Next season could definitely get interesting this offseason coming. I think the huge decision to be made surrounds Neal and if he is a keeper. If he is a keeper BT and BP need to decide what a proper line looks like for him. I would like to see them at least try Tkachuk LW, Bennett C and Neal LW as our 2nd line. Move Backlund to C a 3rd line and let the competition for jobs in the lower 6 take place. Throw Nygard into the mix. I would like to see BT go for Mrazek to go with Rittich. -

Why would you say this, I disagree ? This guy could be next season's Lindholm. -
I don't see good puck handling ability as a bad thing in today's game but I do think Smith over does it. Rittich didn't do much of it at all until this season so he isn't great at it but he is learning. Great when it works, not so great when it doesn't. I get just as annoyed with Gaudreau and Brodie's spin-a-ramas and coughing up the puck stalling out good pushes.

I would have my eye on Mrazek for next season. I still believe Rittich will make a great back up. Trade Gilles in a package and start grooming Parsons.

There is no doubt Hanifin has to improve his thinking and defensive coverages.

I won't repeat myself for you but Hamilton was the same his first year here.

If some people can't see the talent Hanifin possesses they have no clue about talent to begin with.

Carty, good of you to post this notice with its own thread. I had been wondering about FF and the silence on his end. He was a great presence to have on the forum and he was and will be missed. This is indeed sad news.

It's a mixed bag of results for all kinds of reasons not just goaltending. Our own zone has looked like a fire drill way to often and usually of our own making from a poor out pass. Gaudeau has been terrible since the break causing BP to try all kinds of line variations to find offence. I would say no need to panic but as a team they need to get some things sorted out real soon.

You seem to be the only one second guessing the goalie arrangements and game schedule .

I don't think any of us are all upset about where we are at presently, just that we seem to be getting away from what created the success. We were attacking as a 5 man unit in the early going and now I see a number of individuals forcing situations that are not there. Defensively we were attacking at the blueline and creating turnovers not so much now. All correctable stuff so hopefully the coaches are on it.

If you think they are playing great that's your opinion. I see a lot of individual efforts, defense pinching when they have no business doing so and getting out of our end or fighting off a good forecheck has us constantly in a panic scramble most times. No I don't think they are playing that great.

Our team isn't playing all that great right now but there were some good signs from the top line last night. Our defensemen are trying to force the action but taking way to many risks on pinching with nobody behind them. Yes Smith did one of his bonehead plays but the team needs to get better collectively.

Goalies get beat, we won the game 2-1 just like Smith as in some of the last few games. Why must you keep going on about our goaltending ? No matter how hard you try you will not be setting up the schedule. LOL

Smith has been answering the call as part of the Goalie answer for us. I don't see BT making a change. Now get BSD back I for a few games.

As I said, it appears management is taking the necessary measures to make their decision. Either way they will have to live with it. I am saying I wouldn't make a change and would live with the experience this season. How far it takes us is anybody's guess.

I believe these games are the bi deciding factor with Smith because its not an simple decision on their part. I have to imagine Smith is a well liked room presence and great support for Rittich. You also have to take into consideration that if you bring in a Howard you are going to play him. Do you push the horse you have been riding into another stall now ? and how does this effect the team psychy. This is by no means a simple decision.

I wonder if some of these posters only watch the Flames I haven't seen any Goalie that doesn't allow soft goals in practically all games. I think it has a lot to do with the pace of the game these days, blink and it could be in your net.

If you are going to write a guy off and consider bringing in someone else do you not think playing him and feeling comfortable with that decision is equally important. Rittich has answered the bell, they know what they have in him now.

Not sure what you guys are worried about. Smith has been good and gaining his confidence back. Isn't this what we wanted to see from him ? We are heading towards the TDL and if management is going to do anything they are going to give Smith some rope here for their decisions.

Like I said above he is 1 of the 3 best at bringing the puck into the O zone and appears to be trusted on the 2nd PP unit by his coach to do so. His points are based on his hard work. I mentioned slick moves with relevance to gaining the O zone. How is him playing RW on the same line as playing C on the same line, big difference you don't appear to recognize. His game is building within all these areas you mention and he should keep growing with each progression. He likely won't get consideration at C for the rest of this season but could come next season.

Agree with the rebound comment but you have to know this was yet another building block of confidence for him as a player.
