  1. I wonder if Monahan is going to get an offer here? Funny how values of players change. Brannstrom, who was the key piece in the Stone trade, is hitting the market.
  2. By the sounds of it, Kylington is going to test free agency. This might be the end of his time in Calgary. I guess it wasn't as close to a deal as we may have thought. Too bad,
  3. Norris, now making $9.5M, Norris? I don't know man. 35g in 66 games sounds good, but only 20 assists. And that was his best season by a wide margin. And a Covid season, so may of the same teams. Yes, he hasn't played muc last 2 years. The injury concern is there for me. Robertson is a tad bit small for my liking. He is not his brother. Cheap add yes, but not really liking the size. Undersized wingers, unless they are special, are a concern for me. Just my opinion. There are things to like about each player.
  4. Thanks to you for offering a prize to generate more opinions and concrete lists of names in the draft.
  5. Maybe SB can bring in some more questionable players. Any rapists out there that can score goals? How about other players whose NHL contract was terminated. Out of cap hell into cap jail I guess.
  6. I don't think we looked that much worse than before we traded Hanifin. I wasn't a fan of Hanley or Pachal for their defending. They hit hard and had some offense but not top players. Our current (assuming Kyl is back) is pretty good. Even without Tanev and Hanifin. We did struggle with zone exits. When Solo was here, he was good. Beyond that the other players weused were not great. Disimone. Gilbert. We also picked up Bahl, which I always forget now.
  7. Any lesser prize for getting the CGY pick right? LOL
  8. Yeah I mixed up the pick with the one from another trade which we didn't get. This was to be a 3rd if they made the WCF. Stupid EDM. Well it turned out to be as good as getting a 3rd or possibly a 2nd. Would have been nice to get the Dallas one. The VGK one would have gone to a different year had we got it. All in all, this was an absolute killing.
  9. What you suggest is reasonable but you need to lower the number to still allow for competition. Bring in a vet D. Bring in a vet or other C. Have needs in that area right now. A vet D doesn't impact a prospect making the team, just a depth guy we have like Hanley or Pachal. A vet C provides wingers with growth like Kadri did for Zary and Pops. We could probably stand to use a young player with Backlund. Instead of forcing Zary at C or top line RW. More options.
  10. WOuld be fine to sign him to a less than buried cap penalty amount. I think at leaast he is a AHL player we might work with. 11 goals in 25 games in CBJ. Anyone on our team have stats like that? At worst a NHL player that can work with the kids. It's a low risk move.
  11. That is bazarre. I'm assuming he has an out clause if he goes to jail. Guilty not as concerning to the contract. I'm sure they have felons there.
  12. I know that some analysts have looked at it, but how much does he score without McDavid on the ice. The Florida series seemed to be the reconing for them. McD injured and Drai's scoring drais up. No goals in the series. I know he has shown he can fly alone but unless he has a top winger with him, not so much. I'm not saying this is true, just what seems to be the case in games I have watched. I would at least suggest that 90% of his PP goals relate directly to McD being there. Toronto has the same kind of issue. Marner, Matthews, Nylander and Tavares. Take away one of them and are the C's as impressive. And vice versa. The idea of having more than one guy making max % against the cap is dangerous unless they are standalone guys. I'm not sure EDM or TOR are in that situation.
  13. Marshmallow is gonna get paid. Was underpaid for his time in VGK. His new deal is the reason they can't afford him. For this team at the start of last season it would have made sense. In two years it may make sense. If we did a one year deal with the understanding he was going to a cup fave..... I diybt he wants that. He is looking for the payday he never got.
  14. I am assuming that this includes the pick for Zadorov not just Lindholm. We didn't move the 28th and didn't get the additional pick from them for making WCF.
  15. I'm thinking Mantha might be looking for a one year deal to up his value. He never did what WAS or VGK wanted. One year high dollar would be a risk but only from salary side. Big winger maybe creates some space for Sharky or Huberdeau or Zary. I admit I only know him from stats this last few years. He could be in for a turnaround season. And a TDL asset to trade. My first UFA priority is C. Unless we can find one in a reasonable trade.
  16. Tampa can't afford it, they are going all in on F. They traded Sergachev to make room. They want cheap D and that means around 1-2M at most. Andersson's status depends on how he plays this year into next year. If he's trending up in points he will want Weegar money. I am skeptical that he will be worth that, but maybe I am a bit harsh. He's the right age and does a lot of things well, but does some things poorly. We may not need him if any of the prospects or current AHL crop is ready. Then we trade him while his contract is a steal. It has to be better than the Tanev trade. The Hanifin one was decent enough and should be the standard minimum.
  17. Remember ConnorFutureGM? I think that was CMD before he was drafted. He was a huge troll.
  18. It's a crazy condition set where if they trade the 2025 pick again it slide to 2026. Or if it's 12 or better. I could see a dumb arse GM trading it and getting caught giving up two top 10 choices. Because when you fly too close to the sun you get burned. FLA came out of the SCF loss and remained the same or better. They added or right sized to have a better team. EDM went all in for this year and has no way of icing a better team without major overhaul and giving away candy. They have one line or so and part of a defense. No money to improve or even stay the same level. Have to buy out goalie, but that was a given. Have to lose a few players for losses to have any money to overspend again. This may be the last year they have any cap room. Nurse and Bouch/Douche will take up at least 17M. Bouch/Douche followed the same path as Nurse where he scored a ton of goals and applies with McD on the ice and on PP's. He probably gets close to $9M. Like Nurse he was prone to extremely dumb positioning. The only difference was Ekholm was there to make him look good.
  19. Look at the last few forwards EDM has drafted first round or early 2nd. Bougault Holloway Lavoie None are what I would call slam dunks. Holloway closest to being a NHL player but substandard numbers compare to his draft class like Mercer. So maybe EDM got a good one or they read rankings and believe he is the right one. Maybe we missed out.
  20. I don't get why they are buying him out. He's not that muuch overpaid and is still young.
  21. He will be, but I think TMac was saying NHL ready. Anything is possible but I think you would have to have an incredible camp and at leat 20 AHL games of amazing play to warrant a look. Both Pachal and Hanley were waiver claims so you could waive them over a prospect.
  22. Honestly, I didn't look at goalie rankings before the draft. I trusted that they would take on and that they are decent judges of goalie ability. We're not talking about ranking MacDonald over Demko here. And it's not looking at a huge guy that has some athletics to match size. The take these guys had on him is what I see just by looking at stats. The MHL is not top tier but it's not VHL either. He did well. Remains to be seen if he gets a call to the KHL. I think he is signed for one season remaining, so no idea if he would be coming over to Calgary after that. Might actually benefit to play a year in the KHL.
  23. Poirier had a really bad season for luck, but he still managed to come back and put up near 0.5p/gp. Solo is still adjusting, but the infrequent games set him back. Think he is decent. Grush is one I haven't seen so I can't tell. He should be ready. Pachal isn't a prospect according to the games played. I like some aspects of his game, but still needs work. My desire to bring in a guy like Brodie is to manage the prospects. He would have less pressure than in TOR or even the last time here. 1 or 2 years might give us some time to help get the prospects in full time. One year Brodie would be a trade asset, and we could retain salary to max the return. Ot we have him a bit longer and he stays to help solidify the D.
  24. A couple of places ranked him but nothing substantial. He played the latter part of the year in what seemed a different team setup. 29 games, 1.99 GAA, .944 SA% - 5 shutouts 5 playoff games 2.14 GAA .945 SA% - 2 shutouts Was the best goalie on that team.
  25. I never warmed up to Catton. I expected him to go outside the top 10 but he dropped a lot. Maybe we looked at him. Anyway we have to be a little more strategic. Losing a spot to SEA just becuase we tied and had more Regulation Wins is sick. What moral victories did we have?
