  1. He's had some cold stretches, but is 3g 1a in his last 4. He's better when Pospisil in in the lineup, as is the team overall.
  2. Iggy was a hero here and will always have that status. Gaudreau was on pace to be as much of a franchise player as him, but for different reasons. Both moved on and we have nothing to show for it. The name means nothing if the player isn't of that same stature, other than being a feel good story. I'm so tired of having a middling team because we worry as much about feel good stories as good teams. No, this isn't trashing them for the community work or Snowy, this is about rewarding for mediocre play. So far, I think we are doing a better job in being honest about the team. The summer presser with Maloney seems to have faded and was more or less expectations. The reality is we have to trade.
  3. It will be difficult to justify a Calder win if he plays less than a half season. He deserves it due to his impact to the team. Faber's 31 points in 51 games is meh for totals, except he's a D. 4 goals over that span. What's impressive is the TOI. P/GP, only Bedard is standing alone. Zary is #2 in that regards. 0.64 P/gp The other guys are around 0.56 and on pace for less than 50.
  4. Hanifin at 7.5 x 8? He's na;ready played close to 10 years, most at an okay level. Does he have some flair? Sure. Does he make poor reads? Sure. Is he worth 7.5? Nope. I really only like his offesnive game, and that's not always, just sometimes. I think we can do a lot better for that kind of money.
  5. nhl rookie scoring: c. bedard: 39 GP, 15-18-33P b. faber: 50 GP, 4-26-30P m. rossi: 50 GP, 13-15-28P a. fantilli: 49 GP, 12-15-27P c. zary: 41 GP, 12-14-26P
  6. He's already been (reportedly) offered a very nice deal here. He could have signed by now but hasn't. That should be pretty telling to us fans. Lindholm was (again reportedly) offered >$9M here and we traded him. A sign and trade works if he wants to go to a specific team. It basically is designed around the receiving team. I know what you are saying that this seems to be the logical conclusion. Without it, the receiving team has to immediately negotiate. Determine whether he is re-signing or not. But that does allow them to construct it a certain way. But, I suppose that a sign and trade would be exactly the same looking. I am of the opinion that we are in the last stages of a trade. No proof, but I think Hanifin has decided he wants to move on. That's just recent, since no bidding war has happened. That might be the GM holding back and wanting to first use Tanev in trade. Both are good trade assets for different reasons. If a retained salary inclusion nets an additional asset, that would be a plus.
  7. Wolf recalled with Vladar listed as day to day. Hmmmm.
  8. That was a summer trade and there were no UFA's left that were any good. Trying to swing a trade like that at TDL is quite difficult, if not impossible due to his AAV. IMHO, the summer would be when the Flames make that choice. There would need to be other things happening to make it logical. Wolf being an AHL All Star (oops, already happened). Beginning of a major retool (might get there soon). Ownership and GM thinking it was time to rebuild from the net out. Somebody here is going to laugh, but I think we should be making a play for a goalie not in the NHL to replace Marky. Wallstedt or Askarov or whatever. We have Wolf, but that is one piece. We have some decent trade chips right now. We don't have to use them to just get picks. Think bigger.
  9. I would say the only way we get a D back in trade now is if they have a young one that they want to swap with a vet D. I don't think is likely to happen. Van was a team that had too many F and getting a C/RW meant they had to cut a F. And we actually didn't have any depth on F unless we got back a F. The trade, even without Kuz, was still a good trade. I doubt we see that same level of return for Hanifin or Tanev.
  10. A 2nd by itself is nothing (obviously not the Leafs) unless it's from a team like CBJ or such; even then it's meh. A 2nd and a top prospect would be closer to the value we SHOULD expect.
  11. I doubt they really are even looking at it this year. Maybe if the offer was too good to pass up they would.
  12. In an interview with Francis, Markstrom suggested that the decision on what to do with Markstroim rests with the Flames. That doesn't sound like someone unwilling to waive his NMC. But we have also heard that Flames won't ask unless solid lead. I am a bit betwixt and between on this one. One one hand, trading an expensive starter could benefit the team for years to come. We gain a ton of cap space and whatever assets we get in the trade. We could bring up Wolf and get him ready to be the starter a lot sooner than later. The losses might pile up, but this is a good year to toss, since we have already lost 1C. We actually see what Wolf is capable of, and possibly what Vladar really is. This year he hasn't looked great. On the other hand, we spent years looking for a starter after Kipper. Only recently have we found one that we liked enough to run longer than a season or two. Wolf may be part of the solution, but it might be a long wait to have him as a true starter. Losing sucks the life out of teams.
  13. 5 and a game is only for the game it happens. He didn't get suspended after the fact.
  14. The unfortunate truth is that the lottery sucks. Teams are willing to give up a pick when they don't think they have a chance at 1st overall. But they are quick to realize that a future year may be different. The bigger problem is that we were dumb enough to trade a first to move a player and get nothing in return. That's contender stuff when you have a useless player to get rid of killing your cap. Or you need to move a pick to get an exciting player in return at TDL.
  15. So, if I am reading it correctly (hate the double team conditions) you said that if Philly gets FLA's 2024 pick, we automatically get the FLA 2025 pick regardless of 1st overall or not. When I look at the conditions in the CGY trade, it says that if 2025 is a lotto pick, we get the 2026 pick. I tend to agree with the way you stated it here.
  16. The sub-scenarios get to me. If FLA's 2025 pick is a lotto pick we get the 2026 pick from them. If that's the case, and we got 1st overall in 2025, MTL gets the 2026 pick, whichever is better. Only then is it possible for MTL to get a 1st overall from us. Most likely outcome this year is MTL doesn't get CGY's pick. We would have two 1st rounders this year. Most likely outcome next year is that MTL takes FLA's pick. Or the better of non-top 10 picks from FLA or us. Really the big risk is that two teams are both historically bad for the next couple of years.
  17. That would be my expectation. With Lindholm trade, I didn't expect to get a F back. But we did get two D future prospects. I would want a C back in a trade for Hanifin (or Tanev), but that may not work. At the very least we should be getting a 1st ++. We can always later trade the 1st for a C for a team needing a draft pick, but they didn't want to make the trade during the season. I know that sounds dumb, but sometimes that works.
  18. The Oilers are the media darlings just like TO. There is rarely any criticism of playing with no defense, pond style hockey. It's exciting for the fans, so they just don't care. Hope for a timely penalty call. Dive when you make a run through the crease. Toronto at least has more balls.
  19. What I was getting at was that a player on the program probably should be left alone. It's a tough enough business when you are not away from the game, facing criticism by fans and media, impact to home life and possibly having to uproot your family due to a last minute trade. I don't think a player going on this program says that they want a trade and can't play for the team anymore. That would be more of a Zadorov type thing.
  20. That's a stiff price to pay to get back a decent LW. At the very least, a retained salary transaction should not have us include any other assets. Can't say I know anything about Lilleberg, but maybe he should be the cost to retain salary. Honestly, TB is going to be difficult to deal with. They have spent their wad to get a contender.
  21. It's funny that Flames fans here tend to not consider cheering for the Nucks ot Oilstains. ANA is meh, and I hated the years of Perry, but I might consider cheering for them over a lot of East teams. The SHarks I was okay with. The Kraken is a team I have no real opinion on. The VGK? I find them to be just a team that took advantage of a draft set up to benefit them.
  22. I don't see how that would fly. A player gets a NTC because he negotiates it in. The team just can't trade him due to being away on a NHL sponsored program. The league has to approve the trade, to see if his NTC was respected. On a what makes sense view, you are on a break for mental health, substance abuse or such and the team is allowed to move you at will? How to does contribute to getting healthy again?
  23. As long as he isn't shooting on Markstrom. He was fearsome to face.
