  1. I think a common misconception about Tkachuk and perhaps this plays into his brand and even upped our return for him is the idea of his toughness. I think his compete level is high, he’s a pest and tough to play against in that sense. However he’s not scaring anyone out there, he’s not even a great fighter. FLA had this sense they lacked toughness after losing to Tampa in the playoffs. I think this idea that Tkachuk makes your team “tougher” was a huge sell BT dug into. Tkachuk draws penalties and aggravates players but he’s not feared like in a Lucic way. If anything he gets into trouble when he’s trying to live up to the idea of him being a tough guy
  2. Not sure I’d want both Weegar and Huberdeau locked up to 7 yr deals. Huberdeau x 7yrs is something BT has to do or trade him. Weegar I’d prefer on a 5yr deal max. If we can’t extend Huberdeau then I could see teams like Montreal sending a serious haul for his services if we end up moving him.
  3. BT did well, it’s easily the best trade for the Flames since we acquired Hanifin, Lindholm. With the great haul we got I wonder if BT pressed the fact that we’ve already helped FLA when we got fleeced by sending over Bennett who’s now a 20-30 goal scorer for them? Flames really are much more flexible now without being anchored by the $20M to Tkachuk and Gaudreau. If we can secure a nice RW sniper somehow that would be ideal. If we magically acquire Barzal that would really fill some of that puck moving , play making ability we lost with Gaudreau.
  4. Barzal would be a great addition, Sutter type player?…not so sure but it could work here. Monny has already been written off on these boards lol..to think he was once out top C. Apparently things change quickly in Calgary! If there’s anyway we can secure a pure sniper for that 1st line…we’d be a pretty well balanced team moving forward. And did Stone sign elsewhere already or is he still part of the Flames plans ?
  5. You must be hard to please JJ! Considering the scenario and the fact we didn’t really have much leverage with Tkachuk this return is very, very good. We get an elite winger, top 4 D man, by all accounts a good prospect and a 1st. I’m honestly not sure too many GMs could have done better in this situation…a lot of ppl feel Huberdeau alone is fair value return. Completely get the apprehension regarding extending them but BT did a really good job with the return assets. Curious to know what the other potential offers were!
  6. I hear ya, seemed like a good opportunity to reset with some new young high end talent…I still like this trade. It’s good value for Calgary and brings some nice flexibility to the lineup. We could still move Monny for some prospects and picks too…I doubt BT is done. We lost 2/3rds of our 1st line so there’s still work to be done. Could Monahan for Barzal work??
  7. Was just saying the one stat that doesn’t show is Huberdeaus leadership. I was never a fan of Tkachuk being a Captain, Huberdeau will bring some invaluable tools that Matty just doesn’t have yet.
  8. Love Tkachuk, wish him well. Think of him during that Dallas series…his antics were pretty ineffective and he took some lame penalties trying to be the fighter on the team. He’s good but he doesn’t possess the skill that is captaincy that Huberdeau brings
  9. We are currently better off now than we would have been being handcuffed to $20M between Johnny and Tkachuk. We just to need to plug a few more holes up and we could be in better shape than last years squad
  10. They were chirping me HARD after Gaudreau and Tkachuk news dropped! Now their comeback is that Huberdeau will extend the Habs after next year! Other than that it’s crickets. They don’t like this trade which means it’s a very good trade lol
  11. He’s the under the radar gem of the trade. Weegar is very good, we lose Gudbranson and replace him with Weegar? Yes please! That RHD is even more key! It’s a very nice haul for the Flames
  12. Wow. What an off season this has been! I like the trade. I get the concern with the lack of extensions and the age of the players but I don’t think BT does this without doing his homework on getting them extended. I’m not too concerned at the moment. Great haul, this is essentially the kind of return we needed, 1 franchise player for another plus the prospect and pick. Can’t be mad at BT for this one!…Atleast not yet!
  13. Exactly! This has to be an impactful transaction for this franchise. This can’t be a middling return packaged with draft picks from 2029. Home run. I’m not even sure “fair” cuts it..this has to be a clear cut win, we damn near deserve a fleecing at this point
  14. This is possibly the most important trade in Flames history. Treliving has got to get this one right. We need a major win..anything less and it’s one of the most shameful examples of asset mismanagement in hockey.
  15. I’m trying to think of another organization that has lost both of its top 2 players in this fashion. Your strategy is ideal in our case, if we can find the right partner…we might be heading toward a “mini” rebuild here, it’s pretty unbelievable…fresh off of winning our division. If we do end up trading Tkachuk then it’s going to be the trade that defines Trelivings legacy as a Flame let alone his job!
  16. Holy high hell what has happened to the Calgary Flames? We were just in the playoffs cheering this team on and now Tkachuk and Gaudreau are gone! It’s already blown up here!…nothing but Bombs being dropped on the Flames! Now we await what comes out of the ashes. Hyper disappointing how this all unfolded but the opportunity this could present! Depending how this shakes out we should be flush with cap space in a tight cap era, some extra picks in what’s slated to be a upcoming deep drafts, it’s a fresh start and could be a blessing in disguise 🥸 …maybe
  17. You mean an ownership that tried to bully more than it’s fair share out of the City and it’s tax payers for a new arena deal?…then came to an agreement with the city, shook hands and held press conferences, only to back out of the deal at the last second…and proceed to lay blame on the city and the tax payers? An ownership that has just watched its star players shun a future with the organization? This organization reeks of toxic at the moment
  18. Not pulling the trigger on acquiring Eichel is looking more and more like a lost opportunity. That hindsight is a real bish!
  19. It’s been a terrible off season for the Flames, maybe the worst summer for the franchise? I’m sure we’ll be updating the Tkachuk thread soon with farewells. It’s bad luck, poor asset management all striking at once. Depending what we get for Tkachuk we are looking like we’re out of playoff contention for the foreseeable future. We’ve gone from a bright future to a dim one in a matter of weeks 😫
  20. Thankfully I never purchased a Gaudreau jersey as he never did seem committed 💯 long term. Nothing will beat the one time I saw a guy rocking a Flames Brouwer jersey in Edmonton.
  21. That my worry Is Klingbergs asking price. $6.5M I’m fine with anything above $7M I’d consider overpay. He’s a good D man albeit maybe not a game changing one.
  22. Settle down Doc…it was just a joke. We do lack star power at the moment though , no getting around that!
  23. Sadly it’s sounding like that’s exactly what Johnny did. He said he’d had CLB “circled for awhile”. This wasn’t new, this was very much pre meditated. He knew he was NEVER going to resign. Was never an option and yet he played along and pretty much threw up the middle finger the fans base and the organization. All of this could have been avoided.
  24. Hopefully BT is in on Klingberg at a decent price! Looks like our D is the teams strength at the moment, might as well get one the elite D msn available. I’d consider Kadri but not at $8.5-9M. As of right now..we’re pretty much an AHL team lol
