  1. I dont know bout that, I think the team in front of him struggled to start the season. Also his stats tell me that he wasent playing all that bad, 2 SO but 14 GA with a .920 sv % tells me he was facing alot of shots in the games where they did score. Also he does have the best stats of all the goalies that have played for stockton this season.
  2. Haha that would be a dream, it's not that far our of the realm of possibility. Although we may have to look at a different top 4 dman, I'm just not sure who.
  3. I'm hoping the flames can get on the big Finnish kids to play the right side and then from there we go on looking for a goalie like Anderson or maybe a free agent as we will have the money to spare. I think depending on where we draft our top 6 forward or top 4 d man problem will most definitely be solved.
  4. Or we could just play 6 players at all times with no tendy, just have Russell transition to goalie when we are in our own end. We try to block so many shots anyways might as well have 6 players doing it instead of 5.
  5. I disagree with that, guess it depends whether you look at potential, raw talent, etc though. For example I would say jon gillies is better, and has more potential then a couple goalies on that list. I dont see how kylington for example doesnt make it onto his list, hes an 18 year old d man playing in the ahl, and doing pretty good, not great but good. Just two examples and its not about being biased or a homer, I can agree with alot of players on that list being there.
  6. I wouldnt agree with that. Top end talent is generally playing NHL or they arent. Let me expand on this I think you could say high end offensive talent is something we lack, but on that note generally the players on that list are not strong enough, not defensivelly sound enough, etc to be a NHL level pro. I wouldnt argue that every player off that list is a high end talent not even close. Did I mention craig button is not great at ranking players? I can see what youre saying but if a player isent going to at least put some effort in on defence hes not making the NHL. Simply having offensive upside and scoring goals is not enough anymore.
  7. Where is the progression with baer? Hes still the same player he was here hes just been given different minutes to work with. Brossoit is a goalie who has gotten older, and barely played at all in our system before he got traded. Im not sure where you are going with the other players, have a bad start to the year for some of them doesnt mean they are regressing. Klimchuk is a first year pro along with kylington, Ortio is a goalie which is completely about finding consistency. The only player I would agree with is sieloff, mostly because injuries set him back in his devolpment and hes never really found his way.
  8. why are you so many people down on our devolopment? Ferland, Jooris, brodie, granlund, bouma all played in significant time in the AHL, and for the most part are all turning into competent NHLers. Monahan could end up being the best player out of his draft year, same with bennett. Hickey, kylington and rasmus andersson could all end up being steals in the past couple years of drafting. Just as some examples.
  9. I wouldnt really consider a 6 year deal a bridge deal, but the flames will pay based on what brodie will be in 2020, vice what 2021 if they gave him an extra year or two?
  10. I dont think RFAs have as much negotiating ability as you seem to be putting out there. They can basically say they wont sign then they wont play, or they can have their agent try and get an offer sheet. I dont think we should low ball them by millions of dollars, but I think looking at the rest of young talent on this team and the captains deal, I dont think they will get signed to ridiculous contracts. I would say 5.5 million being the low end to 6.5 million being the high end, but im leaning more towards maybe matching 8 year deals at a 6 million aav.
  11. Are you really trying that hard to find fault in his game? Dont like him that much? As kehatch said and I said earlier, its not exactly an easy play no matter which way you slice it. Ramo had a stellar game.
  12. very similar in a way to one of the macdonald goals in that game against the US. Its very difficult to track the puck when it goes fof the boards behind you, and for it to shoot out right onto someones stick well thats that.
  13. What do you mean I need to look closer? it seems pretty clear that hamilton is better without russell then with, and russell is better with hamilton then without, even if you take half the ice time.
  14. After every game it seems that I read on flames nation that hamiltons numbers with russell are bad in terms of advanced stats, and the eye test tells me that they arent doing great together. Also im aware that russells blocking shots is going to skew those numbers a bit but still, I cant stand russells d zone play. My question is what are everyones feeling on the russell/wideman pairing that seems to get so many minutes together on the pk, ev etc. Ari from flames nation suggested trading wideman or russell and bringing up kulak to play with hamilton, I dont agree with that. But, we do need to find someone to play that left side with hamilton, personally either id like to see gio play with wideman and brodie with hamilton, while russell takes third pairing minutes. In a perfect world though I would see us trading for someone else or maybe tspoon is ready to take those minutes by the end of season. Hmm thoughts?
  15. I wasent trying to suggest that he has no value. But being able to get rid of his contract, his NTC and all that, even for the player he is in my opinion depending on the deal would be awesome. I wouldnt be suggesting wideman for bernier straight up, but it would be part of the deal that would need to happen to take on berniers money in my opinion. If we were going to trade for bernier I would be wanting to lose one of our D men, and get something else back on top of bernier.
  16. JVR would make more sense to me then bernier, we have a need and he would fill it with ease. Id love to see what he could do playing behind gaudreau on the second line tbh. Although dependign what the deal was I wouldnt say no to taking bernier. IF bernier was part of a larger deal where we got rid of say wideman, I wouldnt be against that.
  17. ya and for some reason BH still feels the need to play wideman/russell on the pp and pk more then hamilton. Literally the oddest coaching decision.
  18. Im not sure what the problem is with macdonald, the kid is doing ok a very poor team in the QJMHL which is a poor league defensivel. I am not worried until we look at this in a few years and see what happens. As we all know goalies are complete voodoo( as you can see with many goalies), and playing for team canada at the world juniors could mean macdonald is great or doesnt amount to anything, thats how weird goalies are. If in a few years we are looking at it and theres a big difference, I still cant be upset with the scouts. I really doubt it was as simple as we are going to beat the system and draft macdonald, they must have seen something in macdonald but not demko.
  19. oh true. I was just stating that last year when they missed their man or what have you goaltending more then not covered them off.
  20. Hillers save % is .856 this season while ramos was what .868 up until this recent run or something like that. If you compare that to last season at .918 for hiller and .912 for ramo you are talking about what 5 to 6% of shots going in vs being saves. If a player shoots at 10% vs 15-16% thats a big difference. I would argue that their overall play has not changed that much, but the goaltending has made them look "worse".
  21. The numbers never really pointed to wideman/russell being a good pairing, blocking alot of shots and having better goaltending last season just saved them from some goals. This season our goaltending is below average which makes their pairing look that much worse. Personally until we stop playing defence so passively and throwing our bodies at shots we are going to struggle in our own zone. Below average goaltending doesnt help this issue.
  22. Lmao maybe we should have offered him 60 million dollars over 8 years
  23. Ive said it before on the forums when your forwards fly the zone looking for that stretch pass, and the other team forechecks correctly it makes it difficult on your D, leading to turnovers which leads you to getting hemmed in your own zone. Don cherry probably has a heart attack watching the flames throw the puck up the boards and half the time the winger isent there but hes out at the red line, the way we are playing needs to change. The problem ultimately is BH seems dead set on continuing to play this way whenour D zone coverage is bad, our breakout is bad and we really spend more time in our own zone every night based on systems alone.
  24. I would agree its more the coaching then the D. Also I would say of our top 4 russell is the only one who doesnt belong there, the problem really is that wideman/russell play too many minutes in a night in all situations, and with the way our forwards play they are gunna struggle more and more.
  25. Thats true, and vlasic made a great play on the puck even though hudler was all over him, could have taken the stick better though. I didnt like the way russell backed off so much on the play or how big hillers five hole was.
