Somewhat I guess but I think he should be able to still provide some good starts and allow Rittich adequate rest. I think we all agree he is no longer the starter. Also I don't think we should be giving up assets for simply another back up unless either of these two gets long term injured.

I see a good situation evolving not one to be overly concerned about.

You guys spend way to much time on the effects of a Goalie coach at this level. There is nothing Sigalet can do to help Smith with his lack of confidence. He has to play through it but he has to play some games.

The one thing nobody is mentioning which can be very important is Smith being supportive of Rittich. We often hear about the value of mentorship and I believe we have that throughout this team. I wouldn't be to worried about leaving things the way they are now.

The situation has definitely become a delicate one. I am sure Smith is going through mental hell right now. I honestly don't think he will kill our chances should he be relegated to back up. All these other options are wild cards also and if you go after Bobrowsky he is going to cost assets this organization shouldn't be giving up IMO. Run with Rittich.

I would play Smith again. The team seemed happy for him, which means they will play hard in front of him.

I don't think his current game is so terrible that it doesn't go well wit wat we are getting from Rittich so far. Wasn't the idea this season that Smith play less, well he is now. I don't believe we should be panicking yet.

Something should definitely be done with that situation.

Barely even remember them so they couldn't have been that bad. The team is winning, Rittich has been stellar, I'm not to worried about Smith right now. Take a look around the entire NHL and tell me a goalie that is playing with any consistency. Seriously the game has changed so much to the shooters advantage, games like our one with TB which was epic had each goalie give up 5 goals each before a winner was declared. Fluke goals are everywhere every game, Smith has allowed his share but he as also made a lot of great saves at the right times to help win some games.

Not to mention Rittich could likely use a break after this last TB game. That was intense.

I hope so to because to be honest I don't think BT has any intention of seeing him out the door.

Coaches absolutely miss things and make the wrong call which can be the difference between having a winning season and a losing one. I don't think Smith has been any good since he got hurt last season. Harsh decision but if he doesn't come around real soon BT should release him.

Any team needs two goalies to win and especially us. What is happening with our two right now trying to manage the psyche of both. Undoubtedly Smith is causing some havoc now but you can't or shouldn't simply right him off. Rittich was to be the back up and if we are being honest with ourselves he is doing an outstanding job. The coaches IMO have the better feel for the situation than any sideline observations.

I don't think that should matter, change of scenario and challenge may be what Gilles needs right now. You aren't ever going to pick the perfect moment in time for these things. Let Gilles determine how long he stays.

I think you go to your own pipeline first. We can't keep saying Gilles isn't ready when he is 25. If he stinks you may have your answer for a significant change required.

If this is deemed such a problem to the game plan of the coaches then its on them to instruct Smith to stop doing that and get the puck to his defensemen.

Calgary Flames Drafting and Development: Your Analysis
MAC331 replied to rickross's topic in Flames Talk
It would be good to have 3 good drafts in row from here. Starting this offseason BT should be able to trade a player like Frolik and get additional level 2 or 3 round type picks. Take another 2 years and you can start considering trades of Backlund, Ryan and Neal. -
Calgary Flames Drafting and Development: Your Analysis

A prime example with respect to Bennett is on this team in Backlund. He was to be this offensive force and it never came leading to a few demotions to the minors to learn a defensive part to his game. Now some upteen years later he is considered one of the best all round forwards in the game. I wish they would put him on LW with Backlund and Frolik and leave him there. He has had to learn on the job in front of everyone and to be frank his management positionally has been so mishandled he is a mess. I feel for the guy seriously.
