  1. No doubt EF will have an article on how this happened, based on him watching this clip. We will probably hear at some point what FLA and TBL had offered. Good I guess to get the pick settled now for 2026. Unless a total collapse in FLA, we are giving up the FLA pick or a non top 10 pick in 2025. VGK is playing with fire, but they always manage to compete. Of all the teams in on Hanifin, I don't think some were serious offers. TOR would pay rental prices. Not really any that seemed to be willing.
  2. All I am getting at is we need to make the move this summer. We had the right idea at TDL, but for some reason we messed it up. Trade not done, player PO'd, missed opportunity. If the market is better in the summer, then have a bidding war. Or just accept the first bona fide offer that has spmething you want. Doesn't matter as long as you don't overplay your hand. BT always seemed to work it for weeks and he claimed to have drove a hard bargain. Misses out on other things due to that. I'm not convinced that the hard bargaining actually got us a better deal. Monahan, Jarnkrok, Toffoli costs were high. We need to be on the other end of those types of trades, like Sharky and Lindholm. I have no problem with the returns on the three UFA guys. My preference was less D coming back, but we had thinned out the stock of those, so overall we needed some. Next trades should be excess F, excess lower ceiling D and underperforming F. I like Kuzmenko, but he's like Mangiapane; a lot of money for them if they are not scoring. Mangiapane is blocking a development spot, if we want to think about Backlund's line as the bump line. Instill the 2 way play in the player, then when their scoring takes off, move them up.
  3. The Devil you know versus the one you don't...Sorry couldn't resist. So, if they circle back to the Debbies this summer, and they offer a similar offer, would we be wrong to accept it? Some might suggest that we cooled off because we want a last chance at playoffs. Or the idea that the salary retention was a deal killer. They claim to have dropped that, but by that point the dye may have been cast. One thing is likely. The Devils will have more pressure to get a goalie after they finish out the season. Goalie results from that team are going to be watched very closely by the fans and owners. TF has already said he wants the big fish. I don't know the market will be better for us or worse, but they already look like they want him. Saros, if even available, is going to be a lot more. The UFA market is thin. Trades may be only option.
  4. The reasons for trading him are mostly asset management. He has value now. In 2 years, his value may be very limited. Trade him this summer for a 1st in 2025 (if after the draft) + a high level prospect or player. Don't trade him and let him walk as a UFA in 2 years and have nothing. Have we somehow improved? If we decide to hold him for one last run next season and he regresses, then his value plummets to almost nothing. Missed opportunity. Again. I'm in the camp that we can't keep holding onto to very tradeable players thinking tthey will somehow have the magic and make us a contender. If you aren't building and improving, you are going backwards. We have very little in the F pipeline to get excited about. Our current roster has our best prospects on it already. Good enough for middle of the pack but not suddenly a top 10 team. Getting there and staying there should be our goal.
  5. We will soon have every injured and suspended player back. I'll reserve judgement until I see the lines, but this is the roster for next year. Is this a team that the GM expects to compete for a cup next year or simply the transitional look.
  6. Well that would be a strange twist. He didn't want to be here, COnnie was determined to trade people that didn't want to be here, and BOOM he wants to be here. I think it's a lot more simple, even if I don't agree with it. We signed him like it was day 1 or Free Agency. Have a known 4th line C on the roster for next season. Next season we have a complete roster already signed, with the exception of Kylington, Pelletier and Okhotiuk. 2 RFA and 1 UFA. We also could re-sign Greer. This is a little worrisome, since the GM could look at it and decide it's good enough and we don't look at roster additions or subtractions through trades. The available cap after the limited signings is still around $14M likely, which is a good thing.
  7. That's how I read it. When I was looking it up, I admit I completely forgot about Severson being traded. On further investigation, it was a sign and trade. That's a lot of work for a 3rd rounder you immediately trade away. Especially considering how good a player he had been.
  8. Trade tree from the point he was traded from CGY: Toffoli for Sharky + 2023 3rd Toffoli (50% retained) for a 2024 3rd (WPG) and a 2025 2nd But it's actually even worse than that. The 3rd was the return for Severson, right after he signed an 8 year dela there. Am I crazy or does sound totally insane?
  9. Considering they got little for Toffoli, paid for two goalies, and did little else, I don't know what they thought a top goalie would go for. D going for 1st ++. Hertyl going for a bunch. Guentzel going for a bunch. NJ has top paid players on long term deals. The rest of the F are young players or over the hill cheapos. A 1st and a player you trash is not going to win you any trades. And who knows what year 1st.
  10. Fitzgerald Regarding Conroy and the #flames : "There is a market. People performing have set that market. All I'm trying to do is be fair in that market, but you also need a team that wants to make fair deals, too, versus just extorting you for every big asset you have."
  11. I mean I get if they want to re-sign Kak. Have him as the backup, if he turns out. But then they are stuck with Allen. That's not exactly smart. Should have just traded for Kak, if they are going hunting.
  12. So what are they using for bullets to go big game hunting? Holtz torn down. UFA goalie and 2025 picks to use? Mercer and Holtz used on 3rd and 4th lines. 2nd PP unit.
  13. Okay then. Is it somehow going to be cheaper in the summer if they still want Markstrom or are they after bigger fish? Yes, they got rid of a contract that was past this season, which I guess makes sense. Trade younger goalie with a year remaining. Give up an asset for an older goalie with term with worse numbers. Bring in a stopgap goalie pending UFA to try out?
  14. Too bad we gave up the CHI pick.
  15. Maybe I am confused. WAS got a 3rd for him. WAS retained salary and CAR has to carry the rest. What did we miss out on?
  16. NJ with two new goalies will ruin their roster for another year. Good luck losers.
  17. Pelletier and Coronato maintain eligibility to play in the AHL playoffs as a result of today's paper transaction. They will still play tomorrow in FLA.
  18. I think we dodged a bullet there. Like it or not, we are keeping him away from our players. CAR has no issues with problem children. I find some of the trades for expensive players underwhelming. Zucker and Okposo for basically nothing.
  19. Well NJ traded for Allen, right? Conditional 3rd.
  20. Some of that is on themselves. Didn't want to deal with Eichel.
  21. We seem to have the market on every available LD and RD younger than 27. We have 11 D on the Wranglers before today's signing. New guy on an ELC, so I guess he is waiver exempt? Will be waiving Gilbert again I suspect. He's an extra now
  22. Great another player I will have to learn how to spell.
  23. Yeah, that piece I was hoping for in the Hanifin trade. Oh well, Vegas is not concerned about SJS competing with them next year.
  24. This may be a bad take, but the aim of the Flames never changed from the Maloney presser. Markstrom is a god and will carry us back to the promised land. We wanted all the players that didn't want to be here. We only moved them because they wouldn't sign for what we wanted to pay. We won against a poor playing Tampa and games against teams on a B2B Here comes the playoffs, until we start losing again. Why we will finish close to the playoff cutoff: - players gelled after all the media talk - the ones remaining want to be here and play for each other - we will win some games as spoiler and lose to spoilers Why we don't make the playoffs: - Markstrom the only reason why we had a chance in most games, so if has an off game, we lose - too many games against valid contenders and playoff teams
