  1. The idea would be an extension from NYI. They're not shy about giving term.
  2. I wonder about NYI and Sharangovich. NYI needs scoring and with an 81yr old GM that's not concerned about the future. It's an opportunity to sell high on Sharangovich. I'm not banking on another 30 goals next year. If you can get the 18th pick from NYI, that's a higher pick than you'd get by waiting until the TDL. NYI has shown a willingness to part with picks for immediate help. From a Sharangovich perspective, I think it would be wise to sign this summer. Get the 5 or 6 year deal, coming off the career year. NYI is the perfect spot for that. Zero hesitation from Lou with term. He gave Pierre Engvall a 7yr deal... Ultimately, the Flames have to move at least one winger. Sharangovich is the one they likely want to keep, but also the one they can get the most for. I would hold on to Kuzmenko until TDL. Mangiapane may be a cap dump at this point.
  3. That second period was an absolute circus. They are the better team and deserve to win. I don’t think there was much to choose between the teams in the previous series, big gap this year
  4. What is Edmonton gonna do if they play a team that can kill a penalty? I don’t think you can bank on winning the special teams battle by 15 going forward.
  5. Louie agrees with the call of an Oilers goal on the Rittich save? I’m shocked
  6. Two wins in ten playoff games for Winnipeg in the past two seasons. Sure, tough matchups, but not good enough. They’re pretty committed to that core too. A core that’s been largely underwhelming, aside from 2018. That’s what the Flames could have been if they extended everyone. Think they dodged a bullet.
  7. Montreal, Ottawa, Utah could all take Iginla. New ownership with Ottawa and Utah. Columbus I could see it too. You can say Ottawa needs RHD and that’s true. They need it immediately though. Trade or UFA
  8. With Silayev, I think of Owen Power. Like a condor back there. Big, rangy. Very much still growing into their frame. It’s hard to watch Russian prospects, but he’s had a very impressive year. I think he’s long gone before the Flames are on the clock. The only downside I see with Silayev is he’s in Russia for another two years minimum. The club that drafts him gets no say in his development like they can with a CHL player. Not the end of the world though, if he’s good enough (he is), he will get a bigger role in the K in the next two years.
  9. Dickinson's playing style reminds me of Heiskanen. Really smooth, well-rounded, responsible. There's probably more meat on the bone offensively. But a really complete player. Buium plays a similar game to Hughes. Really creative, dynamic and shifty. He projects to be an offensive catalyst, running a powerplay. It really comes down to preference IMO. I think either would be a good pick for the Flames.
  10. 5/8 series are at 3-1. That's not including the WSH/NY series, which may end tonight. Odd playoffs so far. But it's also why I can't see why any people would support expanding the playoffs. The bubble teams that get in typically aren't very good. Vegas is the lone exception this year. I felt that VAN needed a playoff run to make the trade palatable. The regular season didn't work for Lindholm. Tonight goes a long way in making it feel worthwhile for VAN. I actually wouldn't mind seeing VAN and EDM meet.
  11. What a collapse by Nashville. Bit of a bummer of a 1st round. VGK/DAL and EDM/LA are the only series not at 3-1 (yet).
  12. I think there is a bit of a misconception with player comparisons. Craig Button compares Celebrini to Jonathan Toews. Awfully high expectaions. But to be clear, most scouts aren't comparing 17 and 18yr olds to peak Jonathan Toews. It's a comparison apples to apples, Celebrini to Toews at the same age.
  13. VAN had absolutely nothing until 3 mins in the 3rd. Sissons hitting the post on an empty net might cost the Preds dearly.
  14. Wranglers and Firebirds was an excellent series last year. To refresh; Game 1- 6-3 CV Game 2- 3-2 CGY Game 3- 3-2 CV 3OT Game 4- 1-0 CGY Game 5- 6-5 CV OT Those were two very good teams last year. Coachella Valley ended up losing in game 7 of the Calder Cup. I expect another very good series. The Wranglers weren't as strong this year due to promotions to the Flames. It's a clash of styles. The Wranglers better players are young, the Firebirds are pretty veteran heavy, given the Kraken are still early in their existence. They still have Shane Wright though.
  15. That is fair. Most people seem to have Celebrini and Demidov head and shoulders above the rest of the class. Most years it's lip service, but there is a legitimate chance that the player the Flames take 9th is the same player they would have considered if they were picking 3rd. Anywhere from 3-12 could be interchangeable in this draft. Not many drafts are like that. Often times you can pencil in the top 4 or 5 picks a month or so before the draft.
  16. For sure. Bigger picture though, I think a team will look at the production and bloodlines and pick him before CGY picks. I'm thinking Montreal or Ottawa. You've got Staios in OTT and St. Louis with MTL, both guys know Jarome. Anyway I hope it happens. I hope he's gone before the Flames pick. It's a gong show if not.
  17. 960 had the Duclair conversation for about the 30th time this past week week. I found it funny because the day before they asked "do the Flames have too many wingers"? Yes. Then the following day they talk about adding a winger. It's obviously due to Huberdeau. He needs to be better, I really don't believe Duclair is the one to get him going again. Nothing against Duclair, he's a good player that you can count on for 40pts a year. The Flames have a bunch of players just like that though. I think the Flames need to have Pelletier and Coronato as full time NHLers. Pelletier becomes waiver eligible soon. You either give him a spot or you include him in a package for a D this summer IMO. Huberdeau/Sharangovich/Mangiapane/Coleman/Pospisil/Coronato/Pelletier/Kuzmenko. That's 8 right there, Hunt and Duehr figure to be in the mix as well. I just don't really see where Duclair fits. I'm not sure that retaining on Mangiapane just to make a spot for Duclair makes a ton of sense. I think the production would be the same.
  18. Tij has helped his draft stock. I don’t think he will be there at 9. Likely best case scenario for the Flames That’s kinda crazy. It’s widely believed Demidov goes 2nd or 3rd. Comparisons to Kucherov and Kaprizov.
  19. Amazing how the Bruins continue to own the Leafs. No more Bergeron or Chara and they still can’t win. Regarding the Tampa and NYI wins. Obviously it’s almost impossible to come back from 3-0. But both clubs got one today. If they can win game 5, it absolutely changes the dynamic of the series. All of a sudden a game 6 feels like a must win for Carolina/Florida. When LA did it against SJ in 2014, Doughtu claimed that he could see the fear in the Sharks eyes when the series got to 3-2…
  20. Haven't got to see ton of the u18 yet. Haven't minded Adam Jecho though. The VAN pick might be a tough early for me, but could be worth a look at 41. Liked Charlie Elick as well. Good skater, big. RHS. He's someone that I think will see a pretty big jump in production next year.
  21. It's really early, but the 2025 class looks really good
  22. I don’t think that counting stats will hold Silayev back at all, in terms of draft stock. He could go as early as 2nd IMO. Last year Simashev went 6th. Had 0pts in 18 KHL games. 10pts in 29 MHL games
  23. There gonna be three sweeps in round one?
  24. RIP Mr. Cole. One of the best to ever do it.
