  1. I think they might have been trying to rade him at the draft to improve. Now that they are looking past Gaudreau, they won't want to trade him for a D. If he's traded, it's for a prospect/pick so they can use the cash savings and sign Kadri. They have 11M with Dobson and Romanov looking for raises. Sending them a D doesn't really improve scoring. And the difference between Kyl and Beau is closer to a million.
  2. You mean this? Chychrun-Weeger Hanifin-Andersson Zadorov-Tanev We have 10 D, why not trade one of them for a more expensive D? If you said Kylington, Dube, Zary and our 2024 1st for Barzal, I might be a little more interested.
  3. Difference being that in 2020/21 we waived Kylington and Beau was on the end of his 2nd deal. Are you saying they are low on him because they are looking to trade him? That may simply be to make room for Kadri.
  4. He's been married for a year. He would have signed last year if they had come through with a decent enough offer. They were house shopping last year. He said basically that. What changed between last year and this year? Covid and pregnancy. I get that you don't need to have a vax to travel in Canada now, but you can't travel between the two countries easily without it. You know that he is vaxed and his wife is likely too, prior to pregnancy. But we may get to a point this fall, where you need to be up to date and your kids "may" need to be vaxed to travel. This isn't some speech about anti vax, just recognizing that things chance and what is relatively easy now could go back to 2020 rules. Would you want to be stuck without your family able to visit with a newborne on the way? And his wife is likely unable to travel by plane in the very near future, if not now.
  5. Oh, I agree. This year's cap is not impacted by their deals, but BT kinda likes to know what he will be spending next year. Most trades he will look at or any impactful UFA, will be 2 year deals at least. Before MT and JG were dealt, he had no idea what he do to improve the team.
  6. Beau is a playoff performer. I don't know this for a fact, but they seem to be pretty high on him. Drafted him, brought him in. Signed him to a pretty decent raise last year. Plays top line. I don't know that you get a top line LW for a 2nd pairing D that has one NHL real season.
  7. Well, we should at least commit to him what we were prepared to commit to Gaudreau. The other thing he and Weegs talked about was coming to a team that is hungry to win a cup. FLA is as well, but they just threw out two guys that were part of their last cup run. Weeger's family seems pumped. I wasn't reading too much into comments 48 hours after a surprise trade. They obviously want to get here and meet people and get ready. I didn't get the sense that they would wait to mid season to sign. But again, can't really read anything into it.
  8. One signed a 3 year deal because he wasn't sure. He also didn't lie when he said he would sign a long term deal with he Flames. Just happened to be a sign and trade deal. Gaudreau was more cryptic. "If Tree (general manager Brad Treliving) and the owners are happy with the way I've played, it's something we can figure out," Gaudreau said, according to SN Pat Steinberg "I would love to do that. I love the city. I don't think I've ever once said I don't want to be here." With Gaudreau, the decision may have been impacted between May and July 13th, since COVID kinda starting creeping up everywhere. The testing pause, testing again, must use ArriveCan app does impact him and his family, should he or they want to visit short term.
  9. WTF dude. We just trade for him, welcome him to the team, talk about signing him long term and you want to ship him out 48 hours after the trade? Say good-bye to Hubie if you do that kind of thing. Richard move. I get your point, but it's too late now for it. If we wait to TDL, Ottawa will not do it. IF Sanderson is going to play in the NHL, Ottawa will treat him with kid gloves. Long term prospect.
  10. I make this suggestion based on moving Monahan and Lucic either retiring or being moved. Kylington and Dube used to get Necas.... Huberdeau-Lindholm-Toffoli Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman Pelletier-Statsny-Necas Rooney-Ruzicka-Lewis *(Kylington-Rooney/Ruzicka-Lewis) Weeger-Ras Hanifin-Tanev Zadorov-Meloche Mackey-Valimaki Bit of a waste to keep up 2 extra D-men, but unless we get an interesting trade offer, we lose too much experienced depth. * If we were willing to use Kylington as a winger, we could have Ruzie being the extra F and Rooney sliding over to C. That would mean trading Valimaki + Dube for Necas. That might be a better scenario anyway.
  11. The minor suggestion I have is move Kylington to the wing. He has the skating and maybe if he wasn't just carrying the puck he would score more as a winger. Better than just shipping him off by himself for a nothing return. Perhaps he has more value than we give him credit for.
  12. Sutter doesn't care what Kylington makes. He was given pretty hard minutes the entire year, and while he lost some PP time, he didn't really lose his spot. I'm sure BT will ask his opinion of Kylington vs Mackey vs Hanifin before he makes a trade. Hanifin is more top 4 than Kylington is RIGHT NOW. But the question is whether there is any improvement left in his game. Hanifin is a finished product. Kylington may not be. Bear for Foegele was a bad trade for both teams. Bear was not set up to play with good D-men. Foegele was not set up to play on a team that only passes to a couple of guys. I would trade either Hanifin or Kylington for a top 6 C if one was available. May have to add in Dube to get it done. I do think that some GM's see Kylington as untapped potential. They may not want to give the value they think he is. With CAR, I somehow doubt Necas was the top player they were offering. I suspect (as you pointed out) that it included another big piece. If we could do Kylington + Dube for Necas, I would call it a day. Maybe that's a slight overpayment, but Necas could take the 2C or 3RW spot. Slightly better fit than Dube.
  13. Nope. Monahan wasn't even capable of playing on the PP this year. We would be better off with Statsny than Monahan. And I was a big Monahan fan. Just don't see it anymore.
  14. Weeger is RHS but played a lot of LD. Kuz is a LHS but plays a lot of RD. Weeger could move to RD on the top pair and we could move Ras to 2nd pair. No slight to anyone, just have two top LD to play with them. We are still fairly young on D. Unfortunately, there isn't much appetite to trades of a LD for a RD. You have to draft those puppies. We might be forced to drop Tanev to the 3rd pairing and bring in Poirier. Or we groom Valimaki or Mackey to take over from Hanifin.
  15. If he like skiing or the great outdoors, then Calgary is a decent place to be. Capital region has decent lakes etc., but whatever. Give him top minutes and he might really like the team and the outlook. At least we can afford him. Both him and Hubie are a little older, so it's not the same as what Tkachuk wanted in a city. Not exactly the South Beach lifestyle, but give Hubie the big raise and he can afford to summer whereever he wants. Skiing at Banff or Whistler. Boating and fishing in BC interior.
  16. Yes, just thinking they may not be on the Flames this year. Pelletier for sure has a chance. I mentioned Statsny because that guy knows how to score.
  17. Have you listened to him? By the way, I was referring to him having someone to talk in French to. Florida is the most popular destination for Quebecers.
  18. We need to be bringing in a French Canadian for Hubie. Alberta isn't exactly a bilingual province. Statsny? He's from Quebec City.
  19. Well, I think you did a good job of identifying some options. He has to go to a place with younger talent. He's a leader in the room, in a soft spoken manner.
  20. Texier might be a fit. Not expensive for them, but he's a pending RFA. Monnet at 50% and we get Texier. Costs them about 1.5M more in cap. Wishful thinking I guess. Monahan may have been an issue with Gaudreau's wife. But that was the old days.
  21. Derek Wills @Fan960Wills · 1h Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar just told us that they’d be open to signing long-term with #Flames. Huberdeau said his agent has already spoken with Brad Treliving.
  22. Would it really matter to him? It's one year and he has the chance to sign anywhere next summer. Besides, the alternatives are staying here and playing a grit role.
  23. Do you remember when we got a new guy in and he had to sit next to a stall on a folding chair? As far as the arena, do you enjoy walking up to the PL seats? The old arena in Arizona was 10x better. The Dome is an icon, but few teams build icons anymore. The ice has been bad for years it seems. EDM got away with it because they had carte blanche and city money to spend. I think a lot of what Cross was talking about though was not having modern training facilities.
  24. For sure. He was upset about the lockdown when his grandfather died and about not seeing family for a long time. This fall is just as unknown as the North division year. Although Bettman won't be happy to have another limited play season, he doesn't control the government. Until we get the arena situation sorted out, we need to be competitive in play to attract UFA's or keep the ones we have.
  25. There was a quote I read... "I'm excited to be a Flame and excited to meet the guys. I'm open to stay in Calgary a long time". This was quoted by SN.
