  1. He got a goalie that pplayed well behind a good team. Now he has a goalie that played okay behind a bad team.
  2. By the sounds of it, Drai is looking for 9. His agent is miffed about losing that first year towards UFA status. Not worth 9. More like a Tarasenko than Malkin. One good year does not entitle you to that kind of money.
  3. I think the MSM is the ones saying we are trying to keep up with EDM. We were trying to get Hamonic last year, when he was looking to be moved. That was before EDM was even relevant as a playoff team. If you are looking to contain McDavid, then replacing Wideman is a good start. As to getting the people of Calgary to rally behind the NEXT project, that will have to wait for the new mayor.
  4. The term predatory is correct. This isn't a thing where you do it to get the player, just do it to mess with the Oilers. Chia and Oilers management have made some enemies in the years, so there is a chance a team does it. We can't. Vegas absolutely could. BOS may feel like they should.
  5. Skills-wise, he fits. Serious offer? Don't know that they could offer $5m for him. If not, it might have been a quick phone call.
  6. Where does he fit? A LW that would need a 35+ contract? Same risk with Williams, but I see more of a fit for him. EDIT - I was really interested in Marleau before he signed his last contract. Still has the juice, but I just don't see the fit here, is all.
  7. I don't doubt they have talked to him, but I'm not sure this twitter feed is that reliable. Has Calgary interested in Marleau?
  8. I wonder what the market for Mason looks like now. Not many teams that will offer him a starter role, maybe none. The Jets are probably going to sign Elliott. Think Philly is going with Neuwirth. At $2m x 2, do you think Mason would be a good fit? Would he even take that.
  9. well I think they have enough of last year's team and some add ins to ice a team. They lack effective depth now. No reason to think they won't trust Brossoit to see how he does. He's waiver eligible, IIRC.
  10. With McD reported to be signing for $13.25m they have no ability to pay anything for a defender. Russell was their big win.
  11. They is never us. They is them. BTW, Halak is signed for this year, so it would need to be a trade.
  12. That is just insane. They can't afford him for one thing. What is this fetish they have for ex-NYI players? BTW, Eklund posting this as a rumour doesn't make it "word".
  13. Foo will get a shot at making the team, just as Shinkaruk and the others will. They have a short window to impress. Foo will be luckier as he should get to go to the dev camp, along with the Flames recent draftees. The Flames brass will be there to watch Foo, Valimaki and Ruzicka, as well as guys like Mangiapane and Falkowsky.
  14. Are you talking about Gio's media comments or GG's? I think what happen in the room is much more important that what is said to the media. Gio is respected in the room. If Smith is going to berate his team mates on the ice after a bad play, then the team is going to have issues. Communicate. Fine. Discuss things and demand better. Fine.
  15. Think you may be looking at the wrong Hayes. Hayes in his junior year (same as this year for Foo) was 6g 19a in 27 games. His senior year was 27g 38a in 40 games. Foo was 26g 36a in 38 games in his junior year. The big difference is the size, which I mentioned.
  16. His last year scoring is similar to Hayes, though Hayes was a senior. Hayes had Johnny. Foo had Vecchione. Perhaps similar ceilings, though Hayes has NHL size going for him.
  17. Thanks for the response. It was an open question to those wanting to sign Stone for $3m or more. If he is just depth in case of injury, then why go beyond a player like Folin. I don't even know you can get Franson for 2.5 or Stone for 3.
  18. Who would you rather have? Stone for $3.0m x 2 years, and a 5th rounder Franson for $2.5m x 2 years Folin for $1.5m x 2 years
  19. I looked at what was out there. BU's making more than $1m and available are Kuemper and CJ. I can't bear the thought of Curtis M. again.
  20. Compared to most of the guys that signed as backup, that's quite a bit.
  21. Buffalo was due to Lehner being injured on day 1. We signed him for a lot for a backup.
  22. The talk before the Smith signing was Gillies and Rittich in the AHL and Parsons in the ECHL. At least that's how I remember it. At this point I don't know what the plan is. They likely want to look at good BU options in the summer.
  23. It's not that I like or dislike him. It's the body of work that ended his time here. Had he been consistent past December, he would be a lot stronger candidate.
