  1. As they always have and likely always will 🤌
  2. What a first for the Flames. As I was saying adamantly all off-season, we had yet to see the best of Mangiapane. Gudbranson with another apple. Awesome.
  3. Been pleasantly surprised with Gudbranson. Had a brutal turnover in this one but otherwise he's looked real solid in the first 3 games. Much better than the preseason. Kylington can straight up fly, man. He was really impressive against the Wings. Had 2 great chances offensively and was solid in his own end for the most part, even throwing the body around. Jury is still out on Monahans ability to bounce back this year. Hes been damn near invisible so far but he was also playing with Looch and Lewis in this one. All in all, outside of a sloppy start and a rough second there was lots to like. Looking forward to some more solid defensive hockey. GFG!
  4. If we are going to go with a 4F PP again, I hope Valimaki and Kylington get some chances on on of the units. They have the tools and it could help their confidence to make offensive plays 5v5.

Wouldn't mind Stone back tbh. He looked pretty good in the limited viewings this past season and still has a cannon.

Seattle has a solid goalie rotation going into this season. Guessing Francis planned around signing Grubauer from the start
  7. Rotational A's for the year has my vote. At least until someone steps up and earns the C. Some combination of Backlund, Tanev, Tkachuk, Lindholm, and Monahan.
  8. Considering what Landeskog will get in FA he doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the Flames as a target. LHS LW that doesn't generate scoring chances as well without Mackinnon and Rantanen.
  9. Lol, been following as much as I can today. Sarcasm abounds. Good stuff. I will reserve judgement until after. Couple comments on the first round. Surprised Wallstedt went that much later than Cossa. Coronato seems like a solid pick. Lots of upside. I've been a huge supporter of getting more Mangiapane-style forwards in the system and he fits that mold. RHS, and plays all three forward positions. Lot of people I talk to back home wanted Lucius but he fell to the Jets pick when we didn't take him so perhaps there's something the scouts know that we don't.
  10. I am emotional seeing Gio taken. Other than Iginla he is the only captain of this team I have known. Whatever your feelings are toward him this is definitely the end of an era and I wish him the best of luck in Washington state. That said this leaves us with a little cap to play with and seeing as EDM has given Hyman a deal until he's liver-spotted i hope we are much more intelligent with it.
  11. I didn't know this but it doesn't surprise me how his career has gone since. He actually had a promising start/solid rookie campaign despite the horrific plus minus.
  12. Realistic target. Considering our penchant for reclamation projects.
  13. Of the backups listed I really like Halak, and Dreidger. Issues would be age for Jaro, and potential salary for Dreidger.
  14. I agree with this. Wallstedt looks great but we are in greater need of both high-end forward and D prospects.
  15. Trading assets we should hold onto just for the sake of more shots at the board is the poor asset management I was referring to, but whatever. Let's pretend you didn't know that. Never once were my arguments against his trade value. They were against trading him at all, regardless of value. Mangiapane was our most consistent performer game in and game out, and he's more than proven capable of handling a top 6 role imo. He's the type of dog you want in a fight you're trying to win, because he's the breed of player you win with. I get it though, you're not happy with this squad. Just like you never have been, and likely never will be.
  16. I'm not struggling with anything. I dont believe we should sell at all. Whether his value is high, low, or nonexistent. So again, no I do not agree with you. What I will say is trading Mange is foolish. Here you have a proven top-6 play driver and you want to flip him for a very slim chance of finding someone better in the late first or second round. We don't exactly have a great track record drafting studs in the late first. Thats straight up poor asset management IMO.
  17. I'm not entirely sure how you came to the conclusion that I support your take in any way after reading my post. So allow me to make it clear as day. I do not. Gaudreau has played in the top 6 with top PP time his entire career. Mangiapane has improved his play with much less ice-time, less PP time and less consistency in terms of both linemates and positional usage. All of this with stronger possession numbers than Gaudreau. Apples to Oranges.
  18. I fully disagree with the notion that Mangiapane has peaked, as I believe his best hockey is still ahead of him. We are talking about a player who has improved significantly every season of pro hockey he has played and has among the best 5v5 possession metrics in the league, and his "sell-high" value is a 2nd rounder? Foolish imo.
  19. Elite 5v5 player in emergence here. Exciting to watch.
  20. Realistically I think Bennett was too good for Junior after he was drafted. Much like Monahan and Tkachuk. Where we went wrong IMO is not giving him responsibility right away like we did Monahan and Tkachuk and allowing him to grow into the role. He had a solid rookie year with Backlund, but after that we should have been developing him as a top 6 center. Had it worked out close to or better than how it did with Monahan, we'd have a pretty good 1-2 punch down the middle. Which I think might have been the original plan before the 2015 season fooled management into thinking our rebuild had succeeded just 2 years in and we were suddenly contenders.
  21. The development of prospects has always been an issue with this club unfortunately. For every Brodie and Gaudreau we have 10 other failed prospects. It worries me because a lot of the guys we have in the system have pretty respectable ceiling potential.
  22. Fair enough, and I agree. This just shows that despite being semi-retired since his LA days, Sutter-style hockey can still be effective in today's game. LA had very strong advanced stats during his tenure. Change is needed for sure and watching some of the teams in this year's post-season I wholly believe we need some size in the forward corps, and not strictly big bodies but guys that can skate and fill a role as well.
  23. https://thewincolumn.ca/2021/05/21/calgary-flames-2021-fourth-quarter-offensive-report-cards/ Final quarter reports for the players. At this point its pretty fair to say Mangiapane is one of our most important pieces, and easily our best 5v5 forward. This also shows how good the top line was past just the eye test.
  24. I agree with this. It seems like Parros is waiting for someone's career to be ended before DOPS dole out a legitimate punishment.
