  1. Playoff experience gets way too much airplay. I'd argue that it doesn't matter. Playing a lot more games, yeah, I get it.. Motivation is a non-issue.
  2. It's hard to say mentor. His NHL experience is limited. Although he's been at the pro level for 5 years between the SEL and the K. I hope this pick up works for both sides. Hopefully we're a better fit for him than LA was. It happens. Again, this add at trade deadline looks like he was definitely a target. Gives me a lot of faith in the homework from the org. Say what you want about Burke, but he had an exit strategy and left us with a team builder. No apologies needed, he got us the GM we needed. Nice to watch BT growing into full autonomy and putting his stamp on this team.
  3. But then we'd have to hear, "Datsyukian" a lot more often. lol But to be fair, in the playoffs, this one can be hard to describe...
  4. Maybe Datsyuk wants a chance to play with Johnny.lol
  5. Excellent point cross. We no longer look like a team that has roster spots to offer, which is a beautiful thing. These "high profile" college free agents are typically so overrated that they seldom become solid answers. But they are in the enviable position of having teams play off of each other. Spencer Foo anyone? Philp is a good zero risk move sans hype.
  6. I agree. Fantenberg has been a really good add as a stay at home D man. Excellent research by the Flames in bringing him in. He's very steady in our zone. Considering we typically see adjustment periods with players on new teams, he seems to have just slid right in. Our D depth is unreal. I wonder if we use someone at the draft table in a trade?
  7. Did Fanta play much PK in LA?
  8. That is, I'd like to say "incredibly" poor taste, buy I don't think that cuts it. So it's wasn't McLennan's fault, it wasn't Chiarelli's fault, it's Toby Reider's fault. This is a new low(e) even for the Oilers. You completely humiliate the player? Wow.
  9. ? Why? We had pick 14 and traded down for Jankowski and wasisname. All of the "experts" would have said, ooh they went off the board bumping Vasilevsky up 9 spots. We went off the board for Jankowski. But we went and got Ramo. I get the hindsight bullSatoshi Nakamoto, but let's call this what it was. A mistake. Our GM was like a used car salesman.
  10. Yeah I know. I often wonder how scouts list attiributes for goalies. For me, it would be: 1. Do you know where you are in relation to the net? I'd use Luongo as an example of a guy that gets lost when he leaves the crease. 2. Lateral movement. Quite simply, leg strength, push left, right, forward. 3. Vision. Can you track a puck? Whether you see it or not, can you get up on it? 4. Athleticism. Which is reactionary. For the 1st 3, imo goalies have to have that, early. When you reach pro age, these should not be things to work on, that's automatic in the bag of tricks stuff. Working on increasing speed and reaction time, puck-handling, I get that. Rittich is my example of that. He came from excellent development imho. With Smith, 1 through 3 are suspicious imho. And those are the 3 things a goalie should be able to control, he seems to rely on 4. That's not good enough. And my least favourite part, is that he's forever looking to keep the puck in play, juicy rebounds and scrambles.
  11. Let me say this as nicely as possible. 1 in 3 of the teams developed their own starter. Cubicon was just pointing out it's not "rare". He's right. Why is this a pissing match? Excellent conversation between you 2, so thanx both. Don't let it disintegrate into semantics. I honestly don't care, you're having an excellent conversation and you're both obviously educated hockey guys.
  12. What's amusing is trying to find a common thread in the goalies you've listed as the 3rd of teams that developed their own Some you just expect will be elite NHLers, Price, Vasilevsky, Gibson as top 50 picks. Quick a top 75 pick. Holtby a top 100. Then it disintegrates. Helly 5th rd, Rinne I think was the 2nd or 3rd last pick in his draft class. 258th oa, wow, nice pick. Murray, undrafted. It never ceases to amaze me, in this day and age, the old adage is still thrown around like candy: Goalies are Voodoo. I might be one of the few that doesn't agree. It's no different than players, you base it and grade it on a package of skills. Streaming Stockton games watching Gillies and Rittich, it was clear to me Rittich is far more developed. Just like our scout Derek MacKinnon saw in Europe. He went to watch Pribyl and got addicted to Rittich. Price, Vasilevsky, in their draft years. It was undeniable these are exceptional goalies. And they are exceptional goalies. I recall a thread on this board about "which rookie this year will have the best career". I went with Rinne, who wasn't even a poll choice. So again, why is this voodoo? Little-known players surprise people all of the time, It's a "good story". Tim Thomas does it, it's "voodoo". What is voodoo, is scouting imho.
  13. Yeah at TDL I was interested, but the closer it got the more it became apparent that he didn't want to be moved. This is a good deal for Detroit. And Howard will just play out his career in the big D. The fans adore him. Such a classy org with a long list of players that stay with one org for their entire careers. The return of Datsyuk rumours persist.
  14. I just love taking the opportunity to quote myself. (sic) But Carty (His Dudeness) gave it away in the GDT with his damn goal lights that everyone has stolen IRregardless, lol. So 420 was all in. I've never met him, nor has Carty, whom I've met once last year and we stay in touch. 420, correct me if I'm wrong, but you literally told me, "Thanks for the invite, I didn't even know that I meant anything to anyone on the board". Now you know buddy. I'm glad we let you know. I was looking at the board at Carty's place on my phone and was reading Ward's post when I had to close. I told Carty afterwards I can't read that thread around people because I well up. He said, "good to know I'm not the only one". Meeting people is fantastic. 420, you are completely right. The how you didn't realize you were recognizable here is disturbing. lol That hasn't been the case for years. Cheers FF52. We shall create a movement of friends that don't have to hide behind keyboards, for any reason. Disarmed by smiles and good nature.
  15. Here's a laugh, 420 knows this because I told him this story while we were driving to Carty's most hospitable home. On NHL Radio, proceeding NJ hanging 6 on the hapless Oilers after us hanging 9 on NJ on the front end of the B2B. It was Koulias and...can't remember... I paraphrase, but it was a 10 minute laugh-fest: "So how about 97's comments after the Devil's beat the Oilers? "We overlooked them". You overlooked them? You're the Edmonton Oilers, teams overlook you. I can see the Lightning having an off night against a bad team. They can say they overlooked them. You're the Edmonton Oilers, there isn't a team in the league that YOU can overlook. What do you mean you overlooked the Devils? You are the Devils". If anyone else caught that segment, feel free to chime in. I laughed my Hash Rate off. Especially the tone they carried, equal measure disdain and chuckling at McDavid's comment.
  16. That's awesome. Like I said, my account is screwed. It doesn't work for me, just pure frustration. Thanks for letting me know, because that will not work for me. I know I found the root of the problem, but can't resolve the problem. Huge respect buddy, and don't worry, when the Bruins stomp the Leafs again, TDot will have no option but to cover the Flames in rd 2. I live in ON. but travel in AB a lot and lived in Calgary for 18 yrs. My Leaf-loving friends and relatives have fully woken up to the Flames. Christmas was awesome for a change.lol
  17. This is from a thread called "Burn It Down". The first quote is the OP, clipped to spare everyone the fluffy rant reasoning. And the second quote is why I loved this guy. Balanced and educating. Then his last line is the clean-up hitter clearing the bases. lol Man he was great at staying balanced and reasoning. 2 weeks into last season and a thread about rebuilding again. I do stupid stuff like, "fluffy rant reasoning". FF's posts are like training, study material.
  18. I remember harassing FF (jokingly) about where my all time favourite goalie was, Bernie Parent, in his sig. He told me that a compatriot on the Flyers board built the sig and that's it. His all-time favourite line. Maybe yearly I'd let him know his sig reminds me of my idol, Bernie Parent, just for laughs. Now every time I hear Holmgren's name I think of the times he pissed off FF.
  19. You're in the wrong thread. We are paying homage to FF52.
  20. Don't thank me yet, you've got my original one, lol. If you wanna give it a try (wouldn't work on mine), Right click Carty's, "Copy". Paste it in My Pictures on your hard drive. Go into where you pasted it. Open it, right click "Copy". Go into account settings, my sig, same as before and right click paste. My account is screwed for for sure. That route might work better for you. At any rate, just asking was enough. Thanks buddy. Just nice to see how much he meant 'round here. Peeps, jj....post how you did it, we're hockey grunts. lol
  21. That's awesome Pal. Unfortunately, you're asking the guy that fights with everything computerese and my account is, well, Blockchained as per the above post. Try this should work. Right click and select, "Copy Image Location". Go to your username pulldown at the top right. Select Account Settings. As you scroll down, on the left you'll see "My sig" or similar, Left click that. It'll give you a new page where you'll see where to insert the sig. Right click and paste. Scroll down and "save". You'll get a message that your sig has changed. Now go back to one of your posts and see it's there. Because honestly I'm not positive it will work, it should. If that doesn't work, post it here, don't fight it. Then we KNOW for sure The People will describe it in full as I see he has done it. And not in a PM Peeps please. I'm sure many others have the same question as lou. If my advice worked lou, just say, It worked! Warning: This won't work on Carty's, ours are set up different. Go figure. It was my idea. Carty built. I screwed it all up. lol Warning #2. Never ask other posters to make a sig for you. This was a special case. Figure out how to make hero stamps on Google. It can take hours, don't ask others. I asked Carty as a memorial, and thankfully he agreed. I would never ask for any other reason.
  22. nvrmnd, I can't copy and paste a 30 kB image on this board, and no one can tell me why. No more images for me. Yet most others can throw endless memes and images up. Funny that know one seems to know how to solve that, hey, DHT? Pyro, you're my last hope!
  23. Well yesterday was amazing. Although we lost a hard, contested battle to the Jets, at the end of the game I physically shared a cheers to ff52 aka Larry with 2 other posters. Amazing how common interest strangers become new found friends! Now I can breath a bit easier that FlyerFan is a legacy, not only as a poster, but as a person. Sorrow from us all from the one (you know who you are!) that couldn't make the trip for a legitimate reason and our thoughts are with you too. Special thanks to the gracious host and hostess. I made it back in record time, lol. That was a special day for me. Thanks guys and gal, I hope it meant as much to you as it did to me. *insert joke* And we didn't get all out of it and break stuff, lol. Hi to Opie!!
