  1. Pretty close based on AHL results. Rittich has better numbers, but Gillies has been really good recently. Gillies played really well against the Kings, so I give him the edge as a potential backup. That's just me though. The Flames have more stake in Gillies, but they could just keep him in the AHL until they need him. As a backup to Elliott, he wouldn;t get any playing time.
  2. The coach and GM have been strangely silent about CJ. He obviously wasn;t healthy enough for #82, since Rittich was an emergency recall. I hope to hear he is back, cuz we need a NHL goalie as a backup. Elliott will start every game as far as I can tell.
  3. Don't necessarily need a 2nd goalie today. B2B for the Heat and a couple critical games for them this week. If CJ isn't back by Tuesday, will likely get one of them back here (or in Cali).
  4. The Heat are playing tonight. Rittich played the last game for them. The Heat are on the cusp of a playoff series. I guess you also have to keep the guy playing who may be your NHL backup for the playoffs.
  5. Sure, ignore it for another 50 years and some future generation should have to deeal with it. No point in developing land if you can use existing land. If it was an oil spill, Jane Fonda and Leo DiCaprio would be up here preaching about the spoil of our civilization. <sarcasm off>
  6. In the immortal words of Ghostbusters, never cross the streams.
  7. I don't think they can even put a price on it today. You would have to do a full assessment to know the true costs, and that is only valid for today's prices. There is no way that the current mayor wants to do anyting with it, with a potential $1b cost. Realistically, it's a cost that would have to be borne by three levels of government, though.
  8. Guys, let's keep the opinions away from borderline personal attacks.
  9. I find it odd that the mayor would be saying the old proposal was dead. He is not the council, so he only has voting rights in the event of a tie, if I remember my civics correctly. Councils can be swayed by mayors, for sure. Maybe the CGY proposal should have included building an office tower that they could lease a good portion of floors to the city.
  10. No, I would play Engelland on his off side. Give Engelland a rest? As in a healthy scratch? No, I would play him because he is one of the better PK d-men we have. Does he need a better partner than Bart? Yes. I think that Engelland can provide some structure to allow Andersson to provide some offense. He has a cannon and is smart offensively.
  11. I don;t think the 3rd pairing has looked that good recently. If I had my drothers, I would put in Andersson. Sit Bart for a game.
  12. Brodie/Stone pass the eye test, but their fancy stats are no better than Brodie/Wideman. What I do find is that the new pair offers things such as containment, hitting and lack of deflecting the puck in their own net. The sample size is way too small to be able to make any realistic assessment. I do like most of what I have seen. Brodie is still trying to do too much stickhandling under pressure.
  13. You guys are getting worse..... I heard it from a reliable source that Brian Burke hates ties.
  14. I agree. I have been hoping that he would come over here for the last little while. I like the kind of game he brings. Reminds me a bit of Regher, without the awesome offense. Actually, I could care less about the offense as we don't have anyone other than Engelland that provides that big body, hard hitting presence. AT least that's what I remember of AOM. Though he looked good in the WJC until he got injured.
  15. Elliott is the 3rd star for the week: https://www.nhl.com/news/brad-marchand-sidney-crosby-brian-elliott-named-nhl-3-stars-of-week/c-287895452?tid=282747176 THIRD STAR - BRIAN ELLIOTT, G, CALGARY FLAMES Elliott went 3-0-0 with a 1.95 goals-against average and .926 save percentage to help the Flames (41-27-4, 86 points) maintain third place in the Pacific Division. He made 32 saves - and turned aside all three attempts in the shootout - in a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins March 13. Elliott then made 24 stops in a 3-1 win against the Dallas Stars March 17 and 19 saves in a 5-2 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings March 19. In doing so, he earned his 11th consecutive victory (1.70 GAA, .942 SV%, 2 SO) to tie Mike Vernon (Jan. 17 - Feb. 27, 1989) for the longest such run by a goaltender in franchise history. The 31-year-old Newmarket, Ont., native owns a 23-13-3 record with a 2.46 goals-against average, .911 save percentage and two shutouts in 41 appearances this season, his first with the Flames. Finally some league love for the Moose. Well deserved.
  16. The most recent stuff I heard was centered around Victoria Park. The 2nd choice. And it seems that a venue that could revitalize an area, put people to work, and draw investors is exactly the type of project that a city should be involved in. EDM committed millions in known and hidden deals, but it's not going to sink the city.
  17. They may lose some revenue from the Heroin Beer being replaced by Labatts or Coors or Bud or whoever gets the deal.
  18. March 15, 2017 The Sports Xchange Posted with permission from The Sports Xchange Republish Reprint The NHL lost its appeal of a neutral arbitrator's ruling that Calgary Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman's 20-game suspension for assaulted linesman Don Henderson in a Jan. 27, 2016, game be reduced to 10 games. Full story: http://monday-morning-qb.blogspot.ca/2017/03/nhl-loses-appeal-involving-wideman.html
  19. Nit pick if you like. I read it wrong. It was indeed a low risk way of seeing if he can impress enough for a AHL deal next season.
  20. On another note, Tim Harrison has signed an ATO to play in Stockton. His college career is done. Pollack is now up with Stockton because of Klimchuk's injury.
  21. Kulak injured. Culkin may be injured because he's not in the lineup and not assigned to Addy. Kanzig is playing. Spoon was playing with Andersson on the 1st pair. Andersson now in CGY.
  22. Here is what is waiting for you if your use of said "unmentionable on Flames Forum" word impacts the game negatively......
  23. I like Versteeg, but he is a RHS on LW. I think he sets up for one timers well on the off wng, but is a bit of a liability for setting up Bennett. If you were going to insert Janko on the 3rd line, then you can choose between playing him at C or playing him on LW. Either Bennett has a skilled playmaker on wing or a big center to take the draws. No need to trade Bennett for NH.
  24. Pretty hard to bump up his SA% withe the poor start to the season. His last five starts were .943, .946, .966, .971 and .920. CJ has had a rougher time. His last 5 starts have two above .900, which were his only wins. I think CJ plays better now as a backup. He lost the starter net, but can play well cold off the bench.
