  1. This is what I struggle with. Major coincidence that it was when Boston came to Calgary? That's a very major coincidence. Here's my incredibly false narrative, but opinion. Burke meets with both, gets the straight goods. Sleeps on it. Fires Feaster with, "this isn't how you do business in this league"..
  2. Where do you live, that the sun never shines? lol Changing that draft to us having Vasilevsky and not having Jankowski could have changed more things. Again, it's not a vacuum here we trade out Rittich for Vasilevsky. We wouldn't have needed the 2nd for Elliott or signing Smith. We could have gotten better with having stable G. Not spending those assets to try and fail to get stable G.
  3. If I were a betting man, I'd say Burke would have fired him outright, but waited for Boston to visit and beg that we are a dignified org with more scruples than that. It's a great move, because all of the other GMs were plugging their noses about how unprofessional that was. Maybe King hired Burke just to fix our rep. But I'm surmising.
  4. I think this gets underplayed. Feaster trades Iggy to Boston. It's announced as official. Iggy wouldn't waive, gets traded to Pittsburgh instead. Chiarelli looks like an idiot. We hire Burke as PoHO the following year. Boston's first visit to Calgary, Burke fires Feaster the next day. I highly doubt that this was coincidental. Feaster made Chiarelli look like an idiot. Burke knows decorum amongst GMs. I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall when Burke told him why.
  5. But you can't look at it in a vacuum. Elliot could have been a good goalie for us. What options did we have at the time? We had no goalie. With the trade for our 2nd the Blues took Kyrou. So they didn't take Hart either and really lucked out last year with Berube knowing Binnington. Easy to say Hart now looks like a future top shelf goalie, but not so easy at the time. Hindsight is 20-20. The biggest for me was Vasilevsky. He was ranked 23rd oa and we had 14th pick. Being Russian, he gets downgraded although he crushed his draft year. Kipprusoff was going to need a plan. We sucked at C and these 2 jokers take a 5 yr plan at C and a lousy Dman whom I'd seen enough of. By trading down from 14 to recoup a 2nd. So Yzerman says thanks, because he knows what he's doing. But Feaster and bonehead were arrogant. I doubt that they even considered Vasilevsky, because Ramo was so awesome. Nothing stings harder than a mgmt group thinking they're smarter than everyone else. It never works, and you become the joke amongst GMs.
  6. Nah, you're a teddy bear. lol Disagreeable isn't difficult, just requires a few more grains of salt. Especially talking about goaltending. 🤣
  7. How did all of the drafted goalies turn out again? It's a crapshoot. Who are you blaming this on? And why are you mad at Rittich again?
  8. From having been a goalie myself, I'm intrigued by the Tkachuk-Rittich bond. I've needed that. Have a crap night, "don't worry about it, I'll get it back". Then when he does, well, time to start playing. My core on this team is those two. They look like they challenge each other.
  9. So let's remove Rittich from the equation. Where is our goaltending now? The "why are we scouting him" argument falls a little flat, when you consider that he's one of the top 30 goalies on the planet now. If you want to argue that, well...you better come armed.
  10. We traded down for Jankowski and a throwaway 2nd. Should have taken Vasilevsky. That was a huge mistake by Feaster. Right when Kiprusoff was going away. So dumb. We've struggled ever since, forever in "hold the spot" mode waiting for Gillies led to nothing but turmoil. Rittich has been like finding money. We spent assets on meh. He cost us nothing. You should be happy, lol. Made the best of a really bad situation.
  11. Watching the highlights from Smith last night. He made some nice stops, but zero rebound control. Easily why he lost out to Rittich, the better man won.
  12. Personally, off the record, lol. I think Rittich's a workhorse. That's a terrific find. Undoubtedly a top 31 goalie in the world, with more to prove. So what are you babbling on about? He's been exceptional. You're being silly.
  13. Why is this Rittich vs Binnington again?
  14. You can't really do that by being wrong. lol Rittich was only 24 when they found him. Plus, he may be 20th ranked, but he's also on, can't argue, what has been a very bad team.
  15. Pribyl was worth his weight in gold for getting us Rittich. lol One chance encounter for Rittich or no one ever heard of him. Very cool story The kinda guy we like cheering for. Full on underdog. Talented and colourful. He's been on the ride of his life, and he isn't out of place. Not to mention our best effort award near every start. Just get him into the playoffs healthy, scorers.
  16. Yup. Wish I could find the story about how we stumbled upon him. Whoever that scout was should stick to scouting goalies. lol
  17. Boy oh boy, we're workhorsing Rittich due to the team's poor performances. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. One thing for sure, we need him healthy.
  18. And be audited. If you're working under LeBrun, that's a helluva promotion and an umbrella. imo.
  19. I love that Haynes is with the Athletic now. Great umbrella for him regarding responsible journalism.
  20. Now that teams are seeing how solid Rittich, is they try harder to throw him off. It's up to the dmen to cut that crap out. I remember Kipper getting cannon-balled constantly until we got JBo to show everyone how to protect your goalie. Fans say what they will of JBo's time here. The thing that stood out for me the most was finally having a dman that knew how to protect his goalie. Get in lanes, read what opponent's are doing, get in the way. I thought JBo was great at that. Kipper got run way less once JBo could teach our D how to do it, because it was getting ugly prior to him.
  21. Kind of my argument, go hit, pucks will come to you or your linemates. More hitting, less thinking. Play the way you want to play. Coaching be damned. Let's see intensity. Not benched for every time that you give it a shot and it goes south.
  22. Bennett needs to engage imho. His best hockey is when he flies around hitting everything that moves. Take a penalty? Fine, get back out there and hit everything that moves. When he plays with that kind of intensity, the rest of his game tends to come around without overthinking everything, which he is prone to do when lulled to sleep. I feel like, "hey we're down 2-0 because of Bennett's penalties, he's getting demoted" is the wrong play. He's at his best playing a high passion game which few others on this team bring, just let him play that way. Stop putting the reins on him. Let your horses run without such an overwhelmingly hairy eyeball. Let him play the way he needs to be his best. Bennett playing that style is the guy I wanna see. That Bennett, at the very least, creates space for everyone. The only down on Bennett I can think of, if you let him play the way he needs to, is he has to change his shot release. You aren't zipping a 60km wrister from behind your waist past an NHL goalie. Watch Tkachuk. He pulls it towards his skates more often than not before releasing. Bennett has to learn that, not, "shooting from my other leg", as he claimed he worked on in the summer. Change the trajectory. Every goalie will tell you that's the hardest thing to deal with. Been saying this about Bennett for awhile now. You don't need the perfect shot, you need to fool the goalie.
  23. Just missed the 1 year anniversary by 2 days.💔
  24. Would hate to see him have a good game vs NJ. Shut you whiny things up.
