  1. We had Zaddy, but he would only puniush if you came into a zone with your head down or against the boards. He was somewhat uselss clearing out the debris in front of the net. I got so annoyed watching player allowed to skate through the crease, bump the goalie and score as they fell. Somehow, we were the reason they fell. I would prefer for them to run into a brick wall trying to skate into the crease.
  2. The bigger question about the player was why a 3rd time draft eligible player gets selected before Misa? Could he not have been drafted later? Or like a guy not drafted in his 3rd draft, just get signed for freezies? We have drafted a similar type before and it didn't work out. Austin Carrol says hi. It's fair to say that 10 years ago, overagers were a different breed and a gritty player just ran over players as a 20 year old. But still.
  3. That's a pretty high bar, considering what JH did in his 3 seasons at BC. I think it's just the way you worded it, but it's steal in the 5th category is what I think you were getting at.
  4. He's only needing to adjust to the NHL speed and grit. Nothing that AHL games will get him. When you dominate for as long as he did in jr and AHL, there is zero reason to hold him back. He would regress more by doing that. He's gonna lose games, but that as much on the team as anyone else (see CGY 2023/24).
  5. We too often try to pigeon hole players instead of letting their elite skills stand out.
  6. They left out that goalie we signed Ingatijew. Like JJ, I won't try to check spelling on it. I did once. I can barely remember his name a day later.
  7. I don't subscribe to drafting by position, but with all the LW's that we have targeted at BPA, I think we should be looking at the list a little closer. These aren't LW/C, just strictly wingers. I guess the thing about the LW is that we use picks on them a lot, but have not really hit homeruns in awhile. Zary was more of a C. Not sure if Pospicil was, but he was a later pick anyway. One would hope that between Pelletier and Honzek and Coronato that we hit on two that will be top 6 wongers. I don't think it's science. Not in the selection part. I think it's luck that your scouts like a player more than another and that your team develops that player in his sweet spot to be a top player. Some of the best take about 4-6 years before you see anything out of them that resembles a true NHL talent at the top of a lineup. There are exceptions of course, but those are reserved for the 1st overall some years.
  8. I posted that because it helps when we talk about positions. Can't say how accurate it really is. I think they missed our new goalies signed out of Europe.
  9. I was referring to the increased costs to greening, not that it wasn't originally factored in. But honestly, I thought that the original design was modified by the city's new mandates and the end result was an increase in the costs. It seems so long ago that is was walked away from.
  10. Trading Coleman for Askarov (if that's what he was saying) might be fine from a perspective of getting value when it's high, and it wouldn't be a terrible trade as such, but I think Backlund, Kadri and Weegar have their place. It gives us 3 years to get a viable 2C and 3C, plus a 1D. I don't care how bad the rest of the team is for now, but banking on the team developong without them is pretty short sighted. You end up like Arizona, not even as good as Buffalo bad is. Coleman might be better used to get a couple of younger players and or prospects. As risky as Wolf and Vladar are, they are capable of playing behind a team like we have. If it tuens out we have to trade in the future for a goalie, there is lots of examples of why it can work. FLA and Vegas and Colorado didn't draft any of the goalies that got them a cup, so it's not that bad an idea to trade for a goalie if you find out you need one badly. You don't always make the trade while you are starting the rebuild cycle. Not while you have two that fit the bill.
  11. Just saw this and it helps see how the team might have lines set up.
  12. I don't know that I would consider Asky an elite prospect. He lost a lot in translation from the KHL rookie season.
  13. Add to that the first time they got close, they were given a new demand of adding green to it. I think it was a consideration but it was pushed to the top with recent events and people. I don't live there or even near any arena, but I tend to think that downtown is downtown. It's not supposed to be quiet. It's not the burbs. The Stampede makes noise. Outdoor concerts might be a thing, but come on. There are bigger concerns for the NIMBY people. 4 plexes next to single story. Water, sewer and power consumption increasing by multiples of 2.
  14. I think Solo is the biggest risk of getting claimed, no matter when we do it. Schwindt might get claimed but he has such little NHL time that a team would take a big risk in claiming him. Especially at deadline day. He might be attractive to a team of nobodies. They can claim and keep him for some time, then waive him later if they don't use him. It would be a futures claim more than anything. 14th F on a team. It would be annoying to lose him (C/RW), but I don't even know if he is better than Phillips. Solo can stick on the roster as a 7D at worst, but I think he would get 3rd pairing minutes initially and maybe alternate with Pachal. Hanley is more likely to get waived. The one thing I have not considered is that a waiver exempt guy (Poirier or Brz) has such a good camp that it would be unfair to send them down. I would still do it and make adjustments after opening day. I think Pachal had a decent run, but he was not on a stable pairing once he got used to the team. It's possible he gets lapped by another player, even possibly a PTO. We can also hold signing a PTO until after the deadline. Speaking of PTO's, I was looking at some that might get a look. Zadina and Nylander. Nylander because he is younmg and has some skills. Zadina because he showed some promise early.
  15. So, that rag of a blog suggested that we give up two picks plus Kadri at half price for two cap dumps + Robertson's little brother and a 2nd? I spit out my soup when I read it the first time. What idiot would think that benefits the Flames at all? You want to make a trade for Kadri? Fine, give us a 1st for a top 6 C that has won a cup, plus pay for the value he is right the F now. Plus pay for us retaining 50%, Spin it on it's head and we want 1st in 2026 + Knies + Liljegren + Reeves for Kadri at 50%. The 1st plus Knies is just for Kadri. Liljegren plus Reeves (cap dump) is for Kadri at 50% long term. Neither is realistic.
  16. Mayor wants the billions from the Feds for creating a concrete jungle.
  17. Well, we could claim someone, being 9th in the pecking order. But, we also have to consider that we have very few that don't require waivers ourselves. The following regulars require waivers: FORWARDS Hubey Kuzmenko Kadri Sharky Zary Pospisil Coleman Backlund Mantha Lomberg =10 The following require waivers but have been sat or demoted before: FORWARDS Rooney Hunt Duehr Schwindt Pelletier =5 Exempt forwards include: Klapka Coronato The following regulars require waivers: DEFENSE Andersson Weegar Miromano Bean Bahl =5 The following require waivers but have been sat or demoted before: DEFENSE Solovyov Hanley Pachal =3 Exempt defense include: Kuznetsov Grush Jurmo I would waive Hanley, Rooney, Hunt, Duehr, Schwindt at the start, since teams are figuring things out, but I would do Hanley, Rooney, Hunt and Duehr before the final day before the season started. Last day do Schwindt due to his age. That would leave us with 14F and 7D (not including Coronato or Jlapka) until end of camp and near the end of pre-season. We likely have a couple PTO invites that might need to be taken into account, but we only need to reduce the roster if we sign them to a contract. That could wait a few days. The more annoying thing is we can't just go by merit. We have to consider Coronato and Klapka as starting in the AHL. It's not right, but no wiggle room maybe. We don't have much flexibility this year at the start. If we claim anyone on the last day, we would have to be down below 23 before the last day. Crappy teams in front may have more flexible rosters, but I really haven't checked.
  18. That the swear filter replacement word. There's a list.
  19. Askarov is likely available, if you are interested. The D pipeline is fine. Not all scoring D are going to stay with that role. Without even considering this draft, we have some LD that could be NHL'ers sooner than later. Considering the max contract limit, you can't have every D drafted over a short period of time. It makes managing their contracts and playing time difficult. I am more focused on elite C in the next two drafts because that's fits the timeframe for coming out of the rebuild. 3-5 years and one would be fitting into the top spot. I would prefer to get 1 OA this season to take it off the table for MTL. Not that there's a chance that 2 OA wiuld go to them, just avoilding possible bad times. We can win the 26 lotto too, and that would be all we would need. LOL
  20. Drats, foiled again. Oh well, maybe an injury replacement next year, or after the next TDL. There are others ahead so, it's good that he's developing.
  21. Ah, the Oiler junior team. Not to be confused with the team they tried to buy. Douche-bomb is the only thing they see, so Must.Draft.Knights. He reminds me of Nurse. When he gets the PP time and a stable player to partner with and loads of 5v5 time, he scores a ton. His defensive sense is right up there with Nurse. Project him to be another $9M Oiler D that the fans start to complain about in a couple of years. I am interested to watch the Flames this year, and I hope to not complain too much. The D is going to be interesting to watch. How they protect the net. I hope some of the younger players get a chance; we kinda know what Hanley is. Solo needs waivers, so I expect him to be on Day 1 roster. He has some flaws but I see the potential there. Miroman is interesting, though not a kid. Think he passes Ras this year. Bahl is huge, so it would be good to use him with an undersized D
  22. When I saw him play at the WJC, I thought the same. Ubderused 3rd liner that made his line really good. Given the players on that team, I figured he would max out at 2C. Remains to be seen if it's at C, but the sighs and his past experience would suggest that. He seems to attack from the middle with deft hands. I like his game right now.
  23. Bowman traded Panarin for Saad, then traded Saad for beans, then traded for Saad. I read an Oiler blog and they mentioned his connection to Beech in every sentence they talked about Bowman. I don't read many fan opinions, so I wasn't sure how the base felt. The local fanboy media is doing the gymnastics to say he is a great hire and he never actually did anything. That's kind of the point n'est pas? Anyway, he will do like Holland and make a really bad trade and a good trade. Will be remembered for the good ones.
