  1. I agree he wasent consistent but hes started to turn things around. I think the flames are trying to lose now whichever way you slice it, because ortio has been better then hiller or backstrom. There is little chance he gets stockton into the playoffs as im pretty sure they are eliminated. I dont get it.
  2. Well I dont think we are going to go out into free agency and sign a big goalie. SO unless we make a trade for a guy like andersen we will more then likely have ramo, orito, gillies and maybe this kid lyon competing for jobs next year.
  3. Why no? I dont think ortio has been bad at all, hes been consistent in the second half of the season for the most part, even last night agianst LA he looked good. Ramo was doing just fine for the stretch of games he played before he got hurt, actually he was very consistent. A tandem of ramo and ortio would not be as bad as you think in my opinion.
  4. I wonder if a pairing of Lyon and ortio would be able to handle the load together next season, if lyon is actually NHL ready. I dont think macdonald goes pro unless they decide to play him in the ECHL. Although I would probably bring a veteran goalie to camp such as ramo to run against lyon/ortio to see who is most ready for the NHL next year. I dont know if that will possible because Ramo will be looking for term in his contract I would assume, but it would probably be the best case scenario.
  5. Hmm could be an interesting addition. I dont know anything about the kid, but his gaa and save pct look great. Im not sure yale is a great hockey team so they are some pretty good numbers.
  6. Seems to me clubs are so hestitant to draft goalies that gems always slip through. Not saying he will be the next coming of price or kipper, but he could be a good one for going undrafted.
  7. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=89731 Jig I give you drew doughty. I dont see why brodie has to score a ton of goals to be a top tier D man, Yes he never has exaclty 4 goals in a season, but look around the league top tier D men dont have to score a ton of goals that is never their job. IF I have a pairing of brodie and hamilton as my top pairing im not worried as I think hamilton will score plenty of goals for the two of them. DId I mention the hamilton/brodie pairing was pretty dahm good last night?
  8. Its really the only course of action that makes sense. Last season we screwed it up by having 3 goalies, and really only giving two of them an opportunity. If we bring in ortio and someone else to compete for the job, I would love to see grubauer, halak, varlamov etc compete with ortio in training camp.
  9. Even if ortio finishes the season strong, I wouldnt put all my eggs in one basket hoping hes going to be a solid starter next year. I would bring a veteran goalie to tandem with ortio at the very least.
  10. I wonder how that looks on the schedule. Ortio Ortio Ortio...hmm..
  11. I honestly wouldnt be that suprised if our goalies next year were ramo and ortio, if they can play consistently as ramo was doing before the injury and ortio has been doing we will have league average goaltending.
  12. Ya I posted about this in the GDT, it's just ridiculous this loyalty to hiller.
  13. I don't buy this bulk that he has a schedule rofl but I like this thread idea you could just post hiller and you would win 90% of the time.
  14. I think BH got lucky last year and this year is just the results of the same mistakes. I hope BH is gone this summer and the team moves forward with someone else. I don't see why he's rolling with hiller, Ortio has been good for the most part in his games recently except the meltdown in Ottawa. The only difference being Ortio is a young goalie and hiller is a veteran.
  15. I really don't see why we wouldn't make the trade, I don't see Anaheim turning us down. Yes I know division rivals and all, but if we give them a reasonable offer it looks better for both sides to get a trade done.
  16. You're right we should have held onto Jones for no reason, just because the return was only a 6th round pick.
  17. I'm not sure why you think kylington is struggling, most of the reviews I've heard on his play have him doing very well, better on the offensive side but learning the game and adapting as an 18 year old will. Andersson is only overage by a year and he plays on a good team in Barrie, but is still doing well. I'm more confused by your statement in gio, are you expecting the flames to be contenders 7 or 8 years from now? Why does he have to be a freak like lidstrom to be good at 35 when the flames will be contending. He's showing no signs of slowing down, and im not sure why the guy in the best shape on team is suddenly going to fall apart in the next year or two. To be honest you are kinda contradicting yourself by saying kylington and andersson won't be ready but gio will be old. Our team will be more then fine with the D we have even if wotherspoon, kulak, nakladal or other similar players fill the bottom 3 spots. The only need we have at this time is someone to play with hammy, unless they split up the brodano pairing, in which case we need another legit top 4 guy not named Russell.
  18. I'd rather have Hamilton, my post was directed at jigallow saying we couldn't have drafted impact players with the picks we traded.
  19. I'm not following why you think gio won't be here for a cup....we aren't 10-15 years away from winning here, our captain is not going to retire suddenly this offseason. Unless there is some career ending injury that hits gio, I don't see him retiring anytime soon. Brodie at 25 is still a young player, I would consider him part of the youth movement. It almost sounds to me like your definition of a rebuild is having every player in his early 20s with one veteran to lead the way and only then are you successful. Kylington and andersson are struggling? In what way? One of them broke into the AHL at 18 and is doing well at that level, the other guy is dominating the OHL offensively as a dman, but might have some weight to lose. Also in regards to the picks we traded for Hamilton, the 1st round pick we could have got barzal, as a player that comes to mind as ending up an impact player at this time. We really don't know how any of those picks could turn out because Boston made some odd picks.
  20. And deeds was telling you that you have no clue what he is. He could end up being just as impactful as the other players drafted around him. Insulting someone doesn't make your point anymore valid.
  21. ... as kehatch said im not sure how to take that post. I dont see how you can see brodie as sorta there. Prospect wise we have loads of players under 25 worth mentioning as well.
  22. I wouldnt agree with your statement of this. If you watch the world juniors and if you look at the NHL the number of "skilled" players is not that different. Comparison one stamkos to ovechkin, yes ovechkin has scored more then stamkos but I could go down the list and find similar canadians for every russian. That way of thinking might have been the way of thinking 30 years ago, but the gap between the two is non existent now. I would say the problem was always that everyone viewed europeans as lazy players who couldnt play a tough game. Although on that note you can find canadian players who are lazy and dont play a tough game.
  23. Well the real question is if for some reason the puck goes through the inflatable is that considered a goal? or how much in costs are we looking at for replacing the inflatable multiple times a season...
  24. The worst part is people saying its the defence at fault for these goals, could they be better on some plays? sure, but at the same time your goalie has to make a save once in a while. When the entire league knows just shoot high on the guy and you will score, you have a problem. The graphic they had up the other night vs Vancouver was pretty telling, hiller is at 80% save percentage anywhere in the middle of the ice while the league average I think was 92%? thats beyond terrible.
  25. Ya it looks like he struggled a bit in a couple games but 9 goals on 50 shots other then that it doesnt look so bad. I would agree that he needs more time but I think TD might be right in that he could come back from the injury very strong and things could really start looking up for him.
