. Regardless of his signing or not, every team knows any trades they do will be for Kadri. I haven't heard word one about COL making any moves, the same way I haven't heard about NYI. I stand to be corrected of course.
  17. Crazy trade.... Nolan Patrick + Nick Roy for Valiamki + Duehr They lose one healthy forward, but gain a guy that can go through waivers. And they get a 7th D-man. Allows them to manage the cap a bit getting rid of a possible $3M for Roy. Nolan doesn't fit since they got Eichel and was injured.
  18. I like both players. I would probably be keen enough to Offer Valimaki + Dube for Crouse. 4M going the other way and at worst we bridge him for 3M. Roy can't be fair market value going out.
  19. Bishop announced his retirement in December. It's a weird situation no doubt. But they do manage to retain the cap hit/LTIR. At least that's the way I read it.
  20. Please not the backup goalie.
  21. Wasn't trying to be mean, just that I am against paying anything meaningful to take Lucic. We can get back 4M of cap by buying out Monahan if need be, assuming he wants a fresh start and sign wherever he wants. Not my favorite concept either. I just thinnk that Vegas is a victim and we shouldn't help them out. We ca toss them an anchor or a lesser return. They gave away Patches for nothing.
  22. Every year players without term are traded at TDL. Here's some recent ones: MARCH 21: Colorado Avalanche acquire forward Artturi Lehkonen from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Justin Barron and a second-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. MARCH 21: Minnesota Wild acquire goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a conditional first-round pick in the 2022 Draft. MARCH 20: Toronto Maple Leafs acquire defenseman Mark Giordano and forward Colin Blackwell from the Seattle Kraken in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, a second-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. MARCH 19: Florida Panthers acquire forwards Claude Giroux, Connor Bunnaman and German Rubtsov, and a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Owen Tippett, a first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft or 2025 NHL Draft, and a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. MARCH 19: Boston Bruins acquire defenseman Hampus Lindholm from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defensemen John Moore and Urho Vaakanainen and three NHL Draft picks. MARCH 18: Tampa Bay Lightning acquire forward Brandon Hagel, fourth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft and and a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forwards Boris Katchouk, Taylor Raddysh and two conditional first-round picks. MARCH 16: Florida Panthers acquire defenseman Ben Chiarot from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward prospect Ty Smilanic, a first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, and a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. That's just this year and the biggest returns. No 115 point players there. Seriously, you are comparing the return on Iggy by a lame GM?
  23. Blech. I have no interest in that deal at all. Giving up a 1st to get rid of Lucic. I would sit him rather than pay that. The 2nd deal is even more suspect. I get that Roy has value, but Vegas is in trouble. Yes they have Weber's LTIR but they also only have 9F signed. They have several guy on IR that likely are back, such as Patrick, Brossoit, Hague. I'm not giving up a top prospect top help them out of a jamb. At most a mid round pick or a lesser D or lesser prospect. Or future considerations.
  24. The point is we traded one expiring asset that didn't want to be here for two very valuable assets. Even if they don't sign, we likely get a haul greater than what we were seeing for Tkachuk.
