  1. Mac would say that is just how it is, vets get the benefit of the doubt, while rookies and youth pay for the mistakes. I guess it’s okay because a vet like Brouwer follows the system to a “T” and his ice time ya a reward for it. I think development can can almost be the chicken or the egg scenario, because, like in our discussion, is it the development system, or is it drafting/scouts? Both? Or the player’s drive? i am totally with you, why play an offensive guy with slugs on the 4th line? Why not try them in a position they might have a better chance if success? Apparently with this coach, you still need to earn your way up the totem pole.
  2. Therefore, other organizations are just better at eying talent than ours is. I didn't think those guys were ever nearly ready. Baertschi and most recently Jankowski are proof that those few game can make you look better. I gather what you’re saying is they just have to come with that energy every game. I think its its playing with a level of energy that may not be sustainable, and, other teams get to know a player and understand better how to shut them down.
  3. Well, I think how we develop our players still needs to be questioned. Drafting has gotten better a bit over the years, but has it gotten a lot better? Is development the result of drafting? Or could a team have developed a Poirier, a Klimchuk or other players into NHL players, whereas our system does pump out a player here and there, but is it enough to sustain a good playoff team? players like Dube and Valamaki will create some competition there, and hopefully higher expectations.
  4. I don’t see a great farm, I don’t see prospects really ready to come in a add to this team, at least for another 3-4 seasons. So I agree with you. Maybe I see it worse? There is only Andersson from the farm who can come in. There aren’t any high end prospects chomping at the bit. Dube could need a year or two in the A. any of the other prospects to make the jump won’t be making us contenders. Maybe they put us in a playoff spot next year. But as they improve, so does all of the other teams in the West. The problem with this season is, we don’t have any prospects to add to the depth like the jets had after their bad seasons.
  5. This team wasn’t a playoff team before March. We haven’t really been a playoff team since the 7 game winning streak. And we were mostly healthy until recently. We’ve had a bad season and saying without March we are a good enough team is sugarcoating it. We had one really good stretch and one more ok stretch and the rest was subpar. That doesn’t cut it, and is not playoff caliber. Cant blame injuries. Look at other teams who’ve had it worse for most of the season, and yet we failed to distance ourselves when we were actually really healthy.
  6. Then you don’t make the deal. Continue to be schrewed in negotiations. He failed plain and simple. Fine, he safeguarded in another deal, but didn’t with the most our most important pick in this draft. It is why it is a bad move.
  7. He kind of reminds me of Hamilton in his first year. First time with a new team, first time with a new nhl coach. Hamonic has only had one other nhl coach. New city. New players he has to get used to after playing for years with the same guys the whole time.
  8. Youre totally right! Brodie can be a pretty good trade piece. Andersson comes in and could be a good transition from Hamonic in the long run. Then we have Valamaki as well. Could we trade Brodie at the draft & possibly gain a 1st? Or do we need to trade an Offensive D for someone a little more stable back there (to make a sideways deal)?
  9. There was just a very interesting segment with Eric Francis on the Fan. They were talking about Hamonic’s time with the Flames. Hamonic is saying it’s his best year in his career. Do they went into Hamonic and Brodie as pair. In covering for Brodie, Hamonic gets blame for most of the gaffs. Hamonic told Francis that he goes over his game tape and he is quite happy with his own play.
  10. Well, that depends on whether Dube is NHL ready. Our depth is a problem and yet we can’t find spots for some of the youth now.
  11. Even Engelland is playing better than our bottom 3-6D. The only D guys playing better are Hamilton and Giordano. The thing that I am really mad at isnt the pick we gave up for Hamonic, but the fact it was not lottery protected. the amount of picks given up the past few years is appalling and we will see the effects of it in about 4-5 years.

I am done with trading picks for a goalie, even if it is a 4th. We’ve spent way too much on goalies without it solidifying much of anything the past few years and frankly, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I am getting tired of BT and GG. We are back to where we were when the rebuild started, only the players are younger...
  13. I don’t think they should waiver on going and not going and picking and choosing which ones to attend just looks a bit princess to me. If you’re going, commit to all or none.
  14. Personally, I think the Flames botched a deal by waiting too long and should’ve done so when the economy was at its peak. I probably asked this before, but, how much would an arena gain the city in employment while it is being built? Jobs are good. There’ll be jobs again after, just not as many. But apparently, with a high class building the best shows will come?
  15. With all of the medical M going around, it wouldn’t be that bad of an idea.
  16. Ya, it really sucks. it is too bad they didn’t get the arena done when times were better. Nenshi hi is in the bad as well? I mean, going for an olympics that the city might not really afford. Vancouver brought in people, but it could’ve spiked foreign buyers even though it was already on the rise at that time... what other industry can Calgary get behind? Oil is a tough one...
  17. All I am saying is you pay a percentage of your income to taxes, and he should do the same as anyone who is just a regular person with low-medium income. But the little guy is stuck paying a higher proportion of their income and can’t really get out of it like he is doing.
  18. Murray Edwards now lives in London because he feels like he shouldn’t have to pay taxes the same as you or the next Canadian. the money he’s probably saving in taxes is probably the same as he needs the city to pay for an arena. Rich bs.

Sometimes the fact the play in the NHL is crisper than the AHL or lower leagues help certain players, and probably goalies. In beer league i suck! But when I play on a team with good structure and fundamentals, I am so much better.

I heard. on the fan, that the D in ECHL isn’t very good so numbers there are not telling. Numbers are usually inflated. So Parsons will probably see more shots there.
  21. It still doesn’t make sense. How many can fit into one arena? The rest of China will still have to watch on tv.
  22. I was referring to the first five min or so in the game. Meaning, Smith saves our butts, allow us a chance and then the rest was history. It was a great game in the end.
  23. Like in this game, Smith saves our checking from behind and it can easily have been 3-0 caps
  24. But Cross keeps quoting stats that say otherwise. I don’t watch every game, but I listen when I can... it doesn’t always sound and look possession-y.
