  1. Not sure if it was to create a spot for young players or not. You couldn't move him up since he wasn't that great a fit anywhere else. Backlund's line should be used to fix a player's defensive issues or at least mitigate them. But to your point, it's also a good spot to use Coronato or Pelletier. I don't know that they can find the right UFA forward. I want a top 6 C. That would move Zary back with Kadri. The ripple effect is bad though. You could have a line of Coronato and Pelletier if you gave them enough minutes, Duehr's game fell off. Hunt is a role player and played well when games meant nothing but droppin in draft picking order. Klapka is an extra on most teams. Schwindt has to wait until Rooney drop off the team. Or is traded or waived.
  2. There was a raft of issues with the tool applied by the NHL which checked credentials. And the message board link on main Flames page was broken and you could only get on a cerain way. Anyway great to have a former member back.
  3. BT is again replacing Brodie with Tanev, but in a different city. Fans are gonna hate the deal, but he will be a great player for them. Won't get the Marner hate. So, we should scoop Brodie for a reasonable 2 year deal. One year if we overpay a bit and he wants that. I think we still lack the smooth skating D to play depth. I still want to sign Kylington, but we still need depth. Hanley is more of an emergency guy you stow in the AHL. Pachal is okay but not really more than a 7. There are a ton of UFA's and not sure I want anything other than a C. Maybe we trade more than sign. Pick up as suggested some semi cap dumps. Take a prospect as reward or a pick. WOuld have to be a gross salary to get good stuff though. Traveling on UFA Day (thanks Westjet).
  4. I read some idiot's view if the draft and he gave most picks average or failing grades. I have no issues with 90% of it and really would say the rest are just fine.
  5. Jamieson is listed as a shutdown defender, but still managed 10 goals and 32 points. You want a shutdown guy to have some offense at junior. Better choice than picking one without many points in the 2nd round.
  6. The players selected this and next year will be ready for the AHL or NHL by the time we get a new arena. They will be aching to join the young core we have with some solid NHL vets. There seems to be enough space between our D prospects so they aren't all lining up at the same time looking for a job. The AHL forward prospects last year were a bit of a disappointment. I get that they were not top end to begin with, but nobody that came up from junior really did a lot. We don't have Beck anymore. And missing Francis. Pelletier injured too long to get back in the swing.
  7. I doubt you waste a pick on AHL or ECHL depth. There is lots of that available. And you can sign undrafted players up to the start of a season. The only pick I even question is the 20 year old. Last time we went overage, it was a waste. Overage and not in any junior or Euro league. I just see that one as a huge swing for the fences. Doubt the upside is there, but you may end up with a Derek Ryan down the road. None of the picks have questionable ethics or morals. That I know of. The fallers fell for whatever reason. One guy I heard fell because he got into worrying about draft ranking and changed his play level. Maybe poorly advised.
  8. I think either DD or I am confused here. I don't think you can go 8 years just by having the rights to a player. I think they have to be on your reserve list by a certain point in the season. 2 days before UFA is not that. I do admit I'm not sure on that. Tkachuk was a sign and trade which is common. Different situation but it allowed him to get 8 years.
  9. Same screen name? I know we lost some people with that Captcha thingy.
  10. There is some risk with a future pick. It's top 12 protected, but missing the playoffs is still a good pick. So it's a little interesting: If it's top 12, Philly gets an unprotected 2026 1st. If they trade the 2026 pick, they have to give up a 2025 unprotected 1st.
  11. Agreed. Toronto trades for Tanev's rights. Dallas must have given up on him.
  12. We are done for the draft now.
  13. We reach for one pick in the 6th, will we draft a faller and be happy? Hunter Laing?
  14. IMHO, it's fine to pick a kid in the feeder leagues like AJHL or BCHL or an overager that is crushing the CHL. There are risks and maybe he was passed over for good reasons in the other drafts....But, an overager in a feeder league? That's probably the worst of the worst place to go. I mean we draft this guy then lin the 5th go for Misa. Man, Carolina picked Poirier's brother. Spitting image of his brother.
  15. Seriously SN, are you gonna even talk about the pick?
  16. He seriously dropped compared to the "expert" rankings.
  17. Time out taken just when we are ready to pick. COme on SN, what's your deal?
  18. There is always going to be one thrown away pick. It may be this last one or the fact they traded to get two picks when they had B2B picks. I'm not sure if there is much quality to be had from this point on. Maybe a surprise player, but unlikely a star.
  19. I'm only saying he was passed over twice. A 20 year old should dominate.
  20. I never understand the overager picks. How did he end up ranked higher than 18 year olds. It's not like he was a scoring threat in the OHL. Reminds me of a few previous Flames picks that were overagers.
  21. They suck at even talking about Flames players selected. Pick made, oh we have to talk about a terade. Pick made by team just before us? Commercial time. We have two picks, time to talk to some idiot for 5 minutes.
  22. Maybe he can earn the nickname "The Big Nyet".
  23. Gone are the days of picking Mason MacDonald. A Russian goalie is not a bad plan, since we have improved scouting there.
  24. Seattle is eating our lunch. I'm not saying they took all the guys we wanted, but they have been annoying. All this because we had more ROW than them.
