  1. The only way you replace Hartley is if there's a coach better than him. No one is available yet. I remember wishing we could've gotten Quinville. I don't want to replace Hartley unless it's for a coach like Quinville. I am not saying exactly, because Quinville is boardering on being one of the best all-time now, so I don't expect that. I want a demanding, X&Os systems kind of coach, someone who can adjust on the fly.
  2. I've decided to put this in the Goaltending forum instead of Stockton only because we seem to have the same issues on the big club. Huska is on the fan as I write this, talking about how Poulin has been bumped/run more than any goalie he had ever seen. This is why he's day to day with an upper body injury. Good we get to see Schneider, but the bumps our goalies get are quite troubling to me. Even in the big club I feel like other teams don't pay for their extra stick shots or bumps on our goalies. We say that it's harder to protect the net now with the rules, but I find other teams always let us know it's not ok after the whistle.
  3. You almost feel bad for Hiller at this point now. His career dwindling down and hopes of having that one last good one.
  4. For me, I want to be harder to play against. Something I notice is we don't respond to players running the goalies or taking liberties in front of the net. With other teams we are always roughed up after play in front of their net.
  5. They've shown that they could play D from time to time lately, with all of those 2-1 Ortio losses. I do like it more lately, but I still think we have a long way to go. A good mobile shutdown in the Top4 would be perfect. This is why I wanted Hamonic, even at the expense of a Hamilton. Do you think Hamilton will be a lot like JBo? I just feel like we have a lot of mobile puck movers that we could use someone who is a bit more defensive.
  6. I think it's team play overall. Giving up too many grade-A scoring chances is a team thing. Goaltending can do so much, but it's the type of chances that are getting through. Albeit, it's the bad goal that also kills too. Instead of being down 2 from the Grade-A chances, you're down 3. That's tough to comeback from. I like how we all have different views on who's fault it is though. I just think it's bad overall team play, which in part is also the personnel. We don't have the final roster after a rebuild. We are still growing as a team and the team needs a better 3rd liner and an almost near overhaul of 4th liners. The 2nd Scoring Line isn't completed yet. We also need a shut down D in the top 4. It's not hard to play against us. I think that's our problem. Sure we match in hits, but we don't make it harder in our own end for the opposing teams.
  7. How long did Dwayne Roleston play?
  8. My bet is that MacD starts in the ECHL and if he works his way up, it's a good place to start.
  9. I think we are too worried about our goalie situation in the expansion draft. Our goaltending sucks and Gillies and Ortio are not extreme high end potential goalies. I admit it depends on what they do next year, but I doubt our team loses a goalie when other teams have so much better to choose from. We sound silly.
  10. If Stamkos doesn't help them win the Cup this year I can see them walk away from him. It's like having an expensive rental, only they're renting in-house on the hopes that he can push them over the edge. Although, if he is highly instrumental in helping them get far in the playoffs that might be reason to keep him as well. They part ways if he has a similar playoffs as last year. If he is as quiet as he was then they don't sign him.
  11. Not that I want Miller, but the Canucks are going to want to offload his contract this summer as Markstrom is pushing for a #1. Who knows with Demko coming into his own too, maybe their AHL #1 and only have to live with Markstrom for a few years while the build on the fly... He could be had for cheap since they are pretty much ready to part ways. Doesn't he only have one year left? His contract is expensive though.
  12. Does anyone know how long Brodie is out for, what his injury is?
  13. Let's trade Ortio for Brossoit!
  14. I agree. I think a lot of us tend to over-rate our players. They're using this non-playoffs as a learning tool again by concentrating on D which is now helping our Goaltending as much as the Goaltending is helping players be a bit more comfortable to take some chances. I also think that those rosters made the Crawford and Niemi in Chicago. But that allowed Crawford to get better while playing the position. With Detroit, they made Osgood better too, which also made Osgood play the position well.
  15. What is it, minus the .800 game?
  16. I agree and i think it is something Feaster touched on and started to do. Only BT is way more savvy in his deals, and signings seem to be good-ish. He did with Hiller and perhaps best he did a 2 year deal because if he made a 1-year, if he felt good about last year, he may have given Hiller an extra 2 years or so. I say he signs a goalie to another 2-3 years to wait and see what we have in Gillies and Macdonald. With the players he signed his first year, maybe he would've done two years in Raymond's case. That is if he had hindsight
  17. But if one of those D that plays with them becomes elite as well (Hamilton), then that makes three elites. Hamilton playing with Brodie makes Hamilton better in the long run. It is a win-win.
  18. Pekka Rinne was a back up his whole time too. I heard the story of how he got drafted but forgot it. It was cool though because his coaches told someone that they need to watch this kid play and I think they flew in just to watch him practice as the backup. They kept it quiet so no one else would see him.
  19. Ok, so, having Gillies in college is not the worst thing. He was getting developed there. Do you think that Demko should be signed to an NHL contract now? I don't think that having Gillies develop there was a terrible thing. Who knows if he would have gotten injured again. But apparently he still would have needed a surgery as it was a genetic thing with his hips. He was bound to lose a year anyway. Aside from the 5 games Ortio played last year, which was an extremely low sample size in which he floundered in his last game, and was trending downwards in each start prior to that last one, he didn't look like an NHL goalie. He looked like he needed another year in the AHL. So no, I don't think that needed to bring Ortio up, then have Gillies up.
  20. Are you two dating? This conversation makes me feel like I am watching an episode of Archer. Getting Backstrom had to be done to make the Jones for a 6th work. They can waive Hiller and send to Stickton to keep the goalie situation at bay. I think it is good asset management to get whatever we could for a guy we weren't going to re-sign and it is probably all we could get. I hoped for anything between a 4th and 6th and we got a 6th and a contract we could afford to eat. Hiller hasn't shown well so it would work to just shelf him for the rest of the year. Both probably end their careers in Europe.
  21. If we are considered contenders in 3-5 years that will be awesome! I think we have a great base, but it's going to be tough. Arizona and Edmonton are going to be really good too. Vancouver has a few decent young pieces. In the East I think there are a few teams that will be there too, like Buffalo and Florida. I think that 3 years is a perfect time for our D prospects to get acclimated to the NHL. And then, a year or so after hopefully contend. 5 years could be perfect. But then, I guess Geaudreau will be 27 and out of his prime.
  22. Lol I am only comparing him to the way Neiwendyk played the game. Was a coaches player and does what he is told and has skill but a defender. If you read the rest of the conversation you'd have seen that was as far as my comparison went. i highly doubt he turns into Niewendyk in the NHL as well.
  23. I don't think that they traded down to get Jankowski to play for Iginla, being an admitted 5 year project. Intellectual honesty would be considered in the pick. I don't think for one minute that Feaster thought this team didn't need a rebuild but was going by his marching orders to make the playoffs. I am not saying he was a good GM. I didn't think he was good at trading. I actually think they picked Jankowski to help in the long run. Would we prefer Maata, or Dumba? Right now yes.
  24. And that's what I mean. I am not suggesting he turns into Niewendyk, but I can see the qualities there. He is playing a very team first oriented style of hockey.
  25. Could it be possible that the high school league Jankowski played for is as good as the BCHL? I mean didn't Gaudreau basically come from a high school league too? Aren't they basically prep leagues for college hockey? One thing that's a huge bonus is, he is being developed for free, and developed a 2-way play with some really good instincts for the game. I can see the Niewendyk comparisons after Niewy got traded away for Iggy. Jankowski sounds like a coaches dream. So we are good there. All these years at Development Camp he has always been one of the higher skilled prospects, always flashing potential.
