geos
Mario had a point, but he can't control what his team does on the ice. Sure he can. He can refused to sign repeat headhunting offenders and other dirty players, but he doesn't. He could assign Cookie or Asham to the AHL tomorrow. But he doesn't. He's a hypocrit. It's only a sin in his eyes when Crosby is the target. Not Savard, Giroux or the long list of stars that his goons have intentionally attempted to injure. What did the Canucks say about Bitz? nothing, what did they say about Marchand and Keith? Everything. Have the Flames ever defended a dirty play? Yep, TK last year. They didn't defend Bourque for the Backstrom hit, but didn't exactly call him out for that either.

But Mario went out of his way to publicly criticize the league for allowing dirty play, and use his celebrity and create as big a disturbance as he could, all the while employing among the league's worst offenders. that is way beyond not acknowledging incidents, or defending your team. it's hardly a defense for his actions to say "well, the canucks did the same thing" he is the worst type of hypocrite. he not only condones these actions, he seemingly rewards it, yet he is the first and loudest to decry the rest of the league when something happens to his team. not just the player or team that offends, but the whole league. DL44
I love this series! It's been entertaining as hell. Fleury getting shredded.. Bryzgalov not getting shredded as much.. 13 of the top 14 scorers in NHL scoring are from this series coming into tonight's gms.. If you love scoring chances... this is the series for you... sure Fleury and Bryz have let in a handful of soft ones... but this series is about skill upfront on both sides taking advantage of the numerous defensive breakdowns leaving their goalies out to dry... oh and hate. The_People1
James Neal 1-game suspension for his hit on Giroux. That's fair but, ZERO games for his leaving the feet and hitting Couturier in the head without the puck? WOW. If that was Torres hitting Couturier, that's a 5-game suspension, minimum. C_worthy
Crazy stat of the day... .900 is a crappy save percentage. In order for Fleury to have a save percentage over .900, he would have had to have not allowed 10 of the 18 goals that he has given up so far. That's 10 less goals in less than 10 periods of hockey!!! And he would STILL have a crappy save percentage! Unreal.
rocketdoctor
this is one wild series. 7 goals in the first. Great series for the neutral

DL44
The goaltending in this series is just atrocious. Goaltending has been sub-par, especially Fleury... But the fault lies completely on the atrocious D in this one. Especially Philly's in tonight's game. These teams aren't going Nowhere after this series... They are actually lucky they got each other round 1. One pathetic D at least gets thru.
rocketdoctor
Agreed. I cannot see either of these teams going all the way. I'll go for New Jersey or Boston to come out of the East. Only because I do not like NYR or OTT
CastleMania
6-3, I would say the game is over, but we all know how far from the truth that is in this series. Haha.

There is the possibility that each of these teams is coached to play each other this way. Plus, perhaps the #1 rivalry in the entire league. Next team, different strategy. 403Loyalty
Im with DL on this one, there is no way either coach is happy with the way their team is playing. Actually as for game 4 you would have to think the Pens have the momentum going into game 5 at home. After the first period they really settled down and did less after the whistle. Pitts plays better when they are focused on hockey than they are with the chirping and post whistle scrums. It was really evident when Renaldo took his major, philly needs the Pens unfocused to create more open ice for them. When the Pens are on their game I can see the Pens taking this back to 7 games. mrjohnnycanuck
That was such a wicked series and congratulations to the Flyers and to FF52 This series really had everything but what can you say about Giroux other than he's a machine! And to Fleury, I thought their was only one goalie that held the title of "epic playoff meltdown"....welcome to the club as you are the new reigning champion. T he worst offender you talk about has also changed after Mario had talked to him. I never said he had a bounty system, but he sure doesn't cut ice time. if he was serious about this, he'd mandate that dirty players get less ice time. Cooke kept getting in trouble after Mario's public statement. he didn't get a 'talking to' until the league made it clear he'd be looking at 20+ games from that point on.
