Kehatch doesn't seem to think that is a fair assessment. While I think Fleury was probably goid in the regular season most years, I remember every year getting highlights of how bad he played. Last year and the year he won the cup are the only two I remember him being solid in. I know how bad he has been because I have a really good Flyer fan friend who posted his highlights/lowlights on Facebook every playoff, to point out just how bad a goalie fleury is. Something we talked about in length this year is our goaltending. Something we considered was the psychy our team got into when our goalies didn't make the save and the "here we go again" thought crept in and the team had already lost. That is how I see Fleury in the playoffs for a lot of those Pens years. He didn't look comfortable at all in most of those years since winning the cup.

I don't like Fleury. He had one good playoff and then was extremely shaky in most, if not all of the playoffs he played in after that. Now his backup is about to win the cup. I guess he is just a stop gap in hopes that Gillies, McDonald, or Schnieder steps up. None are guaranteed. Why not go for a guy we would know we last beyond in case our prospects don't make it?

I forget who we played this last season, but the backup was a college free agent. He played in beer league and a college scout or coach saw him play. The kid wasn't even going to go to college and they got him to play net. I forget the college, the player and the team. Maybe Nashville? Cool story though.

I've always seen Colborne as a fill in guy while the team rebuilds. Maybe he's a good 3rd line left winger

There are some players who just play better in the lower leagues that can't translate it to the bigger game. They have skill, yet other guys with less success in the A, make it in the NHL. -
Our AHL teams all around have been crap because of team play and goaltending. And drafting. Goalies need confidence, sometimes it takes a team to help that, and sometimes the goalie gives the team confidence too.

I think JJ is referring to the KHL goalie he is interested in, wanting him to buyout of his contract so he can come to the NHL.

I don't think you can compare leagues because the other leagues generate more money. For the longest time in basketball, players got paid for what they did, and that came in endorsement deals. Jordan only made about $3M/year, but over $100M in endorsements. I would still like to put a price on performance bonuses. Every player gets a base salary, but then that's difficult to judge and back in the day MLB pitchers would be sat in order to not get their bonuses... Tough to call.

I like the middle guys even more than the stars. A lot of the time they're harder workers and drive the team. But that's another conversation. Not when you have Lupal and co on the second line though... But ya.

This is why I think the NHL has gone too high with their star's contracts. Sure they deserve the money in a perfect world, but they also could price out any middle tier players thus making the NHL less entertaining. I just don't believe the revenue structure in the NHL is able to sustain the prices of the higher calibre players. This is my view: Sure Kane, Toews, Crosby deserve the 10m, I guess... They've won cups and are the top of their games. I really think they should only go to 8. This is why Subban doesn't deserve 9m. He hasn't done anything to warrant that contract. I think he is a 7.5 guy. And that's where the next tier down should be. I think that the Gaudreaus and Monahans should be around 5.5. I get the argument that they don't have a team built yet so they don't really have a chance of making the playoffs... But they're not at the level yet to get you success. That's when they should be bumped up to 7.5M, when we're a consistent playoff team. When we're winning cups. That's in a perfect world though.

I don't see why Quebec or Ontario shouldn't have more teams. Quebec deserves a team more than a lot of the States teams. Ontario could probably house another team without it affecting the Leafs and it would bring more revenue to the league.

I think Hartley got away from developing the young players. He moved from a building the future mentality to a win now at all costs one. Until this last season he was good, but he stopped giving prospects and players he didn't know the leeway to improve and be trusted. There were a few prospects in previous years that he didn't help. Wotherspoon and Baertschi are two that most of us discussed. Nakladal was one this year who may have helped the Flames make the playoffs had Hartley shown trust in him earlier in the season. He improved a lot this year and I look forward to the possibility of him in a 5/6 role next season. -
I would take a 50 game starter and have Ortio play the other 30. Ortio has looked ok as a backup and as long as he gives the team a chance to win, that is the main thing.

I guess the strategy has to be then, which teams still have term on both goalies.... Any of the UFAs could be a risk then, unless the rule of having to protect a NMC and that goalie has one...

He did have blunt comments about Baertschi. I can see him say what he said about Colborne. They can't sign him to over 3. They don't have the space or financial plan to do it.

Tweeting opinions is going to be like a game of telephone, sometimes the message changes. Maybe Burke mentioned they'd like to play a tougher game, something that Bollig brings, Maybe he said something about playing that type of player more from the 4th line and because he mentioned Bollig, the guy thinks Bollig gets more ice. I like the 4th lines that are playing. They have some skill but they bring energy and kill time that allows the stars to get some much needed rest. Bollig doesn't do that, but there are players like him or a bit better that do. I think he is just referencing a kind of game he prefers from the 4th and that's not new to us.

His logic is that you protect the RFA, I guess Pheonix means that he'd take the gamble on the UFA. If you want the UFA, an extension would probably be made or you'd trade him at the trade deadline.

But Allen has been pro long enough that the blues have to make a choice to protect one of them. It does not matter about RFA status, it only matters whether they have 2 seasons of pro experience.

So who is going to be available if the expansion draft happens? So my guess is: Allen or Elliott Fleury or Murray Bishop or Vasilevsky? I think that it will be Bishop and Fleury on the trading block and I don't know who the Blues prefer, Allen or Elliott?

Maybe they trade both RNH and Eberle together to get that guy. Those two might be the ones who definitely need a change of scenery. But Yakupov especially, but he might be a good gamble to a team who can trade them a depth forward and maybe a middle round pick, IF they value his former 1st OA status.

This is why I think they can trade down. Trade down for a good bottom 6 forward, get a good D in the draft at 7 or 8th overall. They have enough impact forwards up front but not enough depth. I think the oilers are going to be scary good in two years. I don't want them to be

I think we get someone to fill in for a few years. Like you just said Phoenix, I am keeping my expectations low because we can't really afford a big money guy right now anyway. I think we sign one to 4.5m?
