Nah, it's just for fun and how we think it will shake out. Isn't that more important than what we believe is the right order? I don't intend to ever say I told you so after a draft. It's too long a runway to actually proclaim who the best pick was. BTW, I think Demidov is the 2nd best in the draft and will go 2nd OA. 4 out of 12 in the pool think that.

Well you could say they shut down Kane, after he was useless. And they sat out Nurse for the rest of one game when he couldn't continue. Draisaitl had a couple of issues (can't do much about broken rib). McDavid's sounds like the one Backlund had that took him out for 6 months. I think you would be hard pressed for the team or the player to sit out the playoffs. You get close, this may be the only chance to ever win the cup. Concussion? Sure, you sit out. There is set protocol for that and teams would be careful in their liability.

Liked the player. Considered we might have asked for him for retaining salary on a Marky deal. I doubt it was offered but it made sense at TDL.

It's not his negotiating skill that concerns me. He's done fine. The speed on the draft floor has to be there. You have to be ready to up your offer, stick, or walk away. We have struck out in the past for many reasons. BT was always on the phone and he always managed to move picks for picks. But this is high stakes. Potential game changer.

Trade protection is a bargaining chip. If a team doesn't want to offer one or the player doesn't want one, then it's moot. The NMC and the dead cap rules exist because there were teams abusing players and sending them down. What I was saying about money was that a player may choose to sign for less with a NMC or NTC as the form of stability. These tend to be family people. If your family lived in Canada and you get traded to a sh*thole city, that would put you in a bad situation. It's different if a TDL deal sends you to that city for a couple of months. The NHL and NHLPA barely struck a deal and extension without opening up the CBA too much. The owners would love to talk about it. As it is, even a NMC and NTC can be waived.

Well, that's a thing that exists in the CBA and the players absoluiely would not consider giving up. The cap makes only the top 10% get the top $$. A player isn't going to settle for lower dollars and have no say in where they go. The NMC prevents them from being sent to the minors.

The asking price for the 4th overall is going to be stupid. If Demidov doesn't get scooped by CHI, then many many teams above 4th will b calling. We have to have that offer already in CBJ's ear. They may counter at the last minute but it has to be big enough (from us) to be considered. I don't know how good Connie is at playing live poker.

I don't think a player like Marner gets the 1st as well. Not unless we were retaining 50% of both and even then I doubt it. One thing to note about Marner current deal. He gets his signing bonus this summer so Toronto would be unlikely to trade him after he gets paid that SB.
