  1. Okay, I will bite. What's wrong with Cody Glass and Fabbro? Do you think they are strictly cap dumps? Or you mean you don't want to give them assets to help them out?
  2. So, this question may be best answered by JTech.... Where he is from Russia, and was playing in a USA league, but was selected in the import draft by the CHL, what age does he have to be to play in the AHL? I don't mean the end of the season once CHL playoffs (his team) is done. I mean be able to play the entire season in the AHL. I know the rules are somewhat funky with non-Canadian kids that start in the USA.
  3. I believe we were in competition for him, along with Arvidsson. Like the latter, not so much the former. Locked up for 3 years. Hey, they didn't pay a lot.
  4. The common belief is we lost three D this summer and as a result won't be able to compete. The first part is 100% true, or at least 2 and 1 to likely follow. As to the 2nd part, we have 3-4 other players that played NHL D last year. And it's not even the end of silly season. Two of the guys were waiver pickups. Teams are carrying guys they will want to sneak through waivers when the summer is over. We never had roster space or cap to claim anyone. Between trades, waivers, camp performance. we may see some new faces. I think a coach like Huska will pass on needs to Connie, if he sees issues. And Connie already knows we needed a mid level D to add to the team. Analysts like to pronounce winners and losers on Day 1 of FA. And they look at teams and announce that they are now cup faves. Most of those predictions and so called winners turn out to have missed the mark.
  5. I flip a coin with Pelletier and Coronato. Both need a strong camp to win a spot. as a distributor, Pelts takes it, but it depends what we need in the vacant spot. 'nato should be pushing for a top 6 RW spot, but compared to what's there, he's only above Duehr.
  6. Earned meaning have a good camp and show that determination when you get a call up. 4th line or just getting a practice in. I complained a lot about Hunt getting picked to play, but honestly what have the others shown? Yes, the coach has to weigh more than just who looked best in practice. But if you aren't even causing the coach to have to make a decision on other factors, you aren't doing enough. We can't keep coming back to Monahan or Bennett. That was 3 coaches ago. Maybe more. We had other players sniffing at spots. We had vets that should have been sitting. Different GM. Too many things to use as a card against the team ideals. I think you had Pospisil and Zary at C. With Kadri and Backlund in the other C-spots, I struggled to see how that would work. Zary at WJC was a defensive C. I didn't watch Pops at the WC, but the NHL is players like Stamkos and Eichel etc. At home you can shelter them to learn and get used to it. On the road they are more likely to be exposed. Maybe the best idea is to have them paired with Kadri and they alternate. If they are winning most, then keep them there. If not then put Kadri there. Or Sharky or whatever. I'm thinking we get a top 6 C before camp. Either by trade or UFA. That would push out Rooney. Then we figure out what works at camp.
  7. Yeah, we probably all overrate him as being a top 6 player. His salary suggests that he still needs to prove it, even after all these years. Then again, is he as capable of hitting highs as Mange was? Different examples; one is high energy but physically not imposing, the other is opposite?
  8. I don't really know how to best set up the 4th line. Rooney is not the right choice if Lombo is there. And Lombo with Backlund wastes a development spot that benefited guys like Tkachuk and Mangiapane. Looking at your lines I have no idea how the minutes shake out. Almost impossible to roll 4 evenly and reward with special teams. I like the idea of Mantha with Huberdeau; I think you need that big body allowing him some freedom. Pelletier has earned nothing to get played with Kadri. Lombo with Backlund seems odd. I get you are coming up with ideas to try out. If you want Pelletier or Coronato to develop his game, pair one of them with a responsible C. I would have less issue with a 4th line of Lombo-C-Coronato as it would be a line able to get shots on net and would get less top lines playing against them. So, my suggestion doesn't have Pelletier in the top 12: Zary-Kadri-Kuzmenko Huberdeau-Sharky-Mantha Pospisil-Backlund-Coleman Lombo-C-Coronato Considerng the excess LW's we have I would look to Montreal OR AN East team to trade Pelletier to. Assuming we don't have the immediate need on the roster. I can't see anyone in the list above that would be passed by Pelletier. Injury replacement? Sure. Pelletier is more of the BT era and would be fine here if we didn't have excess LW. We need a C to replace Rooney. A high energy 4th line is great, but we need better than Rooney; more likely a younger player to build with.
  9. Read one ranking set (1-120) that had him listed at #4. Catton at 5. It was fun to read post draft. They had all of our good ones listed well below where we picked em. Suggest that our late first should be available late 2nd, but had one our our later picks listed at 1st round. I have it bookmarked on another computer so will post link after. There is always noise that happens after the drafts. The GM hear the fans. Make excuses. Explain direction. They always put a spin on it.
  10. Was he better than Desharnais? That's not a high bar. Comparable to Nurse? Not a high bar. He scored a goal or two and made some good plays. Against one team that was struggling to get inside positioning. Not trashing him, just saying it's a lot of fuss they seem to be making about him. I'm not sure which Vegas player you mean. They have a Russian outside NHL that has arbitration rights. Un;ess he is coming over, they retain his rights. I don't think you OS a player that isn't here.
  11. I could care less about Broburg. He's a guy I think the scouts and team overrates. The only reason to OS him it to PO EDM. They will match. The only player I would want and think they might let go is Holloway. I'm not even sure that is worth the noise. But it's a signal to the GM. Especially after they scooped us on Arvidsson. They say Brown too, but I'm not sure that's a loss. I mix up old OTT players.
  12. Talk is cheap after a pick is made. Oh, we would have taken X. If you are that committed to it, you would have done more to move up a couple of slots. I know they wanted the CBJ pick, but that was going to cost too much. I think secretly, Connie wanted certain players to be gone after Demidov, just so he could justify the picking of a D. The D may be our greatest weakness for a NHL ready version, but we have no true C under 30 (32 more likely). That is an identified lack of depth. The team shifts around the depth in prospects. The LW's are less now, but not that many prospects show a high level yet. The RW are now more plentiful. The D is where we have depth.
  13. So, is Servali reporting thay Roslovik is signing with the Flames or was that a fake tweet. Haven't heard anyone say it. Not even Eklund. Super quiet.
  14. You mean Stecher or Connor Carrick or Brown? I was reading an opinion that the scouts that know Broburg think he is a top 4 in less than 2 years. But the head scratcher is how they plan to make cap room. They haven't even got a full roster and placeholders for Broburg and Holloway. I suppose they could first trade McLeod to get closer. Then they hold off signing Broburg and Holloway until after the season starts and have cleared cap. Then they could trade Ceci and sign Broburg to a cheap deal. Then they could trade Kane (NMC) because so many teams want a guy that is injured and fell off the last two seasons. A bit more goals this year, but he also got dropped down the depth chart. Then they could sign Holloway and use a cheap guy. ( career NHL goals so he should be looking for $2,5M. LOL. I'm not jealous of their FA signings. Like Arvidsson. Skinner might end up a good deal. Henrique is getting old and didn't exactly kill it. Brown and Janmark brought back. Corie Perry as well. How they felt the most important reason for losing the cup was goal scoring. Their top 2 players dried up in the finals. They could only win the games where one or both had points.
  15. Think it was talked about elsewhere (General NHL?), but it's like the worst kept secret. Can't start yet. Haven't name GM yet. He ranks up there with Hollan for riding on coattails. And like every sleazy player EDM signs, they wait until they are cleared of wrongdoing or don't care and say a terminated contract is no biggie.
  16. I suppose the good thing is we can start graduating from the AHL as early as this year. Solo and maybe Poirier. Brz in 25. Morin and Parekh are closer together so maybe both in 25. It's going to be tough, but we may trade from strength.
  17. Too funny. Predatory moves against our nearest ugly cousin. An offer that spans this and next year would put them in a nind. Draisaitl re-signing and Campbell's $2.3. This year dead cap is $3M Bouchard needs a deal and he can go to arbitration if they don't pay him over 7. I mean he will be POd and want to go. I'm not sure Holloway is worth that much but to kill them mentally or cap, off $4x3
  18. there's a couple ways to take it. First, it's obvious that you have existing term so you have the chance to evaluate him before you make any decisions. He does well he will want more money. Does that make sense. He does poorly, his value is lower and you can just flip him or offer him less mid year. Second, leaving him as a pending UFA makes him very tradeable. Only gives you decent value if he has a good year.
  19. Fits their ethics model to a T. I wonder how soon before the WJC players are looked at by EDM. McLeod's brother is a cheap add to a cheap team. They can't afford to pay for talent.
  20. I think Kuzman keeps the vets laughing and loose. Maybe not a guy that raises the team. Also keep the Russian happy.
  21. Any idea about the guy in the AHL? Ignatjew. Played in HockeyAllsvenskan but solid numbers it looks like.
  22. This type of move makes me wonder about the NHL. They said they were sorry.
  23. That's some pretty impressive numbers in the AHL. Scores like Phillips but the size of two Phillips, LOL. I don't think he gets a lot of time in the NHL, but that's a guy that works hard. Didn't give up just playing in the AHL. Went away for a year, but they must have kept tabs on him.
  24. There is come competition for C's. Rossy went to SJS. This is what a team looks like when you sell off major assets in one year, right after we lose two top players. I would say we are more a spoiler than a bottom 5 team. Closer to 10-14, just that's just me, since the league gives you wins you don't expect. Wild cards in nets. Wolfie could steal the show, if the D protects the net better.
