So, just to add fuel to the fire....

Markstrom not on the ice today (optional skate for him).

Wolf in starter net and Vladar backing up.

Wolf was on an emergency recall due to Vladar being on IR.

So far Vladar still showing on IR.

But if he's on the ice?

Sounds like a good D pickup, and we’ll need two immediately after next week.

I like the play here by Conroy.

it’s been widely reported that Tanev had a lot more interested teams than Hanifin. Well, Tanev is gone now. And the Stars got even stronger in the western conference. All those teams that missed out on Tanev now only have Hanifin as an option.

well played.

Feels like Conroy set a price.  Whoever met it first got the player.

VAN jumped on Lindholm early based on same idea.  This was the ask for Tanev.

And now we see who will meet the ask for Hanifin.

It's a fine return.

Would have been nice if the Flames could have gotten a condition on the 2nd, that it could become a 1st if DAL made the Finals. Oh well.

Four picks in the top 64 is nice. Also nice to add another D prospect. I think the GM realizes how thin they are at that position. Grushnikov, Jurmo, Brzustewicz

I forgot about Jurmo too.  LHS LD stay-at-home type.

I'm glad the deal is done. Every game that went by Tanev was one wrong blocked shot from ending up on IR.

So true, and a bit less anxiety for the rest of the team.  Now, who gets promoted into that spot?

Need some forwards now with the Hanifin and Markstrom trades.

They are giving Kuz the 4th line treatment.

Because Hunt is such a fine player that never stuck anywhere.

Big thank you to Tanev!

You’ve been a rock for the flames!!

Now go win yourself a cup, and circle back with us in the summer ok?

Kinda funny. I remember when Tanev signed. It was in the evening of UFA 2020.

It was largely hated by Flames fans. Injury prone guy. They were still paying the Brouwer buyout and this contract was the exact same as Brouwer's.

We were all wrong. It was an excellent contract and Tanev was a real pleasure to watch with the Flames.

I don't mind it at all.

The game has really changed. Now the D that go at the top of the draft, ironically, aren't all that strong defensivsely. It's the era of the offensive defenceman. I don't mind taking fliers on some of these guys as additonal pieces in trades. I like it a lot more than spending a 2nd on Kuznetsov.

I was 50/50, and more worried about injury, but understood I hated him as a Canuck because he was so steady. Good player!

Yep. I was one of them, admittedly. But he changed my initial, incorrect opinion very quickly. He’s one of the good ones for sure, and I sincerely hope he gets a chance to win a cup. I’m routing for him.

Yeah, being an armchair GM is so easy, since we know so much(NOT).  Hopefully this trade works out well.

Yups.  I felt we overpaid for a 3rd pair stay-at-home D... Didn't realize he was one of the league's best.  Kelly Hrudey was even trying to give him the Norris trophy two seasons ago.

I liked the signing but what made it difficult was that it was essentially Brodie for Tanev.

We failed to deal with Brodie's pending UFA and ended up signing Tanev before circling back to Brodie.

BT failed us too often to overcome the good things.

Neal begat Lucic trade in 19/20

Lucic begat losing Brodie (cap) but able to sign Tanev.

Lucic begat losing 1st to MTL for Monahan.

Signing Neal and Brower set us up to fail.

Trading Neal for Lucic left us sucking air for cap space.

We aren't able to spend where we needed it.

Question: So presumably Grushnikov moves to the Wranglers immediately, and starts earning his call-up to the Flames?

Well I don't think he has earned prime time yet over the awesome Oesterle.

If anything, they move Kylington to Weegar and Hanifin to Ras.

That leaves open Gilbert or Oesterle with Pachal.

Neither of them should be in the top 6, but we shall see.

New guy is a LHS, so COULD pair with Pachal, but maybe shouldn't yet.

He's 20.  Solo deserves it first.

Or perhaps they go for the field goal from 50 yard line and call up Poirier.

Brodie and Gio are UFAs this summer… just saying. :)

Time for BT to mess that up?

Naw, it's late career for those guys.

Gio keeps going an going, but Brodie is showing his age.

I think he hangs it up soon.

Been around for so long.

Never really got paid

Nice trade for Tanev, he’s a warrior but the guys turning 35 and a UFA so glad we got some futures and a prospect for him. I trust Conroy enough to know he’s not getting fleeced, he’s carefully weighing these offers and returns. Hanifin will be an interesting one, he’s getting us back another 1st rounder at the very least, I don’t think the Flames move Markstrom …they aren’t tanking on the season just yet

This trade reminded me of the Kris Russell trade.

Get a guy with a name that's tough to spell.

Get a 2nd.

We ended up with a player in that deal (Brett Pollock former 2nd rounder) that never did anything.

So the equivalent of two 2nds.

Though the pick was conditional on reaching conference final.

Markstrom without Tanev.

Reminds me of the 2nd round of the playoffs.

If you trade your best defensive defenseman, are you not tanking?

We traded a pending UFA instead of losing him for nothing..that's called asset management...  Trading Anderson for picks .. that would be tanking
