  1. If the asking price is top F, premium prospect and a 1st, why are we taking a good D, a premium prospect and a 1st. You look at a player like Lundell and you see the potential. Tomasino looks to be more like a Mangiapane. Is that even premium? I think if STL offers that package, just do it. We get one for one and are slightly worse in offense. But by himself, he can generate decent numbers. Set him up with the right players and look out.
  2. Ok, so if it's Thomas then the deal gets smaller. Thomas + Neighbours + 2nd. Or they dump a contract and it stays a 1st. TBH, it doesn't work unless they dump at least Krug. Next year, the salarties are similal but this year Thomas on the end of his bargain deal. Honestly, I think we are reaching a bit. It's what we should ask for, but is it a move they make? Does Neighbours project to be a top 6 LW? I think they have Bolduc that seems further ahead. Tkachuk gives them an edge they didn't have.
  3. Heard it differently. It was 2 OA, plus Holtz
  4. It's a fair thing to say. Came out of the the MJ Warriors and ECHL/AHL. Had a decent 15 games to start his NHL career. Breakout season last year. Nothing in the 4 game sweep.
  5. The other choice would be Granlund (not the one we used to have LOL) + Fabbro. Granlund is more of a playmaker so that might work out. Mange-Lindy-Granlund Jeannot-Backlund-Coleman Pelletier-Rozie-Toffoli 4th line Askarov would possibly replace Markstrom in 3 years. But Marky has a full NMC for 4. Not sure this is the best we can do to improve OUR team.
  6. Heard this one mentioned: Johansen, Jeannot, Askarov/Ingram, and their 2023 first-round pick I don't get the Ingram vs Askarov option though. One of these two is not like the other. Wolf had far superior number to Ingram in the AHL. Not sure I like the Johansen add. He's turning 30 and is paid $8M. It sounds more like a cap dump. I also have to wonder if Jeannot is a flash in the pan.
  7. Was just asking if sign and trade was an option. If he gets to the 11th without a deal in place, then he has a one year deal. Is that really ideal for him?
  8. They normally are the first in and last out in the trades they win. Buffalo waited them out and got what they wanted out of Vegas. Ottawa made a choice in the Stone package.
  9. I have been thinking about the sign and trade option. August 11th is coming soon. It perhaps makes him more marketable to more teams, if they do it for a reasonable deal. But I don't know why Tkachuk would want to do that. Could end up in Buffalo for 8 years. Thoughts?
  10. I think the discussion was something like starting with Bratt and a 1st. Debbies would prefer to keep Bratt and Hughes. I think if it comes down to it, they know they have to outbid. Hischier + 1st. Realistically, it's a >10th overall pick. Possibly as bad as 20's. We get that offer and call it a day. Maybe they toss in Severson, since he's likely just a TDL trade. If so, then we have a trade piece or a better 2nd pairing D. Re-sign him immediately or trade him at TDL.
  11. I can't guess what the return will be. You don't go from building a contender (close or not is not the issue) to being in a rebuild in the space of a month. Not saying we should or shouldn't, just that I don't see it. A sign and trade has risks for Tkachuk. The leverage is that Tkachuk is a top player in this league so teams will be calling about him. This isn't an Eichel situation where a player was broken and might heal, and you end up with an insured incapable player.
  12. Sportsnet Stats @SNstats ยท 34m No team in #NHL history has had 2 players each record 100+ points in a season, then have neither of those players play for them in the following season.
  13. It's either a rebuild trade or it isn't. If it isn't then we will load up elsewhere. That's just the way it is. You don't rebuild, you are trying to win the cup. In 2 years or less. Whether Kadri moves the needle towards a cup after losing those two players or not, it's not lotto territory. We are only losing one 3rd pairing D from the backend and have the same G's. Expect a dropoff in scoring by at least 40 goals, but some of those are replaced by the pieces coming in. Unless it's a rebuild.
  14. Send him out of the conference for sures. Don't want to see him back with the between the legs goals on Marky. Maybe Zaddy will flatten him in the crease.
  15. I know it's silly to suggest this, but what are the odds he stays and signs for 5 years or less. Not long term. The stories get changed from the original source, and I try to parse the meaning out of it. Anyway, the waiting game is upon us. Worse than waiting for Gaudreau to re-sign, since it's where is he going and what are we getting. As a Flames fan that has seen drafts come and go and trades causing me to SMH, I am prepping to be disappointed. As a fan in general, I am excited at the possible deals.
  16. Huh? They have 23, 24 and 25 1sts.
  17. Here's an interesting thought. If the CBJ were able to trade for Tkachuk, they suddenly have a top pair that has chemistry. They would need to include Laine, but a sign and trade needed perhaps. Laine, a top prospect and a 1st. Seems steep, but this is about building a team. Laine was a lot less productive in CBJ. The adds make up for that. Why does Tkachuk go there? To play with Gaudreau.
  18. I don't think it's an issue with being a Mr. Nice Guy. Past performance of the team, attempts to make it better, failing in the playoffs, the city and rabid fans, the economy, the pandemic, and circumstance that happened all play a part. All would have issues getting these two done this year. Maybe some past dealings had an impact, but it's also a business.
  19. First off, Kyrou is Canadian. If he's worth it, he gets a good extension. And we negotiate that as soon as possible. He won't be able to walk an arbitration 1 year deal right to UFA. Second, the only way Tarasenko is in the mix is a cap dump and we are compensated accordingly. He is an expiring contract that would have value to a contender or to a team where he will sign. Think prospects and picks coming back. We can even retain salary to make it work. That's the only way it works. But also remember, he is younger than Backlund and Kadri. He has about 3 good years left at the least. But I do agree that STL is the least attractive to us due to their cap issues. They don't need Tkachuk to be a contender. They would like him. But we don't go out of our way to make them better, unless they pay dearly.
  20. I didn't read his proposal correctly. I wouldn't do cap dumps for Tkachuk
  21. Tkachuk's arbitration is August 11th. Mange is August 5th. Kylington is August 11th. Phillips is July 30th.
  22. Listening to a Devils podcast. They were discussing a trade with NJ. Hughes is really the only one off the tables. They seem to think that the 2023 1st is absolute unless it's Hischier on the table. Obviously, Nico is my preference for a player coming.
  23. Heard Marner straight up as well. Nylander would be a complete fail on our side.
  24. If we are looking for a draft pick in 2023, then we should be dealing with NJ. They seem to be moving on from Severson. If we aske for Mercer, Severson and a 1st, would that be reasonable? Or should we just be asking only for Hischier.
  25. I think the initial shock has worn off. There may be other reason why BT is at fault but I doubt we ever know those. He is taken to task (rightly so) for bad trades and poor decisions on drafts. His tenure has success and failures. I don't think the present situation is on him. But fans have a right to know that we have a plan, whether rebuild, retool or continue. Not knowing that is causing a lot of questioning.
