  1. The way the Flames get back to relevance is goin to have to be the draft and development route. Getting through the rebuild is going to suck. There are going to be lots of ugly and pathetic losses. The biggest issue the Flames have both at the NHL level and in the pipeline is a lack of elite talent. The easiest way to acquire elite talent is via the draft. The even easier way is to pick early in the draft. I think the Flames will do that this year. Anyway, I find myself looking at Ottawa and Montreal. Two young teams, they'll play hard right through game 82. That 6th pick isn't entirely out of the question.
  2. Shot from the point. Kuzmenko and Kessel net front. Kessel has black tape, Kuzmenko white. Puck is high-sticked by the black tape. Kuzmenko shovels in the rebound off the deflection. Immediately waived off with no review.
  3. That’s an inexcusable missed call at the NHL level. you can review a play that was 1/32 inch offside 35 seconds before the puck enters the net, but can’t correct an obvious blunder by the official
  4. I’m not a fan of EP. he was a really good jr player. They thought his skating wasn’t good enough. Swing and a miss
  5. Elite Prospects had Neighbours as a Do Not Draft. Shows what they know.
  6. Everett Silvertips won the WHL lottery. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/701503/landon-dupont His dad is former flame, Micki DuPont. This kid is outstanding. I think the Flames will be struggling in 2027 when he’s eligible.
  7. If the Flames can pick in the top 13, I think they'll be very happy with the player they get. On those consolidated rankings, I would love if Parascak was still on the board in the late 1st. 10-16 range is too early, but the value late in the first is incredible.
  8. I agree. It's probably in the best interest of the player to be drafted elsewhere. Really, the only way I see it happening is if it's something that Tij wants. But in that case, it would depend on where the Flames are picking. If they have a top ten pick, there are other options. Outside the top ten, I think it's worth considering. It's likely nothing, but what was also pointed out to me was that some pretty high ranking members of the Flames hockey ops have been watching a lot of Kelowna. Will be really interesting to see how it plays out.
  9. Would be a good pick. Would be hated almost immediately by the "experts". The same people that thought the Leafs reached on Cowan last year.
  10. I've liked a lot of what Huska has done this year, but it's pretty inexcusable for Huska to be sitting Coronato right now. If Huska wants to coach this team for more than two or three years, he's going to need Coronato to develop. Not gonna happen when he's sitting for Greer and Hunt. I can understand the argument that it may not be beneficial for Coronato to be a bottom six player. Simple fix though, you knock Kuzmenko or Mangiapane down the lineup. Neither will or should be here long term. Give Coronato big minutes on one of Backlund or Sharangovich's line.
  11. Watched their game against the Avs this afternoon. As soon as the Avs made it 4-1, it felt like the Penguins were in trouble They can't hold a lead, same thing that happened on Kipper night. Seattle is also really bad. I don't know if the Flames can finish with a worse record than the Kraken, given how poorly they're playing
  12. I almost viewed him as a throw-in of sorts. Seeing as though he hadn't signed with VAN, I wondered if he was just one of those guys happy with playing his entire career at home.
  13. If the Flames can pick in the top 13, I would feel good about it. Want the top ten though so the lotto at least feels *plausible*
  14. The Flames are going to have a hard time picking ahead of the Penguins. That is a real bad team. They’re in for some Chicago-esque suck.
  15. this trade might have been the biggest homerun that Conroy hit this season. Very much in the defence-first mould of many of the prospects already in the fold. But it’s another lotto ticket. Hopefully one of Kuznetsov/Solovyov/Grushnikov/Jurmo can be an every day guy as a defence first defender.
  16. Sandin-Pellika was on the list for me too, as guys I was higher on. Barlow/ASP/Heidt/Moore/Cristall were some of those guys for me last year. Anyway, hopefully it works out, there's still time. I've watched the Giants quite a bit this year. Honzek and Lipinski are both 2004's. Lipinski isn't as talented as Honzek, so the bar isn't necessarily as high, but Lipinski took a bigger step this year than Honzek. The injury may have been a factor too. I'm also just really impressed with Lipinski, led VAN in points, essentially doubled his faceoff wins this year. He's improved every year, which is exactly what you want.
  17. This is a good draft. Two 30 goal D being available is incredibly rare, they aren't even the best D in this class. Just by looking at central scoutings midterm's, you can get a very good player well into the third round. Anthony Romani- passed over in the draft last year. 109pts this year. Justin Poirier- Jeremie's brother. 50 goal scorer as a 17yr old in the Q. He's going to slide because he's 5'8 Hiroki Gojsic- Plays on Kelowna. RHS C. This was his rookie year, he's gotten better as the season has went on. Plenty of steady D available too. Charlie Elick, Colton Roberts, Alexis Bernier. With five or six picks in the first three rounds, this is an opportunity for the Flames to drastically reshape their prospect pool.
  18. I wasn't high on Honzek at all last year, there were probably six or seven guys I would have taken instead. The guy I would have taken is Colby Barlow, he went to WPG. He scored 40 goals in 50 games this year. Honzek had injuries, but regressed this season. Now to be fair, Barlow can sure score, but his playmaking regressed drastically this year. Too early to say which was the right pick.
  19. Take this with a grain of salt, but I have a buddy that works for a WHL team. He's told me that the Flames have watched a lot of the Kelowna Rockets and the Flames haven't yet been told "no" regarding Tij. I'm by no means saying this will or won't happen, just been told by someone with some insight that it hasn't yet been ruled out. An example would be Ridly Greig. His dad works for Philly and they had an agreement the Flyers wouldn't take his son. That hasn't happened yet.
  20. Speaking of centres though. Jett Luchanko of Guelph. Might be available with the Canucks pick, doubt he’s still there by the 2nd rounder though. 72pts in 66 games, leads the Storm in scoring as a 17yr old Also, the dreaded LHS LW, Marek Vanacker with Brantford. 80pts in 66 games. Leads the Bulldogs in scoring by 17 points. Granted their second leading scorer has missed skme time. For me, I’m big on betting on predicting and betting that production will translate.
  21. I want a D with the first pick. Would prefer a C with the VAN, but I think you can argue skill and grit is almost as valuable as the centre ice position in this day and age. It’s a very hard combination to find
  22. Yegor Surin, the troublemaker of the 2024 NHL draft (toutsurlehockey.com) A player to consider with the VAN 1st. Skill and snarl. 52ts in 42 games, 11pts in 5 playoff games.
  23. Similar player to Coronato, as a prospect.
  24. My preference would be a D with the Flames first pick. Long-term, defensive depth remains a concern. On the NHL roster, Weegar is the only D under contract, for the long-haul. Andersson has some term too, two years left. I believe that at least one of the D will be available when the Flames pick. Right now, I'm thinking it might be one of Yakemchuk, Buium or Parekh. At the moment, Catton is probably the only forward that would dissuade me from a defender. The Flames haven't prioritized that position enough the past decade at the draft table and it's a major reason you're seeing a depleted blueline this season. They started the season with a good blueline, but because of the lack of investment, as we've seen there isn't much in the defensive cupboards. Anxious to see what Poirier can be, but aside from that, the Solovyov/Kuznetsov/Grushnikov's all look like 3rd pair/7th D types.
