  1. As much as I don't put much stock in this tournament for draft rankings, is it fair to look at drafted players and rate our scouting?

Not sure it is. But when I do, it doesn't look great. Mind you Kuznetsov SHOULD be on Russia, but they got weird about their NA stock.

Garand is interesting. Canada's #1 G, we took Chechelev before him. But in fairness, can see this in a bunch of teams.

Detroit C Niederbach is interesting playing for Sweden. We took Kuznetzov just before him. Same draft we took Boltmann at 80. Fla took Canada RW Sourdif, who has been near a ppg RW in the dub since 16.

Not jumping to conclusions, but am I being fair?

  2. Hearing some wayward thoughts that Shane Wright should be lighting up the tourney. I figured Power, McTavish and Perfetti would, personally.

Wright will stand out more as the competition increases, but it's still the 3 I mentioned that are actually the leaders.

Detroit D prospect Sebrango is really impressing me too. Scary that he's around 3-4 on their D prospect list.

Ah I see.  Yes Canada is still pumping out the best hockey players.

USA is closing the gap in terms of total kids registered in organized hockey but at the end of the day, the best American athletes are choosing baseball, football, or basketball before hockey.  That's why you see the best US born hockey players in the NHL are usually undersized... "left overs" from the other sports.  Size matters in hockey but still matters less than the other sports especially with the NHL trying to become a No Hit League.  My personal conspiracy is that the NHL wants to encourage smaller US born athletes to choose hockey so the NHL has a bigger talent pool to draw from.  Small + skilled instead of big + rough... Chinese players too.

    JC. You're messed.lol

You and your rabbit holes. Be a coyote.lol

  4. Sadly, I think our lads really needed this break.

It really makes me go back to Sutter's words with 30 guys left in camp. "They'll all be Flames this year".

The schedule (at least with my bias) has been pretty close to relentless. I like lots of games right out of the gate to get your game together, but I honestly think this was way too much for most teams/players. Completely over-the-top. The Olympics are just a really bad idea, or cut 10 games off of schedules.

I'm glad we have a really experienced coach to see the sked and go, JFC, keep prospects on standby. And he knows he needs Gudbranson's and Zadorov's. I'd go out on a limb and say that he's actually protecting Valimaki's development from this bs schedule.

So let's reset and get back to kicking the Satoshi Nakamoto out of everyone.

Sadly, the cup team has become, "who can circumvent the cap best"? Just like over-coaching 3-on-3 OT into ruins.

Canada's B team... Nothing to worry about unless KHL is allowed to send their A teams.  You could get some decent Russian or Swede teams.

Who is on Canada's B team anyways?  Are AHL players allowed to go?

    I mean jr.

We're always at a disadvantage in U17-U18 tourneys because we send 4 teams to everyone else's one. Not kidding. There isn't really an "A" team perse, just all of the talent spread through 4 teams. It's kinda hilarious how we are an extreme superpower. Gold or it's a failure. Any other country, "we didn't medal, but we beat Canada in the QF". That's gold for them.

As long as it takes if it's done right. The done right is debatable because there's build young prospect pool until there's a hint of success and then it is over. Then there's done right by drafting good and high and as much as possible over at least 4-5 or more years.

I think it's easy personally. Manage what you want. Your scouts get your direction, and that's pretty much it.

What I see, is the difference in Yzerman and Sakic vs, even a Doug Armstrong is a whole other thing....like Eichel.

BT needs to pick a fight and win it. I'd love that for him.

    How did he do?

Not bad. They had him 1st line and 1st PP with Beniers, so they see him as a scorer. He played the slot a lot but they weren't getting pucks to him? Should be a good tourney for him. The US will be a D first team and struggle to score maybe. They'll need him to snipe.

Canada looks scary. Like, really scary. Top 2 lines are monster.

Cossa looked like garbage to flatter the Russians on the scoreboard.

Why not just put a Super Casino in it, seems Calgarians can cough up millions in donating to the bells and lights in there.

Of course kidding, People who want to live in a big city and not expect to have sports teams is ridiculous, lets not have concerts halls either then, or Zoo's, or Space centers etc.  I agree tax dollars need to be in good order but without big events in big city's doesn't make sense either.

The problem is these rich owners, players, and billionaires who extort every penny from civilians expect us to always pony up the money.

"If you build it, they will come"  (Field of Dreams 1989)  Go Flames.

Not really kidding when you are 100% correct.

Call it a, "Arts & Entertainment Centre" and watch the philanthropists come running. Suddenly you're building a $1.5bil complex with everything from hockey to world-class theatre and a National Art Gallery.

  9. What a difference a yr has made in Detroit. The fans are beside themselves in joy. From constant calls to trade Larkin to a new nickname of D Boss, It's been quite a bounceback for the captain, he's become the work ethic leader, hitting, fighting, sticking up for teammates. Hard to believe he's still just 25.

The persistently patient treatment of prospects is now paying off with Seider and Raymond, 2 Calder favourites currently along with rookie goalie Nedeljkovic.

Loaded with young players in Hronek, Lindstrom (D) and Zadina, Ramussen, Veleno, Stephens (F) the pipeline is still pretty relentless.

Likely adding two more Calder candidates for next year in Edvinsson and Berggren, and still top level prospects in Wallinder, Johannson, McIsaac (D), Neiderbach, Soderblom, (F) Cossa (G).

The Wings are suddenly a young, dynamic team well worth keeping an eye on.

    After YEARS of being horrible.

How long would we be willing to wait for a full rebuild?

I'm surprised because the season is still young and the Jets started strong only to go on a slide lately.  I guess expectations were extremely high this season.

Honestly I think they needed to get rid of Maurice. Like AV in Philly, the coaching style just doesn't match the roster.

It's not that AV, Maurice or Green are bad coaches, just the style that they want the team to play doesn't match the roster. I think it's more about the gm and coach have to be of the same mindset. BT can't just run out and grab Hoffman or Skinner for example. They don't fit what the coach wants.

AV completely demoted Konecny 3 wks in last year. Konecny was fire. AV didn't like his D play.Boudreau in Van has them playing pond hockey atm. The players love it. They want to run and gun. He needs to decide how to structure that.

AV took a team that wants to run and gun and tried to make them a better D team.

All good coaches, but the GM needs to decide on coach and providing for the type of coach.

Precisely why we get Coleman, the LA duo, Pitlick, Z and Gud. Need to provide for the type of coach.

It's the GM's job to understand that.

Chevy's a great GM, Maurice is a great coach, but it's likely just gotten stale, and it shows.

  11. Was hearing that a few of the positives are the omicron strain. Ontario's hitting over 3,000 new cases/day. Can this end any time now?

Was hoping the Silver Stick would be a go next month with the best AAA Midget teams, now it's CDN teams only.
