Kulstad
In the wake of Wacky Wednesday, I thought it appropriate to start this year's Free Agent Frenzy topic now. This topic will open its doors for posting on Friday. This first post will list all the deals (and I'll try to keep up with them as they happen). cross16
Not a lot of suprise but man that is crazy term. I care more about term then dollars and I think most of ther big deals are going to be real handcuffs and buyouts.

cross16
Man what is with Colorado snapping up Non qualifiers?? Tyutin, Colborne.. Wiercioch... They can't draft. Their drafting has been downright horrific for years now, outside of the lottery. Have to really dumpster dive when your a budget team that can't draft
jjgallow
Treliving's done everything but shore up D. Which....is funny, because D was probably our biggest problem after goaltending. Happy with some of the signings, but not all. And wondering if Treliving is getting a little blinded by his own awesomeness. In particular, the Hamilton trade (which was awesome). Worried that he may think he'd singlehandedly solved the Flames' D problems on D with that trade. And I'm sure there are some here would agree. But if anything, near-term, he just made D a bigger project with that trade. And has done nothing to shore it up since.

Giordano, Brodie, and Hamilton are a strong top 3 and they have some good depth players in Engelland and Jokipakka. That said, the Flames were in on Hamhuis so I think Treliving would like to add another 4/5 D.
cross16
Problem with going Hard after d this year is the crop of FA was pretty bad and overrated IMO. Big money and term they didn't deserve and that the flames couldn't afford. Not to mention that anyone they acquire they will likely lose in the expansion draft or be forced to lose either Gio, Hamilton or Brodie. Wrong season to be pursuing a dman for the flames unless it's a depth guy like a hamhuis.

The rest, we'll find out soon enough. It will be hard to blame everyting on goaltending for a second season.

But by acquiring another younger talent, or taking a chance on someone from Europe (like they did with Pribyl).....this could have been a smart move and maybe more worthy of the focus. Not that I don't like the Pribyl signing...just would have liked to see the focus on RD. Like a Nils Andersson, etc.
stella1973
Gio, TJ, Hamilton, jokkipakka, engelland, Wideman......not our position of need as that is a pretty solid 6 with wspoon also in mix. Goaltending and forwards (especially RW) were more of a concern this off season and we improved in both areas
