  1. I think everyone needs to get over the nak thing as well, this guy didnt sign till a day before training camp. Is he good depth? yes, was he going to make a huge difference to our D corp, no he was not.
  2. At point 4, you dont need elliot to contribute to a cup, you need him to provide solid goaltending so the team in front of him can learn to win hockey games and stay in hockey games longer then the puck drop like say ortio allowed. At point 5, how is the defence inadequate? Every top analyst, and many scouts are on the record saying the flames have one of the best D corps in the league, and its only going to get better. Yes wideman, smid etc are overpriced, that doesnt make it inadequate. Also a lack of a development plan? you mean putting him in a position to be the guy in stockton is a lack of a plan? Why are they casting parsons away? I swear you come up with ridiculous arguments just to be the devils advocate.
  3. The only person you listed was JSG, hes the only one whos had an NHL career after leaving the flames that was successful in any way. Whats there to disagree on? the stats are the stats, and if you were right im pretty sure an NHL team would have signed these so called gems by now. I really doubt you are so right about ortio, and every NHL team just doesnt see what you see. As others have said if he was an NHL backup/AHL starter, with the upside you seem to think he has someone would have signed him to an NHL Deal. Why do the flames want the brossoit trade back? Brossoit hasent done anything.
  4. Roman cervenka must be good to, he was the leading scorer in the top czech league last year, we probably made a mistake there. You said ortio is playing on the top team in SHL, but in such a lesser league hes got a .922 save percentage on the top team and 2 wins 2 losses, I wouldnt be praising anything hes doing over there. Leland irving didnt have great stats in the AHL last year, so whose door is he knocking on. danny taylor didnt look great in the czech league last year, but is doing well at the beginning of this year in the KHL at 30 years old, I would say the odds of him coming back to the NHL are small, but I wouldnt say letting him go was a mistake. Laurent brossoit had a good year last year in the AHL, but I wouldnt exactly call him a world beater yet, he got lit up last season when he came up to the NHL, and they sent him back down to get more time in the AAA this year. reto berra was put on waivers, and is playing in the AHL for florida...im not sure where you are going with him. GIve me a break.
  5. I dont think either game where johnson got roasted was bad playing on his part, it almost looked like he had some bad looks and bad bounces that really took the game from him. We arent talking bout similar situation to ramo in my opinion, and as carty said the D was terrible last night.
  6. The only time the flames have been horrid defensively was last night, the rest of the preseason there has been a big change in the way they have played defense. Oh and as I said above bad goaltending can make a good defense look bad, as cross pointed out the stats have sure changed in the preseason even tho you havent noticed a change.
  7. Actually montreal doesnt really have that good of a D corp, ours is better. But I will agree that good defense can make a goaltender look good, but the inverse is true that a bad goaltender can make a good defense look bad. Our defense zone coverage last year was bad along with our goaltending being bad, it had nothing to do with the players on our defense being bad.
  8. No I know you said that, I was just quoting your point in the discussion. i dont see the point either
  9. I think mackinnon is a good player, but mony has been better off playing with better linemates as in JH, I think that for sure helps. I wouldnt trade JH for mackinnon, I dont see why you would. Bennett is going to be a top flight center in the NHL and considering he missed a whole year of development, hes doing pretty well for himself in this preseason(not that the preseason is the end all be all.
  10. The SHL is not a considerably better league then the AHL, not in any way. Its a different league, on a bigger ice but the comparables in terms of quality are just not there, there is a reason kylington came over to play for stockton vice playing in the SHL.
  11. Well they cant necessarily walk, they can hold out and I believe mony is offer sheet is eligible while JH is not. Holding out in this league doesnt necessarily accomplish anything, as we have seen with drouin etc. I dont think any smart agent would advise his client to hold, but I really see this being a non issue anyways.
  12. Wouldnt ollas-mattison be included in the AHL roster? Hes coming over this year isent he, and he looked good in development camp.
  13. Yea we got him for the 35th OA pick. what a steal, I dont know how anyone could dislike tree.
  14. Defense and goaltending go hand in hand. But at the same time I would agree with cross that we dont have the worst defense in the league or 6th worst as you suggest. We had bad goaltending that was made just that much worse by the bad system we played in front of said goaltending. But JJ id love to hear what you think we should do to fix this team defensively.
  15. What season were you watching? We didnt face that many backups, maybe the odd one here and there on back to backs. Also you may be right about quality shots per game, as calgary was bad at that, but that will change under a new coach, and if it doesnt we will have a huge problem. I dont think we will blow that many assets on MAF, the only suggestion ive seen about blowing assets was for beau bennett. The rest of the trades have been about getting rid of wideman, raymond etc but maybe a 2nd.
  16. You might be exaggerating a little bit. The flames of next year could be a different team with a new coach, and to be honest I wouldnt be suprised to see them improve defensively in a new system. He was also .921 on a team was horrendous through the first through months. Im not saying he is going to be the next coming of Roy, but he would still be a competent number #1.
  17. Scheifele= monahan in what world? Hes older then monahan and has had less points in the past two seasons, in the rookie season they were tied. The only difference is scheifele has better advanced stats what a suprise he plays on a overall better team in that category. Next your going to tell me that ehlers= gaudreau? and who equals bennett? On D its definatly a toss up, but it has nothing to do with being a homer. There is some gaps in our roster, but you seem to think that coaching would have gotten us to the promised land and that BH is a genius, so this arguement is pointless.
  18. I dont see how the blue jackets or winnipeg are alot better, blue jackets are lacking on D and winnipeg has good players up front but I think we have more high end talent at this point they have lots of young players with potential though. So you think if we had better goalies, BH suddenly becomes a better coach? Yes we have a goaltending issue, but that doesnt explain the other seasons that BH was the coach of this team.
  19. ya but its not as bad as it turned out this season or last season. Regardless if you think last season was good, we got lucky we didnt play well, I would say we had a much better team then alot of other teams that didnt make the playoffs.
  20. Except I would say its hard to argue that he wasent given alot to work with, the team got alot better on paper in the 4 years he was behind the bench, but the team didnt get any better numbers wise. The only thing that happened was he got a cinderella run to the playoffs out of this team in year 3, but the underlying numbers were always there and they were complete garbage. Could he have had better pieces? sure he could have, but I think the arguement that toronto had better possession numbers with an AHL roster holds true no matter how you look at it.
  21. If hamilton and bennett are projects, I dont even wanna know what mangiapane or arnold are. I would agree with you on hamilton, him making mistakes is no different then gio or brodie making mistakes, just hamiltons mistakes were a little worse. Obviously hamilton had some miscues in the D zone but I dont think that makes him a project by any stretch.
  22. And how are we gettign these players? Against BT, as much as you said he did some good things, it seems like you think he should have grabbed different players some how, and im not following the how.
  23. A little biased are we? The goaltending in the season where we made the playoffs was league average, and I dont think anyone could guess that they would have been that bad. I agree that its not the ideal situation for any coach, but him running with hiller and ramo even when it wasent working made no sense. I dont see why nakladal, morrison or pribyl are bad signings, where are we getting these vernon fiddlers from, id love to see you name off a couple free agents that we will be able to sign this offseason to address our needs. Its pretty easy to sit there and play arm chair gm saying that the percieved holes werent there, when we looked like a completely different team when the signings were made. I almost forgot to mention that as of yet the signings havent pervented us from signing a young player that we need to sign so I dont see why they are bad. Its not like we have a bunch of NHL ready d men sitting in the minors waiting to play behind engelland. I would argue that ferland, bennett are a couple chippy players that can be hard to play against but they are still young. Bollig is a serviceable 4th liner, the problem is his usage, he got played with more d zone starts playing with stajan, obviously its a role he couldnt handle. Im not suggesting hes a great player, but if we used him for what he is playing alongside grant and jooris the 4th line would be far better off.
  24. yea cause we were so far ahead of them in the wins category with a much better team.
  25. I dont think the flames would be so bad with orito and ramo in net next season. Ramo showed us what he can do from christmas onto the time he got injured. While im not saying hes the next coming of kipper, he showed us that he could give us league average goaltending during that time. If he is not looking for a ridiculous contract I bring him back as the starter with ortio as backup. I might replace jordan sigalet as goaltending coach though, as I dont think he has a clue. The only way I make a trade for Andersson or Elliote is if the price is low, which I doubt it will be. Bishop is another example as long as the right trade comes along.
