  1. He's had a lot already. Why not? He can recuperate right off of the roster if he likes. Wish he'd done it before TDL though, as I've been saying...
  2. No. Smith. You don't don't get hurt on those plays. Like last year. How tf do you get hurt on that? Better not be now, that's lame.
  3. Yup. That's camp invite material. Has he partaken in camps with other teams?
  4. I haven't been one to rag on MacDonald over Demko myself. Goalies can take awhile. MacDonald's a really great kid with a great work ethic. Doesn't guarantee success but it does guarantee that he'll put in the work. I think that's all you can ask. If you look at good fwd prospects, that can be a 5 yr investment before NHL time. At that, some succeed where others fail. Goal is much the same, but the window is likely closer to 7 yrs. MacDonald is still just 22. A lot of MacDonald, imo, is to not be intimidated, he's a mellow guy. I think a big component to Rittich this year is that he wants to be involved in skirmishes and no one will intimidate him. That's a big part of the position imo. Don't let guys intimidate you, be it Kucherov or Quine. Biggest hurdle for goalies with talent imho.
  5. The conceptual design looks like a big greenhouse on a flood plain. This whole build it on/near the Stampede grounds looks incredibly short-sighted to me. Does the $600 mil include future cleanups? Get off of the flood plain, for god sakes.
  6. We got Rittich that way. Completely by accident while scouting a player. So someone in the org knows the signs. I hear all of the time, "goalie is voodoo". Nope it's not. If it confuses, get more resources on it.
  7. But the point is, we took a long term project and a dman I saw nothing in when he was with the Spits. Taking a goalie in the 1st is not a bad thing if you consider just how good Vasilevsky was in his draft year. He was something special. My own line of thinking is Vasilevsky was around a 24 ranking because: a.) he's a goalie b.) he's Russian So he gets pushed down rankings. They could only push him down to 24 oa. He should have been top 15 in reality. Yzerman was scouting a lot differently imho. A lot more honestly. With a clear plan for the scouts.
  8. I disagree. I'm not with you at all. I believe Vasilevsky was ranked 24th by a lot of the "systems". At the time I was high on him and wouldn't have had a problem at all making that jump. When we needed help, we took a 5 year science project and a dman I have no idea what our scouts saw. Vasilevsky in his draft yr played out of his mind. He was ranked 24th. You'd have been pissed? Go back and look at that goalie list. He's still the #1 goalie from that draft that produced many good ones. Everything in his draft year said this guy is some goalie. So what? But he's Russian? BPA, unless he's Russian. lol
  9. Rittich was a good find. But it would appear that scouting goalies isn't our strong suit. Further to this, there's no salary cap on the front end. just sayin'
  10. There prolly isn't actually. Just hire a good accountant and lawyer. This is what we get for being Canadian. lol
  11. It was an incredibly goalie-rich draft. Vasilevsky Murray Hellebuyk Frederik Anderson Korpisalo Ullmark Mazanec We took Gillies in the 3rd rd.
  12. Flames had the 14, traded down with Buffalo to get a 2nd rd pick they wasted anyway. With the 2 picks: Jankowski Patrick Sieloff
  13. I agree. It'll be quite a test tonight. I've been wanting Smith to get back on form. I'm starting to realize though, his form was always relying on athleticism vs mechanics. For me, that's the scary part. If we were to bring in Howard, I agree again. It would become relentlessly starting Howard, because he's a guy that isn't going to let go of the reigns. That could be a nice lesson to Rittich too, though. At the end of the day, Howard's better than Smith in near every category but size. Like you say, this isn't an easy decision. And like I said earlier, my biggest fear is Smith looking good until the deadline passes. That would hurt a lot. I'd imagine the NYIs are looking hard at Bobo and Howard also. If Howard gets moved, I just don't want it to be a playoff team in the west. If I were the GM in SJ, I'd be all over it. They win in spite of Jones, not because of him. St Loo? No thanks. If he heads West, I would really prefer it to be to us. Pretty sure that would put our conference on high alert that Howard is now Calgary's goalie.
  14. with the 14th pick of the 2012 draft, the Calgary Flames select Andrei Vasilevsky. lol
  15. That's true, we do need a sink or swim on Smith rn.
  16. I think it is like that. If they tweaked anything, they got him to play the puck more, so they should untweak the tweak. Rittich's mechanics are sound. Smith's mechanics need tweaking. His angles are showing he isn't tracking the puck well. He gives up a full foot of his crease that he can't be doing. He's gotta come out and challenge. I see point shots where he's only halfway up the crease. That's just bad mechanics imho. Own the whole crease Smitty, it's yours.
  17. By more upside do you mean won't retire after this year? lol I really wanted to get both goalies going. This handing Smith the keys is annoying. If not for Rittich we'd be with the rest of the lousy West wildcard race. I never thought in a million yrs we would just jump right in bed with Smith again. But it's sure looking that way.
  18. Yeah this makes me nervous. Maybe we're showcasing him for a trade.lol
  19. Should be safe to assume Rittich gets the NYI. If not, I'd be alarmed. And likely come up with stupid stuff, like "we must be showcasing him" lol
  20. To be brutally honest if Howard were available at a reasonable price like a 3rd I'd have to do it. Smith just isn't tracking the puck well. His angle looks off, he's not coming out far enough to challenge. just imo. His mechanics just look off to me. I'm getting nervous. edit Howard (my take): I haven't had a D like this since Lidstrom retired. lol
  21. cough cough What? Ward?? Why do you hate us? Howard Smith Ward imo fricking Rebels fans, lol.
  22. The latter for me. Hathaway's been playing with a ton of discipline imho. So even though he isn't always where you want him to be, he's playing a safe game. Ryan the creator, he's been good at turning nothing into danger. Mangia with a couple of goals and really good speed. Wow. His move of being covered, putting the puck to open ice and basically passing it to himself is awesome. Creating confusion. That line is fun to watch.
  23. I want to hear how Francis' mom feels about it.
  24. Lol. That is funny. All should be scoring more and it's their linemates faults. That's classic peeps. If just 1 of them could DRIVE a line the other 2 would be fine. True dat.
