  1. Unless you know who the player was, it's hard to suggest that the picks weren't enough. Do we have anyone left that played with Johnny Hockey?
  2. I know. Really, value wise, Ras going helps to make it closer in value, but the cap issues make it now work. If CGY the only deal that Marner is asked to waive for, then he might consider it. Less pressure here...Maybe. I would think there would be a host of teams wanting Marner, but BT is likely wanting Kadri over any form of logical return.
  3. The only trade that makes sense for both money and partial value is: To TOR Kadri 5x$7M remaining To CGY Marner 1x $10.9M ($8.025M actual of which $7.25M is signing bonus) Reeves 2 x $1.35M
  4. Love the player. Not sure what you need to send back for the trade to work. In some ways, it's dumping an expensive player contract, but he is worth a lot. They wouldn't be able to take back much salary. It would have to be at least Coronato or something interesting to them. We have no high end players that make sense. Maybe Zary and Pospisil? No idea how to structure a trade.
  5. I guess I was just thinking it was an expensive trade with Kadri and Ras. We can replace both, but Kadri might be the bigger loss to the young-uns. I wonder if Kadri alone though would do it. Then they can blame him like they used to. Players they love to blames in TO: Marner Kadri Brodie Any goalie Some random 4th liner
  6. I feel like Twiggy is being talked about so much because of the name. Not because he would be the next Iggy, but because our biggest recognizable player is Huberdeau, and not for all the right reasons. We used to have Johnny Hockey, Turtle, Phaneuf, Iggy, Kipper, Newy, Lanny, Gilmore.....Most casual fans now could barely name out top 3. Twiggy represents a namebrand that they can remember and get a jersey for, without fearing that he would be traded. If there was no Twiggy, then the media and locals would just be discussing players that might make it to us or could fall close to us.
  7. Somebody suggested that it would be Marner for Kadri + Andersson. That seems overpay for someone they are actively shopping and would be incredibly difficult to re-sign, assuming he would waive. The age is not so much the issue, just that he is already a $10M man and has been for years. I don't get why TOR would even consider trading him unless he wants out. Other than 3 points in 7 playoffs games what is their issue?
  8. Those are big reason for her to "support" the Oilers. I guess she decided on a photo shoot over the porn offers.
  9. The ol' Future Considerations, eh? Considering Stevie's past dealings there has to be something up. Yes, they could waive him in September and he would get picked up perhaps, or they get stuck with over $2M in dead cap space. Considering how we had the cap space, I'm not sure why we weren't contacted. Meybe he thought we were dumping cap as well. But why not ask? I'm not sure there really is ever anything in future considerations. It's like selling something for a dollar so it's not considered a gift.
  10. I do think Debrusk offers the ability to play RW, which seems to be a bigger need than LW.
  11. Easier to to reply to one person. Ras is at discussion because it is the same situation as Markstrom was. You have an asset that is signed for a few more years. Has a lot of value in trade. Unless you are 100% convinced he is core and will re-up him whatever he costs, you have to view him as whether he has high value that can change the franchise, not just get an asset back. I'm still a bit iffy on whether he has enough to be a #1 on this team. He doesn't do some things that I feel would make him a 1. That's just me, but I am still in wait and see mode. If someone blows you away with an offer and it means you are way better off, then it should be a no brainer
  12. Yes very. And that's outside the top 10.
  13. Some big leaps here by the writer I think. Is it unusual to check in with a player during the summer? Maybe, but you don't want to be totally disconnected from the player and realize later that he ignored training because he was PO'd. And maybe there's some areas of his game that the coach wanted him to work on, like skating and edges. Or stickhandling or shooting. The player almost never wanted to shoot, so maybe they talked about that part. Strangely enough, when he was in close he could score. He just rarely did that.
  14. Past examples include PLD, Laine, and Poolparty. PLD and Laine are more mistakes based on work ethic. Pooly was one tournament he played with Laine, was it not? It should be an interesting draft. There are going to be WTF moments and guys that fall hard. I hope we don't have a WTF moment and look hard at the guys that fall.
  15. You really have to wonder what a scout or analyst would have seen to drastically change their ranking. Sure, a rank from November might not be accurate, but the observations they used to come up with one may not really change. I noticed this....Oh, he has started scoring so all is forgotten....He had a bad/good playoffs, so all is forgotten. I would hope we are not looking at Johnny come lately player rankings.
  16. Consider the 10th is Siliyev and Buium is 12th, I'm not sure I trust his rankings. Maybe it's how he thinks teams draft. Just seems like odd picks.
  17. I think there is a round where a scrub line looks like your best line. Genius or just circumstance. It reminds me of Janmark and Holloway etc. Were the Oilers best players on certain nights. But that was maybe FLA underplayed them and gave them space. Or fell too often. I agree that the coaching carosel worked against some players. But he was wildly inconsistent. And got in the doghouse taking dumb penalties. He never drew them. I think he saw himself as Gilmore and was not tough or talented enough to fit that role. I dunno at this point. We either remember the good or the bad or the Lomberg.
  18. At 21 Hage may be available. A trade of 2 picks to get the player vs waiting in hopes he drops or somebody else you like does. Honestly, it depends on what teams are picking up to that point. If the player you covet is gone, then don't bother. I don't know how fast Connie is on the draw, though. He's still not as savy as some so he may not be able to swing in time.
  19. I had heard Philly was looking to move Frost. Maybe not a Torts guy? If the 32nd could be had by doing a cap dump, sure. You can use RJ, though I don't like him that much. Maybe he's a buyout next summer, I think the 32 is realistic and underrated pick. There will be fallers like when Stankhoven dropped. More likely guys slated to be top 30 and have some questions.
  20. Do you mean trading him in one of those years? By then $10.5M will be chump change, LOL. He has a full NTC until the last 2 years then a 12 team to be traded to list. Right now it's just money that we are paying. He isn't worth it. It doesn't prevent us from signing or trading for a player that will cost help us long term. Huberdeau isn't getting that type of player in return anyway. Unless he is high performing, it's a cap dump.
  21. Not to beat a dead horse, but I think Bennett and Tkachuk only work with certain players. Tkachuk worked with JG because he was able to control the play for most of the shift with his zone entries and creativity. Then again it's almost impossible to say what we would look like with the 3 ex Flames. Maybe Tkachuk would have developed differently with Bennett.
  22. Sounds like taking the spotlight before they bring out the Cup. I think it's dumb to even award it to a member of the losing team. How are you the MVP if you lost? They don't want it. They came for another cup and would only be okay if they won it as well. If anything, the only reason they made it to the finals and game 7 was Skinner. Not entirely accurate, but he saved their bacon and allowed a goal to stand as the winner in 15 games. Even a 8-1 game meant that you stopped enough to allow the other team to make desperate plays. Anyway, I don't like the guy myself. I don't think much different about him as a result.
  23. I hope we can just let those dogs lay at some point. They are not here. Neal and Lucic both gone. Brouwer gone. Monahan gone. I miss the water-bug skating of Gaudreau and the general pest/scoring of Tkachuk. We lost the creativity. Tkachuk was selfish in his antics some nights. Bennett was frustrating to watch some nights. Monahan was a nice guy you wanted to have a better end here for. We could have all of those guys and still not have close to enough to win the cup. Missing a #1C. Our D was good but unable to shut down speed at times. Markstrom was good for one series and not so good for another. We didn't have a coach that adjusted. Nuff said.
  24. In the heat of battle I can understand it. I think it may have been more classy to go and accept it, but I can understand the argument to not go there. His parents were expecting him to go. I some ways it shortchanged the fans at the game. But it's not the most important thing to even win. It shows you had a great playoffs, but as the losing team it means nothing.
  25. Once JG signaled he was leaving, Tkachuk wanted out. Both players indicated they wanted to be here, until they didn't. The funny thing is they both seemed happy here, until the loss to the Oilers. To a certain extent, I think they blamed Sutter for that. Goalie starts, line matching etc. BT could have signed JG in the summer before. He floated a low number after a poor season. Tkachuk was always going to get paid with his deal structured that way.
